1. install
2. boot up hdloader and enable 3
3. eject (dont swap!) and insert original
4. start game,

most of the game is loaded from hdd

Your ps2 is a japanese one? If not with which modchip you've installed on it
You installed GT4 from a computer or using the Hdloader software, if from a computer with which software?

Mmm i'm confused about the first voice "istall", how do you do it?
Do you boot with the psone cd in the tray and then after enable 3 you put in the gt4 dvd right?

Still waiting for a fix that makes it load from hd directly.

Reminds me of what Dino Crisis did on a modded PSone. New modchips were needed and I think there was a patch.

I have become spoiled by hdloader times and its ease of use, I have also just lost an xbox to laser problems so I am anal about laser use, I hope a fix comes soon.

It only loads a few movies and I think the main menu from the disc. In overall the loading times are shorter and faster!
I installed over network the chinese internet image, but the disc image should work the same.
I have a pal non-modded ps2.

I used hdl_dumb for network install

doh..I cant find a way to put it to HD Loader off disc. Got my Jpn copy today and wish I had just bought a Jpn PS2 to go with it. I have a modded PS2 and HD Loader

You did the image from the GT4 DVD (with which program? dvd decrypter i guess)
Installed it with hdl_dumb enabled mode3
Loaded HDloader and on the menu swaped the hdloader cd with the GT4 dvd
That's it?

yeah, Dino Crisis was jacked up, I think you needed a game shark to play it also.

Mode 3 enables the cd/dvd to spin, most likely to find certain files that is required. This is very old in the PC scene, wheras if you have a pirate copy, the game won't load unless - a) you have a original disc or b) 'patched'.

The groundbreaking news here is that he was able to play an import via a un-modded PAL PS2, saving the hassle of buying a NTSC-J PS2.

so if you know the files.. HDloader is looking for.. you could put this files on a dvd so the games wil find it.. and it should work.. right?

maybe you can also just put the GT4 Prologue DVD in your PS2.. if he only looks for an origional disk..

bosx2, do you need to flatten the iso image before copying it to hdd? because afaik the iso is still in dual layer format

I really hope this works. I tried this the other day because I noticed when you select the game in HDLoader it starts looking for the disk. I don't think I used the option 3 when I did it though. I ripped the image using DVDdecrypter and copied it from PC using HDHandiness. I can't check till later tonight. Hopefully someone can verify this.

did you install it on the HDD straight from HDLoader or did you get the image in your PC, & then install from WinHiip or something?

1: get the game image (warez or legit rip from the original disc)
2: put image on HD (over network, or winhiip or whatever)
3: boot up ps2 hdloader
4: swap hdloader cd with REAL gt4 dvd (use flip top or slider card)
5: boot GT4 from hdloader menu

am i missing anything?

what about burnning the dvd9 iso to a dvd5 dvd.. just layer1, would this be enough to start the game the way bosx2 did??

maybe the game only needs some start up information from layer 1 (i hope)

the game looks for things on both layers apparently, thats what the big huge problem is with the isos
