I'd be careful though, you don't want it to go off, it's not in good condition, I'd take the bullets out of it and take it to the local police station.

Looks like a single shot breech loader carbine. Cheap, crude but it gets the job done. The job of killing farm animals, that is. Looks like it could be a .45-70. but I cannot tell without the round out of the chamber.

Hang it on your wall.

Agreed.
I wouldn't worry about taking it to the police station, it was most likely used to kill vermin or scare away any animals that were a threat to the animals. If your able too, unload it, but only if your able to in a safe manner.
Remember, if it involves a hammer or screw driver, its not a safe manner. After that, you can do whatever you want with it, clean it up or leave it weather and hang it on your wall in your room.

Congrats on the nice find by the way. 👍

That looks old! Do a little research, as it might turn out to be valuable. Flintlock even? I've never seen one though. If it is valuable you should probably bring it to a pro to clean it up.

Put it on eBay under

'RARE: Gun that shot J.F.K! NR"

And watch the money roll in....

Brilliant.

Because otherwise, you'll only get about fifty bucks for it. The rifle, although not a collectible, is not without its charm and can maybe go for more. I would buy it and hang it on my wall if I say it in a shop someplace. But, I'm not sure how many "western" theme lovers are in Norway.

i would just take out the bullets and take it so some antique store and see where it goes from there 👍

I'd keep it and maybe even try firing it :D

That's a nice find, Pink.

Whatever you do, don't go firing it. If the barrel's rusted out, it could frag out the side or something.

Sound advice... the most you can gain from keeping a loaded and aging gun in your possession is an interesting adornment for your mantlepiece - but the alternative possibilities don't bear thinking about. You may not end up injuring yourself or someone else, but the best bet is to make it safe as soon as possible (even if that means calling in the experts i.e. the police or similarly trained people) to eliminate the possibility that someone is hurt or even killed by accident.

Well, the loop is very rusted and it seems like both sides (were you put the bullet in and were it fires out) are sealed off with a bullet on each side..

I was planning to fix it up but I don't feel like having a blown-off arm :grumpy:

It's a beauty though, I'm gonna take more close-up shots today :D

Take it to a gunsmith, and see if he can at least unload it. If it's possible to return it to firing condition, he'd be able to tell you, as well. I wouldn't do anything with it, personally, a loaded gun that old could be pretty dangerous. (Although the powder/primer in the cartridge is probably pretty degraded, it probably wouldnt fire even if you wanted it to.

Without better pictures It's hard to say wether it's a Breech Loader or Lever Action. A breech loader wouldn't have a place to put any cartridges other than breaking the barrell open and loading directly into the chamber. A lever action would have a place on the right side of the reciever where you could shove cartridges inside. Or, I think some of the really old ones even loaded in from the buttstock.

DO NOT try to fire that(while holding it at least.) If anything, tie it to a tree(very securely) and attach a long string to the trigger and shoot it that way, while your behind some cover or another tree. But I really wouldn't even do that.

Take it to a Gunsmith see if he/she can clean it up and unload it. Depending on what the Gunsmith says, keep it/sell it/throw it away.

It looks like a old winchester, I guess its chambered in 45-70 or 45-90 or even 12 gauge, but dont count on that.

However, iam very sure that its a breech loader, a single shot locking block gun.

It looks very damaged and I think it wont work again. DO NOT FIRE THAT THING; with that rust on it it could explode sending some nice metal pieces right in your face!

It looks very damaged, take it to the next police station, it doesnt look very old ( I guess 50 years) and it could be a piece of evidence of homicide or something like that.
Noboday throws a rifle away without any reason .....

It would be quite dangerous to attempt fire it. The barrel or other parts may be weakened by corosion and weathering (and suseptible to fragmenting when fired), the barrel itself may be clogged, and the ammo itself is hazardous. Explosives can become quite unstable/unpredictable when degraded. They could be lit on fire and still not explode. Or they could go off just by dropping them on the floor. Bottom line is, be careful handling the thing, and be VERY careful in unloading it.

I have a small container of german 8mm mauser milsurp cartridges here (extremely cheap), dated back to 1943, they shoot very fine.
Nothing is corroded, the cartridges are sealed and absolutely airtight. Heck, you could even shoot ammo from 1900....

Please make a picture of the cartridges.
