51 years old and a recent convert from PC gaming, after 20+ years I finally got sick of the old constant upgrade cycle, drivers issues etc. Bought a PS3 and GT5 XL about 2 years ago, now over 40% through GT6.

I started with GT1 when I was 2 years old.

Since I am 17, I have been playing the GT series for 15 years!

But still, I have to find my GT1 and play it again...

Hahahaha . . . .even an LOL wouldn't have cut it, Joe, when I read that - you lovable old codger - I had to laugh for real, well, virtually real anyway. LOL was too lame a laugh for that. If there were more guys like you out here, the world would be a more sensible place for sure. I've always thought it would be better to die at the virtual wheel, than any other way to die. Go out passing the finish line. Maybe Mission 34. Die happy.

Some questions - if you don't mind:
Have you played Gran Turismo (anything from the series) before?
Did you play other racing games before?
How did you come about becoming a GT player?
Many of these questions are asked by Jordan in his thread about introducing oneself to the site - but I am especially interested in your case - since I'm an old codger myself. I got a few decades to get through before I get to your position, but it inspires us oldies to know that people like you have not just given up on life, folded up and gone back to sleep.
Actually, oldies, today, have a vast amount of technology to keep them going - even wheelchair-bound - entertained all the way into that final sunset - not a lot that Charlie Bucket's grandparents had to do, but we have it all. 👍

:cheers;

"Be happy to grow old. Not all will have that privilege."

Hi there Photon Rider. My opinion of old age differs from most older men. I know time left gets less & less every day. I live life for today, what happens tomorrow, happens. I've had a wonderfull life and have no complaints. My wife of 54 years (a year younger than myself) says that after two midlife crises at ages 43 & about 60 started to buy and do things that I did't think of doing before, I have now defnitly entered my second childhood. I say f..k em all. I'm having a absolute ball. Back to sim racing. My 30 year grandson got involved with sim racing on a makeshift rig and because I have an engineering workshop, asked me if I can build a proper rig for him. At this point I had not heard of GT5 or even sim racing before. I have never played any sort of computer game before. I said to him, show me what you like and I'll have a go at it. I had no doubt I could make anything he could throw at me. Well it so happens that he showed me a photo off the internet and it was the VESARO rig. I said OK that's easy enough. It took me about three months in spare time. As it progressed he seemed to have lost interest in sim racing, so I said I'll keep it for myself and exactly one year ago I brought it home from the workshop. I must admit that I got very fond of it whilst making it. I bought a PS3, a good Logitec surround souns, GT5 & 42" TV & racing seat & G27 setup and had my first go on 13 December 2012. It was a fantastic experience, I loved it. I have not missed a day racing in the last 12 months. Like everything else you got to practice and I'm getting better and faster by the day. I've golded everything on GT5 except the Nuburg & Suzuka challange. I was about to tackle those when I bought GT6. I won't be happy till I golded those two challanges. I look forward to racing on line as soon as my internet contract expires and I can go ADSL. If you're interested I send you a pic of my rig. I've just added a plinth to the rig which I think just finishes it off nicely. I don't think that sim racing is very popular in South Africa, certainly not in Cape Town. I preordered GT6 a two of our major distributers only two days before release and my name was the only name at both which is a clear indication of the lack of interest. I wish I could promote it here somehow. Racing is much more exciting when one competes against another.
Nice chatting to you Photon Rider - Cheers

Good for you Ozirules12. I think that if we entered an over 72 race, it will just be the two of us. Good health to you my china and keep on racing. The only down side of old age is that the young chicks have long since given us a miss. I've tried Viagra and it just does'nt work. My doctor says that it is designed to cure the ill not raise the dead. Not my doctor anymore.

14, played since GT4. I use a DS3, but it doesn't keep me from winning online:p

I'm 70 soon to be 71. I've been with the franchise since Prologue. I got serious about it two years ago. I have a rig, Fanatec CSR-E wheel, and CSPv2 peddles. I got the Platinum Trophy in GT5 and am enjoying GT6.

33 - Been playing the series since the first GT on the PS1.
On a side note: My favorite racing game prior to GT was Top Gear 2 on the SNES. After seeing GT for the first time it blew my mind and it was the sole reason why I bought a Playstation. It was a system seller for me, even for the PS2 and PS3. If GT comes out for the PS4 then I guess I'll buy it also.

22yo, played GT1 as an 8 year old(thus into playing GT for 14 years already)...and had played all the main games(plus GTC:2001 tokyo and GT5 prologue) EXCEPT the critically acclaimed GT3 that I seriously skipped so bad :(

Bought GT5:2013 Edition last month, and after a span of 2 weeks, immediately obtained GT6 so i would not miss that 15th anniversary label...currently playing both, and oh i still keep in touch of GT2 via PS emulator on my PC ;)

Wow that's a replay to an old, old, post (#2045) from me back when I was 47. Now let's jump to 2013. Now I'm 52. Which makes me a fossel in the works. Let me practice some more and I may take you up on that challenge.

Next May I will qualify for your club, Joe and Ozi.

Meantime, would either of you like to drive online some time? Not to prove any dominance, just to have fun.

I am 22 and started the GT franchise with GT5 when it was released, since PS3 was my first Sony console. But I've been playing Need for Speed franchise before this, since NFS II, in PC, when I was 5.

You should really consider picking up a copy of GT3, it's a great game!

The immersion factor, look and feel of the tracks and backgrounds of GT3 is something to highlight. Grand Valley, Deep Forest, Apricot Hill and Laguna Seca instantly come to mind as great examples. GT5/6's versions feel so flat and dead in comparison imo. The jump in graphics from GT2/PS1 to GT3/PS2 still blows me away to this day! Amazing considering GT3 came out in 2001, just 2 years after GT2 back in 1999.

Hook your PS2 up with some HD Component Cables to a modern LCD TV and you won't regret it! I know I didn't! :D

I'm 15 years old(turning 16 in March), and I've been playing Gran Turismo since i was 5. i would cry every time my father beat me, and now 10 years later, i smoke him every time! :D

I will be same age on sunday did you gold the seb vettel event i will send you fr when you get gt 6 we might be able to help each other i could do with it in the current tt76 cant get below 2.34.062
Next May I will qualify for your club, Joe and Ozi.

Hi GBO Possum, nice to hear OZ and myself are not entirly alone in this young environment of sim racing and yes I would love to get togther on line, it would be a blast. I am not on line yet and therefor will have to learn the ropes of on line racing. At present I'm busy with GT6 licences and almost done. Will make contact when ADSL is installed. In the meantime have a fantastic new year for you and yours.

Joe, this is excellent news. And all the best for 2014!

17 and first one I played was gt4 and the first one I got was gt3 but I have all the main once and concept edition and the one for the psp

I'm 15 and have been playing for as long as I can remember (probably about 10 years). Started with GT3 and now have GT1-6 and GT4P, GT5P and GT Concept 2002 Tokyo-Geneva.

I'm 20 and started with the original Gran Turismo in 1999. My dad bought the Dreamcast which replaced the PS1 in the living room and ended up being in my room.

As good as Sega GT was, It was no Gran Turismo killer!

I am 14 years old, and own every Gran Turismo game, excluding GT6. I first started playing GT1 for PS1 when I was about 6 or 7 years old.

22 started with GT2, i remember back then they were giving GT stickers in cereal box lol. I also remember having this PlayStation Underground demo disc with a demo of GT2!

16, started with GT3. Still have my original disk and PS2 as well :D Have yet to play GT1 & GT2. I own GT4 but my fat PS2 won't load the game. I can do a race but get the red loading icon right after I finish it.
