I give up, just not good enough

I'm surprised this event has been giving some folks a bit of trouble. I went through the event the other night, and the only time I fell back is due to a stupid mistake, though I was easily able to recover the lead.

I highly suggest throwing on God Mode (Skid Recovery) if you're having trouble, & keep practicing with the car. This car requires very precise throttle, brake, & steering movement, which is not an easy feat for the controller-folks, as I understand it. The first race at Fuji is even worse because even with the SKF on, the back will try to come around on the very last turns where you need very fluid braking input to keep it under control.

Also be sure to never try to cut a corner too close unless you're 100% you can do it without issue. Grass is the biggest enemy of this car; at the Monza race, I let the car's front left tire dig into the grass right as I beginning to brake for the chicane, and it immediately dogged to the right nearly throwing me into the barrier.

those 20 laps on each track scare me. this is the only event I haven't completed (or golded except historic cup) in A-spec and I'll need to carve out 2 or 3 hours from a day sometime.

First, make sure you're on Racing Soft tires.

Can't remember which assists I turned on, but I do remember using the setups in this thread: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=142091 They worked great.

Other than that, it's a matter of braking late into corners and generally just trying to look for corners you can go through a little faster each time. If you have a bad lap (slower than your previous laps by 2 seconds or more), pause for a bit and regain your composure.

WARNING: Race 3 was a huge thorn in my balls. You'll need to concentrate for that one. Best advice I can give for that race is to try to get out in front early. The track is super narrow, so the CPUs can't pass you and get way out in front.

Good luck!

Side note: If you can make it to the Nurburgring GP Race, use it as a breather after 2-3 laps; the AI will almost always spin out at the last chicane.

Done FGT in first time i sitted today , All championship in fist time , its not so hard just use all assists and automatic gear change :)

There's a great shortcut there too, if you're fed up with racing. :D You can cut right across the field before that sharp chicane and hit the track at full speed coming off the grass since it's a nice straight bit. Watch out for CPU drivers that have spun in your path!

You'll lap a lot of drivers doing that.

One more piece of advice: If you can, try to find corners that you can coast through instead of braking. I've found I always go faster through corners if I'm able to simply let off the throttle and turn in early as opposed to braking.

I think you're having the same problem I was. I was using the bumper cam which gives you a rear view mirror and I would focus too much on the cars behind me, get nervous and not pay enough attention to the road ahead.

I started using the roof cam and since I no longer had the rear view mirror, I totally forgot about how close the competition was and finally got first on all tracks.

I use a DualShock 3 controller, by the way.

The only way I was able to finish a couple of these(Nurb and the last one) was to pause the game every few laps and take small breaks. As you said you can hold the lead for a few laps these races really are just about maintaining intense concentration at all times.

It can also be a matter of pure luck, I managed to never hit rain when I did the championship, and thank God tire wear isn't enabled or I would've been totally screwed the way I threw that car around the track.

I couldnt handle the FGT in gt4 either, I guess I'll take take a breather on every straight on almost every lap of every track. Still got a few more a spec levels to go b4 I get to attempt it though.

I hate this event too. Just seems crazy but I won't stop trying until I get it.eventually ill just wake up one day and lap these suckers. If bob can I can.

Same, never bother completing it in GT4. Tried it a couple of days ago and I gave up.

I got Gold in every race...first try (except the first race which I restarted 4 or 5 times). At Monza I screwed up the first chicane at the start and fell back to last place. From there I tried to be patient and was in first by the 10th lap.

All I did was lower the car, turn traction control to 2 (I usually use 1 or 0) and turn on the skid recovery (oh, and soft racing tires). For Sazuka I had to turn traction control to 3 because it was raining...but a rain race is good because you can see it's raining before starting the race so you just go and put on rain tires...the AI's drive a lap before pitting and CHANGING to rain tires so you get handed a nice lead.

The key is not putting a wheel off the track and being patient. The races are 20 laps long. By the time you're in the second half of the race you will be good enough with the car and the specific track to be fast enough to win. Once you're in first place you can dictate the pace...to some extent.

You probably will not get a huge lead on those open wheelers...unless it rains.

mess with the gears to get more top speed, break late and be gentle with the throtle when exiting corners - I manage to gold it on the first try with abs -1 and TCS -1 all other aids off - finished last in monaco and suzuka but still managed gold in the other 4 races and the championship and Im not a very good virtual racer to be honest (even spun out a couple of times in indianapolis and germany)

Finally gold on the first race, first lap of Indy was horrible. Guess I need to do each race individually before I try the championship as a whole.

Good thing I have the week off.

If it's available, just use Skid Recovery Force. It's a new addition to the GT series and, unlike TCS or the other aids, it actually ADDS grip rather than slows your car down. It makes a mockery of some tracks, especially rally, and given that it can cut 4 seconds off an average 2minute lap probably shouldn't have been included in GT5...

Race the track not the drivers. I know it's horribly cliche but it's true. If you set up your car fine and find the good racing line you will be fine.

I found the minute I started to worry about my competitors I would mess up, just focus on hitting those marks.

Sounds like you get nervous if you don't have a huge lead on the opponent. Relax and focus on keeping a consistent pace while in first place and you will win.

Especially considering that the A.I. is dumb. (lol)

I was in the same position as the OP, stressed over not being able to handle the FGT. But I have a few hints and tips for everyone since I completed this yesterday. First, the championship version of the races are easier than the separate versions because of strong boosting.

I used a lot of assists because lets face it, this is not easy. set Traction control to 5, skid recovery on, ABS to 5 and drive with a automatic tranny. It seems the game flips the gears fairly fast for this car, so your not really losing much time due to the auto. This makes concentrating on the race much easier.

You have to practice and get used to this car first, as it is different than anything else. It is very figidity and overly sensitive. Also, it tends to lose control if you brake and turn simultaneously. The technique here is to brake straight, and basically coast through the turn. With the above aids on, the car does not spin out when accelerating.

Because the boosting in this series is so strong, you will never really get a lead where you can calm down a little. You will make mistakes, trust me, and not just small ones, big ones, but do NOT give up on the race. The boosting will help you. I spun out at Monza on the 17th lap, got back to first (from last) by the beginning of the 19th. I spun 3 times at Nurburgring, and still managed to win the race. The leading car will usually go cold, and they are easy to catch.

Go with full down force, and usually set the trans to about 240 MPH. Soft tires are obvious. Good luck. Any further questions?

Wasn't really nervous, just found I didn't know the track well enough, would slip up and get bumped. Switching to the other camera view w/o the mirror has helped a ton, though, so maybe I was watching them too close.

The third track sucks, though.

Is simple, pass It by tuning the car,and then adding TCS,I find it pretty easy but if you need some advice,I will say that you should do a full tuning service, adjust downforce, toe angles,cambers,etc...

I didn't do anything of that but if you tune really well that F1 car you can make it go like the F2007,is just a matter of adjusting the car.

And on an aside note:
this thread should be moved to the GT5 Q & A section

I haven't started FGT Championship yet until I have enough time to finish it all once and for all, however, once I bought a FGT I took it to Dream Car Championship .. and guess what .. I had the same issues which I encounter in F1 2010 like when you brake hard and a tight corner and then while turning you lose control and unable to restore it .. just exactly the same.

Maybe you should play with the car tuning option till you get a nice one .. otherwise you might need to practice even more.

Man, this is the last race of A-Spec .. the rest is endurance which is .. kinda optional to finish completely .. well that's for me!

Unless I missed it, no one stated to make sure you don't let the AI draft you. If they are you'll never pull away.

Listening to all this i think I'm screwed...Im an alright driver but i just got the FGT and a new Driving Force GT wheel that im still getting used to and this is the next Championship for me :S... looks like im going to need to take to the track a few times to get used to the car and wheel :/

It really does seem some times that PD wants us to use the assists. Turn them on, I walk away at about a second a lap at Indy, a track I have loads of knowledge of from GP4. Considering my fastest lap was a 1.07.34 there, I'd say that is about right. And I'm not a slow guy, I have my 60 license golds and nearly all the Spec Events golded to boot.

It feels like the AI has way more power. I beat them in the corners even without the assists, but onto the straights they just rocket away.

I feel dirty for "cheating", but if PD is more or less going to say "Hahaha" to honest driving, I think not.

Monaco - I made a mistake in the lead. I followed the AI, doing 1:16s or so. I take the lead, I start doing 1:13.8's, but only pull .5 a second a lap. Really, because I'm faster he's now nearly 2 seconds a lap faster? Great rubber banding, love it.

Good point. On the long straights get off of the racing line. Occasionally the car behind you will follow you off line but most times not.

RAIN is your friend. If it rains (I've said this before) you can change your tire choice before the race (perhaps add more downforce), your opponents will all pit after lap 1 so you get a big lead.
- If there is another race left in the series, BEFORE you start the race change your tires FROM the rain tires (yes, they're still on your car) TO racing soft. AGAIN, your opponents will all be on rain tires and will pit after the first lap, handing you another big lead.

I tried the championship rite away, got 3 gold,2 silver, and rank 12 in suzuka, since my concentration and strength already gone and eyes went blurry =___=; Since I use DS3, I set the FGT to rather understeer, yet set the front brake to 7, rear to 3, making it easier to brake and turn.

You are almost certainly overdriving the car from the sounds of it. Just smooth it out, brake a little earlier, and concentrate on your line.

I just had a MAJOR facepalm moment yesterday. I got through to the end of Nurburgring GP with 3 wins and 1 second place. Thinking that the championship was a 5 race series and that i was 100 points ahead of the second place driver in the standings, I hit the quit button before the start of monza thinking that the game would exit the 'race' but lo and behold, I was kicked to the FGT A-Spec screen. I looked at the screen for a long hard minute. Nearly 2 hours of racing in vain, besides there was another race after monza which was on suzuka. This is the last series I need to complete to finish all events upto extreme a-spec. :banghead:
