How much difference does a wheel make

no AIDS, cheating? why? TCS which is it?

just use the line of conduct

I can see that you used TCS. TCS (Traction Control) isn't cheating but SRF is like a magic aid that gives you extra grip when you start to slide.

tcs off, i will beat this time and i eill show you the game play, not the replay 👍

This thread is making me want a wheel. I just don't have anything to mount it on
you would find something, an old chest of drawers with the drawers removed is easy enough, just putting the finishing touches to my ex bedside table now :)

A half inch by six inch by two foot piece of wood is all you need to mount a wheel on to make it useable. Not as nice as a proper table or stand but it works just fine. A wider board would help you keep it stabilized, but of course comes with it's own problems. I think some wheels come with attachments to help hold it in your lap too, my old one did. Again not ideal, but quite usable once you get used to it.

I still need to find a small table somewhere my new one will fit on... I actually need two as the PC monitor and PS3 TV are at different heights. I'll probably buy one and nail something together out of 2x4s and plywood for the other one.

However, you can forget about doing k-turns and that sort of thing with 900 degree steering if it's in your lap, that will just drive you crazy... not that you should need to do that sort of thing very often. Setting it to 900 isn't really THAT necessary anyway, many race cars IRL have custom steering that only goes around a bit more than once anyway.

Its the 900 degree thing that is driving me crazy! I dont think i have any options to cahnge this ridiculous set up. No way race cars have that much!!! grr lol.
Im thinking about goin back to the damn controller :(

Exactly. Annoys me a lot on my new DFGT, as well. Personally, I might just go back to the MOMO I've used before, that has a proper (low) turning angle.

The 900 degree thing should only be a problem when you crash, tbh. I dare say that if you are turning it more than 180 degrees one way or the other in a turn/corner, you're not driving properly.

Get better and crash less :P

Yes, it only matters when you crash - or when your car oversteers and you want to catch it. With the MOMO, which is limited to about 120 degree each way, it's easy to countersteer and catch the car, with the DFGT, I have to admit, I'm just not good enough. Sometimes I might even catch it, but than I have to find my way to go straight again, but I'm so confused about how many rotations I've done with the wheel at that point that it's just faster to stop, readjust and start again.

Granted, I'll probably get used to it at some point, but it was a disappointment nonetheless...

900 degrees does work ok for standard racing. You do have to crank on it a good bit farther to correct oversteer but not so far you need to start hand-over-handing it(and for me currently, making my wheel flop all over the place). The extra sensitivity for small corrections can be nice.

When you do crash/spinout however, that's where it becomes annoying -- especially when combined with having to use a stupid button to use reverse instead of just shifting into reverse gear(even if that was done by pressing a button so all the "I can't count shifts" people wouldn't complain).

I couldn't even imagine trying to drift with 900, but then I can't imagine myself wanting to drift anyway.

My Fanatec wheel lets me select any amount of wheel rotation I want, I thought the other wheels I looked at said something about being able to switch it, maybe I'm mis-remembering. Wish I could figure out how to make the clutch work in GT5 though.

Couldnt have put it better myself. So im not gonna try :)

Yes, i think i do well with ds3 too, i beat wheel users in short races but after 40 mins of steering with your thumb i find the amount of concentration required too much and mistakes creep in. The wheel is in the post and i plan to re do the licence tests and finally start the A spec enduro's. Should be good practice :)

That is my problem too. My hands hurt after racing for a half or more at a time and most of my league races are an hour. Don't know why I've been dragging my feet on getting a wheel. If I am relatively fast with a controller I should be faster with a wheel once I get used to it right?

Its a problem with the game. A race car does not have 900 deg rotation. I sure thought a so called "simulator" would....you know simulate that. Thank goodnes other games let you change it. Its a total oversight and personally makes the game un-enjoyable for me.

i just got my g27 yesterday and lets say im not good yet but it so fun

I dont get any aches or anything, the controller is too twitchy and i cant maintain good laps past the 45 min mark. Popular opinion is that yes, you would be faster with a wheel after getting used to it. (maybe a week or so, based on an hour a day). Im seeing small gains after 3 days (5 hours play).

mistakes take a long time to correct with this wheel, bugs me too :(

you said I was cheating? take the test, and tell me how to do better...

if you do not understand Portuguese, "Desligado" means off

I will try other tracks, I am tired of this one... see you later alligator

I see that you have TCS on... Any other Aids? SRF? SRF will knock about 5 seconds off your lap and is essentially cheating.

Either way, there is definitely room for improvement on that lap.

You tell me this:tup:

I'm considering buying one to, becaus all you guys said! :)
what's the difference between the g27 and the g25? is the 27 that much better?
and I really can't use the clutch pedal?

Well I don't know much about those high end wheels and if you have/want to spend that much money on it then feel free but I suggest the Logitech DFGT, it's cheap for a wheel and works just fine. It doesn't have a few things that the higher end wheels have but like I said it works just fine IMO.

UPDATE:
I can now match or beat my lap times on all tracks with the wheel 5 days in. The main advantage so far is consistency. With the controller laps normally varied but with the wheel they are always within a second of each other. Definately worth getting a wheel if you race online :)
PS For some reason im still a second slower around cote d azure???

I use a G25 and it is like a different game now. Early on I was using a DS3 which got me through most of the game. But I struggled with the Formula Gran Turismo series. Using a DS3 is ok for sharp or long corners but for medium high sweeping speed corners It's hard for me to keep the racing line at speed. But using the wheel I can hold a perfect racing line at speed and now I've also got the confidence and I 've turned off all settings (except abs on 1) and gone to manual transmission. It's a bit like re- learning the game with more to learn than just accelerate and brake but you do get the hang of it and you will get faster lap times. A good idea is to spend some time with the wheel on the vettel challenge in manual and all assists off, if you can do that it will improve your driving dramatically.

Hey, the server is down so i just thought i would try the last vettel challenge now i have a wheel. Bronze on the first go :)
This challenge with a wheel is much easier. Might go after silver soon, dont want to as for some reason i dont like the Vettel Red Bull, not sure why? Chuffed anyway.

Haha, I forgot about this thread.
Update- Get a wheel! After spec 2 the advantage has pretty much gone (apparently) but it still immerses you in the game more than a controller.
I won the FGTC with my DFGT :D
