Compared to less expensive logitech wheels. How much better are lap times?
Wanted to know more about Fanatec too but nobody uses them that much.

You'll get much better feedback in the Sim Racing Hardware sub-forum, try there. :)

First, I recommend posting this in the Sim Hardware section, not here. Second, a lot of people do use Fanatec wheels, in fact I would say they are extremely popular with CSP being the best pedals and with their new releases.

What I can tell you though is the G27 is a huge step up from the DFP and DFGT. The FFB is better and much smoother. Having an H-gate shifter is a huge plus for those who use it. The paddles have a great feel to them, very positive feedback when shifting. The buttons on the wheel are nice but I grew used to te DFP placement and have difficulty at times with what is where.

The pedals are a huge upgrade, the difference is amazing. This us what will decrease your lap times the most. Threshold breaking is so much easier and you can be a lot more consistent. I NIXIM modded mine and they feel awesome, especially for only $35.

How much time did it save? I guess it depends on the track but for me on a track like La Sarthe in a 787B it was around 2+ seconds. Others it may be just a tenth or two. I do WRS mainly so I'm rarely on a car track combo for more than a week so it's hard for me to answer.

Edit: Why did you create a second thread here when daan just redirected you and closed your other one?

just got mine today and it's pretty awesome, was confusing at first but i'm getting the hang of it

Did you have another wheel prior to the G27?

Was not expecting much response to Fanatec inquiry as it is probably not that popular due to cost. Plus I realised quickly fanatec not an option for me because of customer support so I narrowed my focus. Realized that was probably the best direction to go in for me at the time.

and Thanks mcFizzle. That's the type of answer that I was looking for.
Can you explain threshhold braking? Familiar with load cell and potentiometer's only.
I know load cells measure pressure while pote's measure distance traveled, but Threshold?

Threshold braking just refers to the technique of modulating brake pressure to keep them just on the verge of locking the wheels without doing so. It's not a different type of pedal.

I must not be a very good shopper. I always hear talk (lately) of how Logitech is so much cheaper but when I needed to replace my dead Driving Force they wanted $300 for a G27. I wound up getting a Fanatec GT3 with Clupsports for only 30 dollars more, just didn't get the extra shifters.

I've never heard anyone call the G27's cheap. I think they are referring to Logitech's other offerings. Club Sport pedals are cool, but i thought about it for a while and decided to go with an Officially licenced wheel. Figures that's how the game is being developed. A popular choice given the size of the T500's thread.

I do a LOT of rally racing in GT5, and going from a DFGT to a G27 is a huge improvement, mainly with the pedals. Even with bungee cords on both the gas and brake on the DFGT pedals they still seemed limp, and the brake pedal was not very linear. Now, with the G27, even the guys that I race with say my throttle and brake modulation is much better.

I only spent $255 on my G27 through www.amazon.com, where I spent $139 + $30 for the DFGT and GranTurGismo paddle shifters for it. So the difference was only $86 for me.

I think that the DFGT is the best bang for your buck, it is a very very good wheel to get started on and get away from the DS3/SixxAxis controllers. My DFGT will be going to my Dad for christmas (he just got a PS3 and I gave him GT5P) so I'm hoping that will motivate him to get GT5 and race with me.

The G27 is a very nice wheel, the best one I've ever used.... having said that, I must also state that I've never even seen a Thrustmaster/Fanatec in person, let alone tried one.

You have a very nice wheel and pedals!

you should have shopped and asked around for the G27!
If you subscribe to the logitech newsletter you can get a coupon for 50% off one logitech item and the G27 would only cost you $150!
:)

I upgraded from DFP to G27. I may be slightly faster with the G27, but the big difference I noticed thanks to the excellent G27 wheel and pedal feedback is that my lap times are much more consistent!
