~> I will laugh if BBC's Top Gear will like the Genesis more than the Mustang GT. :sly:

Interesting you should bring that up. We know Clarkson absolutely hates Korean and Malaysian cars, for not being built with Soul, rather being built for making money. (According to him.) However...this one could change that idea.

3459lbs, can someone tell me what that it is kgs?

1572kg's.

Not super light then, but not heavy by today's standards either. 0-100km/hr in under 6sec is plenty fast though. I really hope they make Australian shores.

Yes, I agree with that statement.

Oh good :) Now all that's left for me is to find the weight of the DI V6 Camaro, and compare the pair.

I'd make a reasonable guess and say about 3600 lbs (1632 kg) on the low end, I wouldn't expect anything more than 3800 lbs (1723 kg) at the absolute most. Not exactly light, but within the means of expansion from the 4th Generation Camaro (that was 3400 lbs), keeping its distance from the Corvette, and of course being short of the G8 (which clocks in right at 4000 lbs).

Now, the Mustang does clock in just shy of 3400 lbs, but with the extra power that the Camaro will have (not to mention the extra cogs in the boxes), I'd still bet that it'll outdo it.

EDIT:

Wow, the Hyundai is heavier than I thought. A bit more than the Mustang, certainly... Hope they've got some fancy tricks to make it faster!

I will BOLD the parts that excited my pants. And underlined something that might surprise you.

I'm sold, seriously where do I sign? This thing will probably handle well for something that won't even cost $30k for a good one. The 4cyl turbo looks to be a pretty decent buy, especially since you can snag a 6spd tranny. The weight isn't that big of a deal, 3500lbs is light compared to alot of cars these days. Hard to imagine by my 1990 Camaro V8 weighed in at a 3103lbs mark...which by today's standards would be considered light. I'm loving this thing more and more. Sounds like a great buy. I can't wait for the priving and fuel economy figures.

-> I had driven a S197 Mustang GT M/T, and it was a disapointing value for money, only good for people who says that the S2000 is a harsh vehicle to drive with everyday. :indiff:

First of all you obviously have to be bias if you can't admit to the GT's value for money. The manual GT gets to 60mph in less than 5 seconds, has a respectable ¼mi time, handles better than people actual think it does since they OBVIOUSLY have never taken it around corners at speed, and makes a brilliant noise and looks fantastic.

"TopGear" doesn't hate the Mustang GT, infact Clarkson himself doesn't hate the new Mustang. Clarkson dislikes Ford using a LRA as opposed to an IRS. He doesn't understand that the Mustang buying public plan on drag strippin their cars so a LRA is the consumer's choice--and Ford oblidged. It handles alot better than anyone gives it credit for, and the Roush Stage II or III has one killer suspension that even Clarkson admitted was quite good. The Hamster and May love the Mustang too, as does Fifth Gear. The Shelby is the one that they and the rest of us have a problem with.

Everyone over there however LOVES the Hyundai coupe (Tiburon). Everything else except the Kia Ceed (FG loved it TG didn't) is in the trash bin in their eyes.

^ Hyundai will soon bring it over there in due time.

^ Me? Bias? Puhleese! I've driven the S197 Mustang GT Deluxe package with M/T, the most affordable Mustang GT V8 on the lot (the one that carries the base price). Sure the S197 has power and handling according to paper, but do you 'feel' it? Nope. Handles better? The Grand Prix GXP is more nimble despite the torque-steer, while the S197 plows at a casual 90 degree right turn at the intersection. Brilliant noise? Sounds like a V6 hum on a V8 to me, want soundtrack? How about the (Monaro) GTO 6.0. I do admit, it ONLY looks fantastic. A car doesn't even return the favor wherever I throw at it, and to me that IS a huge disapointment, and no sense of value for the money. :ouch:

-> Right now, my 2-door 2+2 muscle car coupe benchmark still belongs to the [Monaro] GTO 6.0. :)

Wow, just wow. I can't even fathom the words to reply to this. So, I won't.

^ Hey, I not dissing the Mustang to the full extent, I really do like the Mustang especially the SN91 and the S197 series. But due to my experience of driving it made me feel disapointed especially comparing it to the GTO 6.0. If I get a Mustang, I'd pick the overpriced Saleen 302E, if not, the Bullitt will be just fine. :)

BT-> I just saw Autoblog's video, while the two chicks were squeeling those tires. The V6 (red) showed some evident understeer (maybe the engine weight), but the car didn't pitch or wallowed. While the Turbo (silver) exhibited less understeer, but the roll was evident but nothing life-threatening. :)

:)

You can't really tell with those videos, but they look pretty planted to me. The steering looks at least pretty good. Too bad there was that stupid music in the way of the car's audio. Oh, and the body roll was barely even noticable.

I'm so impressed with Hyundai and Korea for seeming finally getting it right. Whether you like the way it looks or not you have to give them props for doing a proper front engine rearwheel drive coupe to slap Ford straight in the face.

Actually, it doesn't look that bad on video. It looks better in darker colors like that red or probably in black so that the front's lower vent area doesn't look so conspicuous.

I'd imagine in black on black it would just look the business. And as a bonus in black it would be harder to be forcused on the grille that no one but me likes.

I imagine the stage they were on was slippery, it looks slippery to me, so if understeer was notable it could be attributed to that. I really wish I could own so many of these V6 cars.

^ I think it was not intentionally made slippery. Indoor concrete surface is a tad slicker than the concrete we know from most highways, aspalt would make these cars grip as a mofo. It would make cars not play like that in tight places, especially with the size and weight of their cars. ;)

That's what I meant, it looks like slipperier than normal concrete. Even normal concrete is bad fo grip, but this one is an indoors super smooth one. Which may be half the reason they could pull those stunts in such a tight space too ;)

Heh heh, in the picture of the cut-away engine can you see the little plaque says "TURBO GO!"?

If you think Hyundai can't make any exciting cars, this may have you thinking otherwise. You may still think this is the Hyundai that makes boring cars (even with the Tiburon that's underrated for its big horsepower). This Genesis may just be the most successful Genesis since the Sega Genesis. ^_^ I've known some cute Korean girls before, but this lady is the fairest of all Korean maidens. Great upcoming cars may fuel a car company to completely redesign their cars to make exceptional and exquisite other automobiles. Let's see if this Genesis fuels any more exciting (and perhaps beautiful) designs.

I had a look at a Tiburon again today, and while that is a nice car, it makes you want to wait just a bit longer for this... However much its going to cost. It seems like this is going to be a HUGE thorn in the side of Nissan with the 350Z, and of course, the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger trio.

I just hope its transmission is good. That's the achilles heel of my hyundai.

It is a nice car. Infact the interior makes me want to stay in it. And the ride quality is quite good, and the handling, and the noise (V6), and the 5spd/6spd tranmissions are good too. Its just not as fast as some of its competition. But the new Tiburon should be automotive porn if these new Genesis cars from Hyundai tell us anything.

It was a shame. Took a look at one. Really nice interior and it looks pretty nifty... but then I thought about how my four-door was faster and possibly handled just as well (it's a Mazda)... and... nyaah.

The Genesis looks really promising. GDi 2.0 turbo... 290 ps? Hell yes!

Wow, are we getting a detuned version of the engine? I thought the only one around the 300hp mark was the V6. Plus, the 380GT badging would have me believe it's that engine in there. Hmmmm...

Though, with that badging, it becomes obvious the backend is a Skyline rip. Change it to 370GT though ;).

I like the design because it actually looks like a Hyundai, not a cut and paste from other sports car designs.
