i am half a second faster with the wheel. but i use the DS3 becuse i am lazy, i have laptimes always top 50 in the leaderboards, so i shouldnt be so bad ;)

No paddles on gt but iv been told the buttons are good anyway so happy with that.

Well I mean somewhat like paddles! ;)

Yeah the DFGT is harder for me paddle-wise since I drive with my hands at 11 o'clock and 3. It needs longer paddles, like a real car.

All my racing buddies that have wheels swear by them so once I can get some extra cash together and build a driving rig, I'll be racing with a wheel.

I like my wheel but I currently do not have a good place to mount it. I'm using an end table but I believe that once I have a proper setup, I'll enjoy it a lot more. I did see a lot of improvement mostly due to more precise steering and throttle control. But out of laziness, I've been playing with the DS3 lately.

From my experience going from DS3 to DFGT, GT5, with wheel is ANOTHER game, completelly another game, so much fun!!!, i recomend you to buy a wheel, you wanna start from 0 to "feel" the cars, buy it!!

A friend of mine have an A5 (awesome ride!!) and the paddles are something like DFGT!!!

If you dont got a wheel, then you aint playing for reeeal.
plus they say the Wheel is one of mans greatest inventions...

Get one ASAP! and do the license tests again

I think I play minimally well with a PS3 controller, I want to try a wheel. :)

Yes, i think i do well with ds3 too, i beat wheel users in short races but after 40 mins of steering with your thumb i find the amount of concentration required too much and mistakes creep in. The wheel is in the post and i plan to re do the licence tests and finally start the A spec enduro's. Should be good practice :)

Got my DFGT today, had a 5 minute blast around deep forest and i was awful lol, didnt expect anything else though. Practice time tonight, no manual came with it but im sure there will be an online one somewhere.
:)

Cheers man! first, if you are a regular person, not a multiple F1 champion, you gonna sucks, thats guaranted, two tips, for the curves turn the wheel early than you think and when you have your tail loosey, to recover, you must turn the wheel oposite (thats know) very fast, i mind really fast, i hope i was clear.👍

great....stick with it and get used to it..When i got my wheel...
Just a tip...With the wheel as strange as this sounds if you wanna turn....you gotta turn the wheel....and you won;t be full on the brakes all the time like a ds3 forces you to do....that just causes understeer.

Cheers for the tips, just done an hour and in slow cars im already beating old lap times, gonna take a week or so for the race cars though. Just tried the FGT and it was a bit of a disaster, 10 laps of high speed ring, crashed on every lap bar one and this time was 3 seconds off my DS3. No doubt the wheel will be better in time though :)

Huge difference in all aspects. I could've lessened the agony of the vettel challenge if I had a wheel. Sigh...

Yeah, the Nascar events were much easier with a wheel also!

Some people can do well with the controller. For those that can do it, great for them. They may not notice an improvment when converting to a wheel.

I have been trying to drive with the controller and I find myself all toes! :D

I just can't be smooth. There are settings for the controller (aftermarket with the throttle and brake next to each other in place of the right thumb joystick) but I have yet to try to adjust things.

I fell so at home with the wheel compared to the controller. Much less frustration when trying to beat the competition.

update!
I officially hate my new wheel lol, the force feedback is moving me about even when in control of the car grrr. Ill keep trying tho :(

Start the game over, or at least do all the license tests again. That's really the only way to become comfortable with it.

Cant start over but i took advice and re did my tests.
On the first two licences i golded 5 that were bronze from before so pleased with that. Previously i was averaging 1:26 lapping grand valley in the FGT over 10 laps (weak i know) iv just done it with the wheel and im getting consistent 1:24's, even though i feel im not pushing things its sorta coming so ill persevere :)

I wouldn't drive the FGT as a way to learn the wheel. I refuse to drive my FGT or the X2010, because they are so different than every other car. You need to learn about being smooth, and how you can better manipulate weight transfer with the wheel. I'd start slow...

I only got my first wheel about a week ago (GT3 RS w/CSPs), I completely know what you're feeling. The advice on redoing license tests is right on. 👍 I can tell you from my experience with the wheel I was able to start beating my old gold times on license tests after a couple of days, and in some cases beating times that took me multiple days of effort on the controller in only 20 minutes on the wheel.

And something else that helped me a lot - try some of the first A-Spec races with cars in the same ballpark as the competition. Like a nice Miata or a Civic, stock. Not only was it easier to control with the wheel at that slower speed, it helped me learn the mechanics and differences from the controller a lot more easily. That, and it was incredibly fun! :)

Trying to match what took you a while to get to on the controller when you're just getting used to the wheel will not happen for a while. I'd recommend starting with weak cars, then build up. Once you've got the basics on how the cars feel with that much control, then you can brave some of the high horsepower FR monsters in a more educated fashion.

So i did the first 2 licences yesterday, iv made a comfortable stand now for my wheel and pedals which should help. Ill do the remaining licences and try some slower cars soon. Meanwhile its back to the controller for the championship race tomorrow. Thanks for the advice :)

I've got the DFGT and I really love the experience you get from it, my lap times are no quicker though, roughly the same. I swap between the pad and the wheel on regular occasions but generally use pad for online and wheel for normal racing. My only gripe is the recovery time after a spin, it seems to take forever to recover with the wheel.

will try today, a wheel of a friend of mine. will be even better than the PS3 controller? I never played with wheel. I just tried to make a Nordschleife Fastest Lap and my time is 6:32:556 with controler ps3!!! Can i do better? what's your opinion? 👍

It depends what care you were driving.

This thread is making me want a wheel. I just don't have anything to mount it on >.<

I see that you have TCS on... Any other Aids? SRF? SRF will knock about 5 seconds off your lap and is essentially cheating.

Either way, there is definitely room for improvement on that lap.

no AIDS, cheating? why? TCS which is it?

just use the line of conduct
