How should mid race saves work?

Its pretty simple... a discussion of how the now confirmed under development in race saves should work. Maybe PD will see this, maybe they won't. Still worth talking about.👍

Start a race, pause it, hit save, go do things other than Gran Turismo, come back, hit resume, and finish the race. I don't see that much discussion to be had here .

But considering the fact of PD taking a bit of time developing it can possibly be a bit more complex.

If so, more power to them 👍. I can't wait to see what they do with anything they release.

So will I. PD works in mysterious ways I always say, so how the mid-race saving will work is a lot more distant than what is expected by the community. Or maybe a bit closer..

And then there is always the possibility that they totally half-blow it. But they've gotten better about that lately, so maybe those days are behind us.

Sure do hope so.

A "Save" button after pressing "Start" while in a race and then when you want to come back to it, click on the same event and finish the race?

It doesn't seem like it'd be hard at all but as we all know PD is a bit special. ;)

Maybe to make it a bit more interesting we could save in a pit stop and see our driver leave the car and go into the pits, then when we resume our driver comes out of the pits into the car, and off he'll go!!!

Oh wait, I better shut up. Though it would be nice, PD would take three years making it happen. Plain pit stop save option then please!

That's actually a good idea IMO.

It'd be way too much modeling for such a small feature. They could use that effort to start modeling a car or track 👍.

Hit pause, press the save button, the game records the fuel and tyre wear at that point along with the gaps between each car, all cars then go onto auto drive at say 60km/h (like online when you hit pause on track) and drive to the pits. You'd then be able to leave the race and come back later, upon doing so each car would be released from the pits in order in timed intervals with the same fuel and tyre levels as before you saved it. Too easy?

What about the save option once you pit in? Then you can resume from the pit lane next time.

Yes, that sounds reasonable for having save option during pit stop.

Just don't exploit it :)

add:
Just like the classic championship save, you can't join other race unless you cancel the ongoing championship.

It's more likely they'll do pit-stop implemented race saves, to keep the purists from crying foul that we can save mid-race with no disadvantages.

I like the pit stop idea. If you stop do it properly like in a real race.

But I would like to do a part of a 24hg race and then do some online or B-Spec remote in between and go back to the 24h later, when I have the time to do 2 or 3 hours again. So this stop like a classic championship is not my preferred option.

Hit Start
Suspend Race
Quit GT5
Do something else.

This, or the option to save during a pit stop...đź’ˇ

EDIT:I'm sooo late...

This, with addition of only saving when in the pits. End of topic!

I'd also like the switch to B-spec option, similar to GT4, please.

I agree. Although the pause method would work pretty well.

The big question is when you do pause the game can you then play GT5 on another account on the same PS3. (Remote Races)

You had better be able to, but PD was crazy enough to restrict gifting to one car per PS3, completely ignoring that multiple people may be using the same system, so who knows.

I would like a save in the pits or switch to a bob. I wouldn't mind saving mid race but I find that when I resume a race even from a paused game I will make a mistake in the first corner.

I think the best way is to save the game only when you're in the pit. But to make it a bit more complex, you only get 6 times to save as a default, but you can add to that number by earning 1 in-game save if you drive in the same track for a lap or two in practice mode. No limit on how much you can have, but once you start the race, you cannot add more until you start a new race. Why you may ask? Well, so you can actually gain experience on that track for all the good reasons.

Anyway, I think the only draw back from the in-game save feature is people exploiting it. You know some people just can't take losing and WILL exploit it for their own advantage.

Lose lead>Quit game>Reload file>Get back to the last save point.

I think that's the reason why the in-game save feature is taking forever. Maybe it saves the game in random while racing in addition to the in-game save option to avoid this. Basically the option for you to save is for your assurance that the game has been saved.

Don't see why this matters.

Then PD needs to get its priorities in line and think logically. That is no reason to delay anything. It shouldn't even be a concern.

Sure I agree that the feature should have came straight off the box, but from their trend they showed us, patching dupping* is that the right term?, and getting out of the track for faster credits, I can see them thinking about this scenario. Well at least one worker of them.

a Save button when you drive in the pitlane

I believe this is the best way to do it. My concern is on how the hell they'll save other drivers position. It's a lot of stuff to be saved in order to continue the game exactly how it was when you saved it.

I'd have to see how the track is mapped down to the data on the DataBase. Anyway, there are much more complex things for us software developers then race saves.
We'll have to wait and see as usual.
