Sounds like it's nearly time for a ride then. :p

Sure is! Once the exhaust, suspension, gearbox and brakes are in and then it'd really be worth the trip haha

The new interior is just the icing on the cake, it's going to totally refresh the car :) no more super scummy series 1 interior!

Might even be worth me making the trip to Wellington in the Max and have a NZ GTP meet of sorts.

That's my ignition. Those are cables hooked directly to the battery. Those are speaker wires twisted onto said cables.

Those were hanging about around my steering column.

The struggle is real.

You wanna check out my new stuff?

What's that? you said no?

Well that's unbelievable I can't believe you'd say something like that!

I'll make a big "Build" post to document my progress on this final and momentous car day (Or week.. depending on how easy things slot together..)

I pick up the interior and gearbox on Thursday and my brakes at some unknown point this week - work begins on Friday.

Alright so I /was/ going to make this a single post, however I've woken up at 3 am and I literally can't find anything to do with my time while I wait for the city to wake up so here we are.

Now, things that have happened. (In varying camera quality)

Brand new interior from a Series 1 turbo with 67 thousand Ks on the clock, they're actually darker than this but camera flash - no stains, no rips, no problem!

Nismo horn button, so I can have an outlet of road rage when people drive like muppets

Size comparison

got a flange welded to the shoddy cat delete courtesy of the previous owner so that when I bolt my turbo on it won't be a headache.. which cost me 160 bucks... *OUCH*

The guy at the exhaust shop was incredibly rude, I was very disappointed with his attitude and I won't be using Whangarei Muffler Services again - he was talking down to me as if I knew nothing about cars saying things like "It's still going to be loud you know, you're just paying money to make it worse"

It's a 5 inch cannon of course it's going to be bloody loud, I wasn't installing it to be quiet, I was installing it so it would stop droaning on the highway giving me a splitting headache if I drove for more than 30 minutes.

He shut RIGHT up when I started the car up for the first time, he didn't apologise but you could see it in his eyes, he knew he was wrong.
JASMA approved is no joke people, this thing is such a pleasure to listen to (Though a bit raspy and asthmatic due to having too much flow.. this will soon be solved with the 45V1)

There's absolutely no drone what so ever, couldn't be happier with my investment, would've been better if I could've just bolted it straight on myself but such is the life of the used Nissan owner.

Performed a full service and cleaned up my engine bay while Chase attempted to install my alarm (Which failed due to the alarm being a dud, still waiting to get my monies back on that)

I also did little stuff like painting the bonnet stick thingy, installed a replacement for the overheat fan that the previous owner removed?? and the washer bottle which was also missing.. I don't have the words =/

Then I managed to track down a gear surround that was a reasonable price (Finally.. it's only been 7 months) and managed to talk him down even further to 40 bucks. The guy was located up north and since I've never been that way I figured I'd go for a drive

What a good thing I did too.. not only did I randomly stumble upon my mate Dave (The Skyline expert who has a 4 door R33 drift car) who was hitchhiking down south, the guy I bought the surround had some other misc goodies such as a new boot lock with the Nissan logo and various small plastic trim pieces that have been broken over the years..

Oh he also had this thing, which got broken on the drive home

10296212_878683315480782_7929484704884201101_o.jpg

7 bucks of epoxy (And eventual sanding and painting) later and it's as good as new - not bad for 100 bucks (Seriously, it's even genuine and the brake light works)

And that brings us up to date, today I go and get my new Proxy T1R's fitted

Install my R34 suspension

10286831_879090615440052_5115913273337895093_o.jpg

And FINALLY collect my big brake kit after a month of waiting

I'll be doing a big build post for the installation of my gearbox and brakes :) I probably won't take any photos of doing the suspension though since it will be a solo job and taking photos just complicates it - plus I doubt anyone cares anyhow lol

Looks awesome man. Just needs moar lows. :p

Give me a few hours lmfao it's literally what I'm about to do.

I swear to god if this doesn't fix my ride height I'm just going to get some damn coil overs and hope the bump steer isn't too severe.

I'd be willing to give you a hand but unless I get on a plane right now it isn't gonna happen.

Colour me excited. :D

It's just suspension, there's nothing really to it  the hardest part is the fact Nissan are hateful - they put the rear tophat bolts under the parcel tray.. which means you can only access them by removing the rear seats... not looking forward to that.

What do you think of the T1Rs? I just had a set of Potenza RE002s fitted on to the Max.

I haven't tried them on the wet which I'm most concerned about given the tread pattern, however I've done 4 runs of Abbey Caves Gorge today (Twisty commute that's a nice little alternative route to work, which I got called to... the moment I got back home after getting the tyres fitted, so no suspension work today) and I'm thoroughly impressed with the grip.

I flung my car into an inertia drift and it was just so much more controllable than the Potenzas were, the potenzas just gripped up immediately and flicked the car around while the T1Rs feel much more natural.. if that makes sense.

So in the dry, thoroughly recommended despite my initial concerns. I remain skeptical about wet performance but we're scheduled for rain later in the week - given tomorrow I'm installing my suspension and brakes, it'll be perfect timing for getting back onto Mt Tiger after a hiatus due to dangerous brake fade.

Thoughts on the suspension.

This suspension comes from an R34 Turbo coupe, which has significantly stiffer damper rates and marginally stiffer springs. This adds up to significantly flatter cornering and great response - combined with the better design and newer condition of these springs it makes for a much more pleasurable experience behind the wheel.

My tests were cut short however as I noticed my lovely ex partner failed to tighten my left front tyre.. 20 minutes of waiting for my best mate to bring my tool kit to tighten my lug nuts rather killed the mood so I just limped home with my tail between my legs.

I have work this morning however, so I'll be attacking the gorge once more.

Other changes, well my ride height has dropped 10mm, while this doesn't sound significant (And it's not) the main advantage is the suspension doesn't droop as much, meaning the car sits flatter when parked on gradients - reducing the ridiculous front ride height marginally. Obviously I'm going to need teins however, I fitted this suspension knowing full well I'd have to remove it once more.

It was well worth it though, this set up feels much more controllable.

That exhaust is insane.

 Thank you! It's pretty much all anyone can talk about when they see my car. When I was getting my tyres fitted the guys could barely focus on their job - great conversation piece

Wait until you get drilled brake discs. The guys at the tire shop I went to had never seen drilled and slotted rotors before and were quite stumped to see them on a Maxima of all things.

Its awesome to see the R33 finally starting to take shape. We definitely need to do a NZ GTP meet at some point in the near future. 👍

Progress isn't bad given I only really started in Feb/march

It's all pretty much done now, all I need to do is fit my gearbox, lowering springs and brakes. Then I can chip away at my loan and then go bolt a turbocharger on :D

Make it next year when I have a license and I'll drive my dad's SVX. :dopey:

Taupo would be a nice mid point for all of us, then we get to hit SH5 and the road around the lake is pretty gorgeous too ;)

SVX
Could even make it Powercruise. That's in Taupo, but then there's the plus of access to the track. :D

Given by next year I'd probably be outputting 350-400 BHP at the rear wheels since I'll be throwing a whole new motor in, I'd actually fit in too

On this DE I'm aiming for wastegate pressure, which is roughly 280 BHP and 300nm - which is plenty.

But once that engine blows? I'm throwing a DET in there and cranking the boost up to 10-12 PSI, which should result in 340 + BHP

I just have no idea how I'd get up there.

Nice work matey!

That exaust is crazy :scared:

Do you have to check everytime now your exaust? Not that a cat is nested in it

 Thank you~

I'm sure if there was a cat hiding in there they'd be gone in a mighty big hurry! That thing makes one hell of a noise on start up!
