Happy to see my SR get into the S zone and have deffo noticed much better racing once I got to A. Makes it so much more enjoyable.

Just got to try and get fast now 😂
I always thought circuit experience were a good way to find speed.

Come on into the daily race thread, all are welcome 😊

The important thing is that you have fun and are a fair racer, so all's cool bro.

The ranks are interesting in their behaviour. If you're even reasonably quick you'll make it from D to C without to much trouble, and C to B is pretty straightforward too as those two classes generally hold the drivers whose level is just that. But when you get to B all hell breaks loose as it's packed with people who are often really quick but terrible tryhards determined to make it to A no matter what, and the racing reflects that. Endless divebombs, barging you out of the way, you'll have to be so fast that they won't have the chance to take you out of you want to survive there. It's also the reason why they probably never get to A, or at least stay there for very long, as they can't hold a clean run together.

Back when I made my way through the ranks I probably spent more time in B than all others combined just for that reason. They run at A speed but the races end up being such skirmishes that escaping that rank was actually harder than eventually making it from A to A+ as the latter step was about being fast again, not avoiding being taken out. The sportsmanship didn't seem to play any part, an S ranked player was just as likely to pull off something stupid as anyone else.

Even though I have played GT7 for ages, I'm only building my online rating as I have never played online. I'm D and A at the moment and the races are usually terrible. The Sartegna race where I usually play is full of people who seem to hate anybody who is in front. I have managed to clock a descent quali time on that track so usually start in top 5. Most races I end up 10-12th after the first lap. People love to dive bomb into me for some reason. My safety rating is going up, but because I start up front but then am shoved off the road by someone and often end races towards the second half of the field, my driver rating is going down. I don't think it's fair to have driver rating deducted because someone shoves me off the road. How is that my fault? I have only played a few days online, but already can't be bothered with online any more. The ghosting helps, but it's so random, you can't never tell. Some of the dive bombers go through me, but not all. And it's very rare for me to have a clean race because of that. Pretty much the only way I can have a clean race is if I'm pole and I manage to build a gap. If there is any car near by, I usually end up in a wall or gravel and then I get penalised for it.

I’ve only been playing a few weeks myself and I’ve had the exact same experience.

It deffo got better going up through to A then S and it’s a bit better at S in C, but still a bit crazy.

What I found help me in both getting SR up and finishing in the top half was to be overly cautious when drivers are around and even take a slower line/wider line just to avoid them as you only lose a little bit of time and 9 times out of 10 the person that went past will end up spinning out or with a penalty and you’ll breeze past them easily and make the places up. Key is just staying on the track in D I found 😂

Yes, I agree. I too try not to defend and often just let people go rather than end up in the gravel. However, it seems like in those slower lobbies, overtaking is not enough. So many times I stuck to my own line, left a gap, but still ended up in a wall. I had a real shocker yesterday, when I was on pole, the second driver wished all of us clean racing and then towards the end of the first lap, where I clearly left the door open, even though, he was a good second behind, has slammed me into the wall so hard, that I ended up stuck there for a second. Had to reverse and ended up last. I have managed to get back a few places, but my DR plummeted to no fault of my own.

It is a good idea in theory, if the system was good at catching all of those dirty moves and handing severe penalties, but as far as I can tell, that guy got no penalty and ended up winning the race - so basically rewarded for that kind of behaviour.

Another one was an Ukrainian driver, who managed to shove me off the track first, then he has also slammed me into the wall on the straight where he has made a mistake on the last corner and had a slow exit. When I was overtaking him, he then slammed me into the wall. Then to my surprise, after the race, he has apologise which has really surprised me since all of these were clearly done on purpose.

I really enjoyed reading all the posts above, maybe mine will be interesting too?!
I also started playing online not long ago, having already mastered the controls well, so I quickly reached the DR C rating; SR has always been S. I understand what @=ReBeL= wrote, but I disagree about the aggression of other players. The idea that everyone is trying to kill you is most likely based on experience racing against the computer, which is very delicate. In real races, everyone wants to win and won't give up their place. I'm not saying there are no crazy people; of course, I've met them too, and quite a few of them—one in every three races—but still, it's not the overwhelming majority. @=ReBeL= mentioned that he tries not to defend himself, and I completely agree. Defense in races requires a lot of experience and skill on the part of the attacker, otherwise the defender will end up far off the track. The lack of adequate damage and penalties for such behavior forces me to let things slide, which is what I do.

I also adhere to the rule that races aren't won in the first turn, so I often drop back a few places after it, but I also often regain them due to collisions with those in front. I haven't kept statistics, but it seems to me that those who push too aggressively into the first turn are more likely to crash later in the race.

Perhaps the only method I use for protection is to take the inside line. This came about after I was repeatedly pushed off the track by drivers trying to overtake me on the inside and failing to do so; I was an excellent buffer for them.

Yes, going around the outside online is a risk, even in A or A+.

Agree that most people are not dirty, if you watch replays you often see most accidents are skill issues first, then revenge by the other driver later!

One easy tip if you want to rank up quicker - don’t quit races, it’s a DR killer.

I must admit I have rage quit a few times. If you start on pole but 2 min later you are last with a large gap, what is the point continuing.

Also, I didn't say all drivers are dirty. There are clearly people who just want to race as well, but in my experience so far, it is really difficult to find a single race where I don't end up in the gravel. All you need is one malicious or unskilled person to ruin your race. From the 10 or 12 race online I've done so far, I think only 2 were clean where I can say I really enjoyed the experience. Most I was pushed off the track early. Maybe it was due to my good quali time and the fact that I ended up in top 5 at the beginning of each race. Maybe if I was starting from further afield my experience would be different. But it seems like being high up the grid in those lower groups makes you a prime target for people behind. It seems it's just easier to shove someone off the track rather than cleanly overtake them. I got to the point where I can't be bothered with online races any more as I seem to be getting down the DR field with each one. And yes, some of these incidents could be lack of skill where people accidentally bump me off the road, but some of them were so clear in the malicious intent that there is no doubt in my mind they were done on purpose. And since basically all you need to get your race ruined and your DR suffer is a single one of those in each race, the experience isn't fun any more.

The tracks changed yesterday, but since then all I've done is set quali time for race B and C. The current combos will be a mayhem I'm sure.

EDIT: done a few races round Mount Panorama and managed to get into DR C. So I'm DR C / SR S. Suddenly my quali time was only good enough for mid field, so I need to put a little bit time into improving it after xmas. In DR D lobby I got shoved a few times. First race in C was a disaster too. I was 6th, ended up last after someone decided I should have a closer look at a wall. Race after that was a disaster too, but that was entirely my fault, made a mistake ended up last, finished 11th.

The last race tonight in DR C was very enjoyable though. I had a close race with another driver. The track is very twisty and narrow, so there was a tiny bit of contact here and there, but nothing malicious. I ended up losing the battle and finished just outside the podium in 4th. The other driver was clearly better, but I managed to stay close and even overtook him once, only to make a mistake and fall back again. He got a penalty at the last lap and I caught up and tried for a desperate move in the last corner, but he shut the door on me and we ended up with a bit of contact, but nothing major. It was very enjoyable though. We both thanked each other after the race for a good fight. I find that when there are no other cars around and you find a good clean driver GT7 online can be quite good. I will try again after xmas.

I understand exactly what you're saying. Here's my recent complaint: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gran-turismo-world-series-discussion.419218/post-14529813.
I've come to the conclusion that online and offline racing can't be compared. Offline racing features gentle, vanilla drivers, who are also great professionals. Online racing features incredibly angry drivers, who often make mistakes. You just have to live with that; you're 100 times more careful online. I'm very happy when there's a driver on the track who's my speed, and we compete fairly and respectfully, but that really doesn't happen often. Perhaps you, like me, should forget about online rankings and switch to private online lobbies. I think they should be better in this regard?

Totally agree with all comments on this thread! It’s comforting to know I’m not alone regarding my experience and opinions on online racing! I feel vindicated 😅😅!!

I am a GT player since GT2, and since GT6 I’ve started playing seriously and less arcadey so to speak. And yes I am slow and have learned to accept it. During my best gaming days I was an FPS PC player with an excellent muscle memory developed by both PC and arcade fighting games (SF2, Samurai Shodown 1 thru 5, then finally with the SF versus series) so my reflexes were sharply tuned for that gameplay style and couldn’t translate that to GT’s standard controller mapping (X for gas, Square for brakes).

Then life came hard and between work, family and other things my gaming lifestyle stalled and only played strictly casual. I’ve always played GT but never took racing seriously due to maybe having those issues mentioned before.

Now in GT7 I’ve tried to make myself better and also drive as I would if I were street racing which still remains my only real life racing experience (not that I sponsor it but we all had our own stint at least once in our lives, admit it! 😅). And yet my reflexes went downhill and I no longer have the reaction time needed to progress my skill. So I ve accepted that my natural talent lies somewhere else and I’m ok with that (just like many elite athletes have that natural ability that allows them to easily get to the top).

I am currently DR:D and SR:A mainly because here at home my power service is the worst and had power failures all thru 2025 which have disconnected me from the few times I tried my hand online and of course it gets identified as me rage quitting so dropped from S to A. But now in 2026 my goal is to reach C maybe B now that I am at a point in my life I can afford time and dedication to make it happen. Already moved to the PSVR2 and what a fantastic experience it has been, and now I’ve ordered my first ever wheel setup to rewire my gameplay skills.

But I’m not on a rush to make it happen. I just want to get better and be the best at whatever level my ceiling is while also having the best fun possible as well.

Slow but nice and proud!!

Private lobbies can be really great, just need to find a bunch of similarly minded folks, time slots where you can meet and from there on, go !
