Mine ranks 357th in 2003, down from 20th place in the 1900s, and 94th the decade I was born :indiff:

A tool for undecided future parents!

Cool java programming. 👍

Is this the site recommended on The ScreenSavers a few days ago? Well, I know it's the site, I was wondering if that's where you heard about it.

My name's popularity piqued in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which is coincidentally when I was born. I guess my parents weren't too creative!

It was the #2 name in both the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Now it's fallen to #9. Funny thing is I don't know more than one or two people with my name.

It was sent to me over Messenger today... dont't know how she found it though.

It was on the show I think on Monday. Sarah Lane was promoting it on her "Damn Good Website" segment, while Kevin Rose was exclaiming how lame it was. Not that I think it's that lame, because it is kind of interesting. But only for about ten seconds, and I don't think that's long enough for a website to be considered Damn Good. Now, GTP on the other hand...

My name is ranked 9th in 2003, but in the 70's, 80's and 90's it was ranked 2nd. In the 60's it was ranked 20th and in the 50's it was 49th. In the 1940's it was ranked 155th. In the 30's it was ranked 361st, in the 20's it was ranked 373rd, and in 1910 it was 332. In 1900 it was 316.

That can't be right - How is Jacob the top name for 2003? And I dont believe that Gemma isnt even in there (My sister asked). Oh well

If Sarah says it's a damn good website, then it is. Kevin R is just a fruit cake.

Mine (David) is number 14 currently. It was in it's high in 1960 at number 2. It was number 5 when I was born in the 80's.

You really think this website is "Damn Good?" Like I said, it's amusing for like ten seconds. Then it's quite boring. At least for me.

grr. have to wait till I get home. no java at work.

Kevin R is cooler than the other Kevin. The other Kevin tries way too hard to be funny.

It's interesting to me to see the effects of famous people or things on the naming of children. Try "River" - presumably influenced by River Phoenix's fame in movies starting in the 80s. Another good one is Amelie from the movie Amelie that came out I believe in the end of the 90s in France, early 2000s in the US.

Anyone else find anything interesting? I thought Rocky would have had a bigger impact but I don't really notice much.

Not when Kevin R talks about being a "sausage only" show and stroking iPods.

My name, Kyle, is at 53 right now. It was 27th when my parents named me in the 80's though.

I'm not sure what you're getting at but Amelie was actually quite popular in the States for a while. I finally got around to seeing it last month.

I wonder what caused Michael to be so popular in the 40s. In the 30s and before it was over 30th in rank. In the 1940s it jumped to 9th, and in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s it was FIRST. Not until the most recent years has it slipped to second. Kind of a popularity explosion there in the 40s though.

I wasn't aware of it being well known in the states... did you guys get "Le diner de cons" (The Dinner Game) , Tanguy or "Le Placard" (the Closet)?

[waits for another Josh/Joshua to arrive, since he doesn't have the time to install JRE...]

I've been told my name wasn't very popular until the 70's, when I was born. Last I checked, It's been in the top 10 for the past decade or so. I can say I've only met one Joshua older than me, and that was my Hebrew school principal.

In any case, it's rising popularity is rather spectauclar in a way; two Joshs on the NBA Atlanta Hawks, for example!

It's called comedy. What are you, homophobic? You'll do well in the Army.

Anyway, I'm not sure this thread is really supposed to be about whether the website is cool or not, so no more off-topic posts from me, I promise.
