So, finally got around to watching the final episode (HIMYM Marathon on a local channel).

Kind of predictable, on one hand. Fitting on the other. But sort of a piece with the entire season... the pacing was awful.

While you had to know something like this was going to happen, it all feels a bit too convenient... sort of like the ending of Harry Potter. Only a bit less clumsy.

HIMYM is definitely one of my favorite TV shows. Too bad its over already. The ending is absolutely horrible. I hope the alternative ending is good.

The ending wasn't horrible, at least it wrapped everything up and didn't leave me going "WTF was that?!" like the Soprano's or Lost.

It was sad to see the series end, but after the final season left such a bitter taste in my mouth, I was happy when the finale aired.

It was contrived.

They laid it out, wrapped it up in a bow, and served it to Ted on a silver platter with blue horns.

Understandably, it's supposed to be a comedy, and they can't end it on a downer... but it's all a bit too convenient. Like a wish fulfillment fantasy... which is a sign of poor writing.

And the pacing was just awful. To sit through hours of slogging through that wedding and the lead-up, only to have the whole "I met your mother and we got hitched" part handled as an aside in the final episode was jarring. Granted, they had a pat in-universe explanation for that, one which made it all make sense, but it was something most viewers had an inkling that the series was leading up to. Don't we at least get the "Four Weddings and a Funeral" treatment instead of just "Weekend at Barney's" (Wedding)?

I hope the new ending on the DVD makes up for it. Aside from the pacing and some issues with being overly serious in parts, the final season was still somewhat enjoyable, though the show's best moments are arguably further back in the past.
