How fast can a "slow" car go?

67mph is Onedarkhorse's Daimler-Benz Motor Carriage speed record... smokin'! Apparently he even saw a puff of smoke from the wheels while drifting it (freewheeling down hill of course)! And you can tune it up by 0.2 KW in arcade mode! I find it very awesome that 67mph is faster than the highway speed limit in many countries today. Imagine getting booked for speeding in this weapon of a billy cart.:)

-----------------5th: 0.630
-----------------6th: 0.525
-----------------7th: --
---------------Final: 4.124

---------------Auto: Should be exaclty/almost exactly the same with Autoset 21

Driving Aids:

LSD: (All Settings for Rear)

-------------Initial: 10

-------------Decel: 20

Weight Balance:

-----------Ballast: 0

-----F/R Balance: 0

Edit: Just managed a 0-400m time of 12.106 sec with a bit more tinkering

0-60 in 5.6 sec with very short gears but no NOS (bit disappointing really, lol, probably due to the turbo lag. But still pretty quick for an aging bluebird)

0-60 in 4.660 sec with NOS. I think this is pretty impressive - NOS eliminates that turbo lag, and gives it accelaration that can blow a Vanquish away...until it reaches 90mph...at which point there's no more go left, *sigh, if only*

Those settings work great, a stock Cobra cant even compete with the mighty Bluebird...lol. Deimos, ever get around to having a go with the Mazda Carol?

Hmm...I don't know, school interferes quite a bit, lol. I started on the Bluebird a bit ago on a whim, but if I find a new love in the used car lot I'll make sure you hear about it 👍

Deimos

EDIT: Oh what the hell!? Honda Today, here I come! (Just spotted her in the used car lot - she's a beaut (ahem) :yuck:

not particularly, slow, but i was able to get the 1973 2002turbo to hit 217mph with just 341hp. Tried the Beetle 1100 standard, got it up to 147.7mph.. could probably get it to barely squeak out 150 .. i'll try later. With top speed tuning, the beetle flies to 60mph at just under 21 seconds! amazing! 195 on the 79 skyline hardtop. so close!

Just forced 162mph out of that Honda Today. Sat behind an FTO all the way around the test course to do it though - Turbo lags like a *****! Anyhoo, I might swap it for an NA Tune later on, and see how she goes then

Deimos

(Ooh, that 'Turbo lag' may have been a mistake on my part - forgetting to turn off the driving aids - I'll have to do everything again now, lol!

Thats too funny Deimos, I never thought about doing the Today although I saw it a while back. I did try the Peugeot 106 though, in stock form it did 123.74 MPH and with the mods it managed 196.70, I think I can get that baby to crack 200 with a little more tweaking.

Alright, well good luck with that 106 - if you can't make it - draft! Anyhow, I must strongly advise you against the Today - Horrible little vehicle, even if it does handle exceptionally well for an FF, even if it is on Qualifying tyres. 72bhp and it can only just beat an FTO on two laps around Tsukuba?! I was disappointed!

(It goes right down to 500kg!!!!!!!)

Just bought a nice Mazda 110, so we will see how that can be made to go with its rotary...
The obsession so far in this trhread seems to be :
What old / slow cars can be forced to travel at 200mph?

Good thread, :)

I've been collecting old cars in the game with no real idea of what to do with them apart from put alloys on them and see what they look like lowered :dopey:
raced a stock '69 Bluebird 1600 and was quite impressed with the handling so I might give that some 'treatment'.
Mazda carol has to be done also, once I get the hang of tweaking the 'bird - ooer!

I tuned my Ginetta G4 to get a 10.5s 1/4 mile (w/ NOS). I also took it and raced the El Capitan British GT Championship Event. Came away with a 1st place trophy against a Lotus, a DB9, and a Tuscan Speed Six. I fully admit to using poor racing practice however - I was half-way through the 2nd lap and I full-speed rammed the lotus in order to brake around a turn, and he got tossed into the dust. After that, he stayed roughly 1 sec. behind me until the finish, when he was just 0.5s. Man that felt great!

One of the best threads in long time. Grrrreat.

I've bought all kinds of cool (read: old 'n slow) rides along the way. Now was time to see what they can do. I took my red Toyota Sport 800 and started modding. Goal was set to 300 km/h top speed.

Did all the upgrades (TOM's items, of course :) ). Went to test course, tweaked and tested for couple of hours (too much time, yess sir!) and all I could came up with was 290. What a dissapointment. Still pretty good for a car with 122 hp...

I'm sure it could slipstream to 300, though.

I think you can DEFINATLY hit the 300 mark HID45, good luck with it and let us know. 👍

As for this being one of the best threads in a long time, thanks but there have been tons of good ones that pertain to the REAL object of the game. I only started this thread after toying with some so called "slow cars" I won from championships etc. I got intrigued when I saw that some of these cars could actually rival and even beat some of my (pre-modded) favs here on GT4. After that it became a game within a game, so to speak. Now its kinda interesting to see what everyone else can do with these little sleeper cars :)

Ok, I've had a bash with a couple of old cars:

Nissan Bluebird 1600 Deluxe (510) '69 - 179.98 mph.

Mazda Carol 360 Deluxe '62 - 134.22 mph.

I'm a bit new to tuning for top speed, so I'd be interested to know if any of you experienced engine fettler's can do better.

I actually saw 180mph on the speedo for the bluebird run, but I've submitted the official recorded speed from top ten board.

Think I might have a look at that Honda z act next...

I'll bet Deimos takes you up on that...lol, he mentioned the Carol before and he really has a knack of getting a few extra MPH's outta these things....drafting etc.

I just put the Triumph Spitfire through the paces and was kinda impressed. It came stock with 72 HP and topped out @ 108.7 MPH, with the zoom goodies and some setup I managed to better that by just over 100 MPH for an amazing 215.71, havnt got around to any acceleration tests on it yet.

Aye, was looking around my garage last night, Spitfire looked like a contender for some serious tuning.

Have to say, the satisfaction of beating modern higher powered cars is a good feeling - even if my driving style is a little ahem 'spirited' :)
Means I miss the omission of ford escorts, TR6's MG's and the like even more now though :(

Oh Lord. Tell me I'm not getting a reputation ;) (Comment much appreciated)

Amen to that, I know they have MG'S but I know what you mean.....REAL MG'S of the older variety would be nice to see, as well as some Escorts you mentioned and maybe some Capri's, Cortina's, old Vauxhall's, Truimph's and the list goes on for me.

Right now I'm working on the '76 Golf GTI, not what many would call a slow car....especially in its day, but a real challenge to get to 200 MPH. So far I've managed a best of 198.78 and can get no further aaaarrrrggg :banghead: Ive tried everything! Deimos, this might need your magic touch....I wont give up yet though....lol. Oh and BTW, where is it you take your cars to try the drafting? And oh yes, your ARE getting a reputation, rock on :)

For the drafting I go to the Test course and do a race meeting, as you come out of the pits, one/all of the cars should shoot past you. After that, it's a matter of timing your NOS to be just still going as you approach those cars - hopefully you won't be approaching to quickly - I nearly crashed my Bluebird at about 200mph doing that, swerving so as not to hit the car in front, and I've heard that it actually is possible to write off the cars in GT4 - things about them not driving properly...just suddenly there's not control at high speed etc. :scared:

That worked! Thanks Deimos 👍

For the record, the '76 Golf hit 203 MPH :)

Stoppit, your making it worse! lol

heh, im gonna have a go at getting the good old Honda N360 to push the 150 mark :P

at stock gear ratios 79mph :O

on test track slipstreaming a toyota celica gtfour i got it push 160 :) in fourth gear (w/NOS)

So this is truly fun.

1991 Honda BEAT:

Drag - 13.785

Top End - 182mph

I tried to draft it, but I was losing control everytime.

Honda LIFE STEP VAN:

Drag - 16.871

Top End - 138

A particularly horrendous spoiler mount as well. lol.

I'll stop and leave some more fun to others...

Oh god, I know! That car is evil, cant even stay straight on the test track! :yuck: Interesting that they made it rear wheel drive, thats initally what made me upgrade it.. to see its potential.
