I currently race with a ds3 and was hoping that some drivers who use quality racing wheels could tell me if their laptimes got better using a wheel.
I do ok with the ds3 but while i can see the racing line i want i cant always follow it perfectly.
Cheers in advance.

It makes all the difference. You just have to get used, but if you actually drive in real life, that shouldn't be a problem at all. You'll improve not only your lap times but also your driving style. If you want to be competitive online, a wheel is a must. Tip: just build a setup you can mount/dismount quickly in case you have a lack of space at home or you're married :sly:

The wheel makes a great difference in your times. I've used the wheel since GT3, a friend of mine got a wheel and he gained up to two seconds a lap pending on the track. Though for some people they are faster on a DS3 but for a limited time pending on race.

I can tell you, the difference is astounding. Not only do you have much more control over what the car does but you are also MUCH smoother and that simply equals faster lap times. Take the jump, everyone will tell you this.

Lap times aside, you will just enjoy the game more. :)

Yes, they make a HUGE differance.I got 1 about 2 months ago, totally changed the game for me.Made it more realistic.Took me a couple days to get use to racing with it, but now I cant see playing the game w/o it.I have a driving force gt and I just recently bought this stand for it http://www.speedblack.com/usa/start.html or you can go to www.speedblack.com and select you region.

Thanks for the comments, iv heard the DFGT is a good wheel im currently bidding on a G25, the G27 is a little expensive as i only play GT5.
2-3 seconds per lap would be very welcome too :)

I am not slamming the DS3 users, but...

With a controller you are playing a game, and with a wheel you are driving a car. The difference is that big.

I used a controller for the original GT, and by GT2 I had my first wheel. I never want to play a racing game with a controller again.

Loads more fun with a wheel; then of course you'll need a race seat to mount it on :)

I was thinking about getting the mig welder out and making some kind of frame for it. Just to keep it steady, lots of examples online including one for £1500!
Oh and i already have fun with the DS3, dont mind admitting im looking for precision (and better lap times). Id like to compare with a good wheel racer but maybe not publicly in case my lap times show me up lol

It's definitely worth the money even if GT5 is the only game you'll be using it for. Most of what I do is online racing and I was usually getting 3rd-5th place. Once I got the wheel, I am consistently top 3. It's a huge difference, especially on high-powered vehicles or RR or MR vehicles where throttle control is important.

I find myself leaning in the corners in my racing seat, just like in real life. haha

Driving with a wheel = fun factor raised by 1000%. At first a wheel will not automaticly make you faster but in time say about 2 weeks you will get smoother and have more control of the car which will = faster lap times.
On another note there are people that use controllers that are just as fast as anyone on a wheel.

The wheel definitely enhances your GT5 experience by a long shot IMO. I used to play with the DS3 as well before I got my DFGT wheel and at first you are more than likely going to suck with the wheel for about the first week but after that the wheel becomes much more enjoyable and as far as lap times go I personally haven't seen a big increase or decrease in them although I haven't had the wheel for to long to really see a difference. 👍

Can you tell difference between::odd:

Night and Day?
Sun and Rain?
Making 🤬 au naturel or with 5 condoms on top of one another?

If not you won´t notice any difference from pad to wheel :dopey:.

GT5 is meant to be played with a wheel, have Gts since GT1 in 1998 and allways played with wheel 👍.

Get one mate ASAP.

I'll probably buy a steering wheel this holidays. I've tested the T500RS twice and i gotta say: it's amazing. But its to expensive.

LOL, i get it! :)

Is there paddle shift on the driving force gt? I guess not as its not mentioned in their advertisement. Can you move the shifter to the left side?.

DFGT doesn't have paddle shift :S

DFGT has buttons in lieu of paddles. If you think ahead you can usually make sure you're holding the wheel in the right place to access them when you need them. Otherwise, there's the stick which is useful when exiting hairpins and you have a lot of lock on. I've seen mods that attach proper paddles and I thought I might go this route, but I managed without. You will need something rigid and relatively stable to mount it on.

In terms of GT5, I was about done with the game until my bro got a wheel. So I got one too and the game got a whole new lease of life - I even managed to gold Monza in the Vettel challenge. I have to admit I still use a stick for drifting and rallies but that's probably because I don't play these types much and so haven't practiced.

Mind you, I still get beaten by people using DS3.

I ordered my Fanatec GT3 RS V2 and Clubsport pedals and based on what I'm reading, I can't wait until it arrives :scared: I used to use the Logitech Driving Force Pro with GT4 and it helped a lot with my lap times. It alsp increased the fun factor. I have yet to use a wheel with GT5 but if its this fun with a DS3, I can only imagine how it'll be with a good wheel.

Ok thanks for the info, the G27's still cost a bit so its gonna be G25 or DFGT. If it gives the control i imagine it should make me quicker after i get used to it. Awesome advice, ill comment on here once i get it :)

Performance-wise? A LOT!
Feeling-wise? Can't be quantified. That big it is.

It will put an enormous smile on your face, I promise.

If you are using a Fiat 500, you wouldn't see a big difference, but for faster cars or the X2010 for sure.
No wonder, you must be faster because you can control the car with your hands, 10 fingers & 2 feets - at the same time. :dopey:👍

The same reason why every ego shooter player with a mouse & keyboard would own a DS3 player. More buttons & more precision. :sly:

Wheel ordered, thanks for the advice.
DRIVING FORCE GT :)
Just need to get the welding gear out now, for a nice stable platform.

Yes it does, there attached behind the wheel.

It doesn't imo. Small buttons are not real paddles. :sly:

its really fun....I can't imagine me still playing GT5 since last November if i didn't have a wheel.....The thumb cramping would catch up to me...Its a great experience...With a wheel you'll realize that you wanna drive anything, even a Retro volkswagen beetle for the heck of it.
