How to make a race more difficult but not impossible to win?

Since I've got gold trophies at all licenses, and afterwards Seasonal Events became so easy, I noticed that GT5 lost its difficulty. There are no more challenging events. Now you can improve a car so it matches exactly the performance points needed to a seasonal event, but the races are still easy. I miss those first seasonal events that required from the driver to know every detail in the car he was driving. To win those races were so difficult but so much fun at the same time. Some could say "reduce the pp of your car" but that doesn't assure me that the race can be won even with the most perfect driving, so it could be waste of time. The question is: Anyone knows how to make a race difficult but not impossible to win?

There is no one solution for that. But always the PP limit the limit that will allow you to win quite easily. So drop 5-10% from the limit. And use the same tires that opponents use, it's mentioned in every event's description. Also try to drive fair and clean, so no cutting, ramming or anything like that. For example, I won the European Hot-Hatch championsip races in VW Golf R32, Megane RS, Clio V6, Audi A3 and Alfa 147 GTA. They're all stock. It was quite hard (I had to repeat few races 2 times to win) but also fun with my G27 and H-shifter.

I had an idea for a new type of race that would require people posting their times online: try to drive the seasonal event drift trials as fast as possible while getting 0 drift points.

Lowering tyre choice works ok or adding driver weight ballast. A big one I learned from here is no ABS and lowering your braking levels, this can even up braking performance between you and the AI.

They removed the cap of Seasonals and replaced it with description. I think everybody happy. Casual gamers and high skilled people can find their own joy.

Races seem easy only because of the awful AI.

There's no balance in terms of the AI's skill level. The AI near the end are horrible, whereas the AI near the front aren't. When you start the race (usually at the back), you will overtake every car extremely easily until you get to about 5th position. I don't see why they can't make the AI the same.
