Are you saying any contact period? Or no intensional contact? Because after all mistakes are always made.

I can't speak for iamsupernasty... But I'm pretty sure iamsupernasty has made some unintentional contact in a race at some point. *cough-cough* lol
I don't think he's claiming to be perfect.

No one is saying there's never going to be accidents in clean races. Well of course it happens by accident sometimes... a little bump & rub.
But catastrophic car contact should be rather seldom.

But in the event of an incident of hard contact, I think the important thing is that if it's an accident, you follow the contact concession rules ON THE TRACK DURING THE RACE...
It says a lot more than after-race sorrys & excuses, or hearing "sorry sorry sorry" over the mic.
If you hit someone by accident, let them ahead of you. And that's likely to soothe any ruffled feathers, and it's usually case-closed. People forget about it, & they don't hold grudges.

That said, repeated avoidable car contact... Someone should smarten up after the 3rd time they rear end someone after drafting them to the corner. I mean you have to draw the line somewhere. It's not an accident if it's a usual part of your driving style!!

Forgive me for being blunt, Basilea... But I think your goal might be the problem, not the rules.

I think in order to become a clean fast competitive driver, you need practice in clean, competitive races.
To get this experience, without getting kicked or unwelcome - just be CAUTIOUS. YES, you will LOSE mostly at first. But you will gain experience on how to be that clean & strict and also be competitive & fast.

I think some people's problem is that they are impatient... They want to win so badly, that they can't imagine how to do it cleanly.
Well, like everyone else... You need to start by LOSING cleanly, before you can learn to win cleanly!

This is typical of any competitive past time. You need to start at the bottom.
If your pride prevents that, then yes, you will be stuck in dirty sloppy pub lobbies.

This is what I have come to believe.
And why I think it is such a shame if people snub newbies... or ridicule slow drivers. I, for one, applaud clean driving newbies who sacrifice their speed to drive cleanly.
And I hope I continue to say that after I'm not one of them! ;)

(I realize I have an advantage over some people on this forum on this count, in that I am not in possession of a fragile male ego. LOL ;))

You're 100% right! Still it is a bit of a vicious circle! I don't have a problem with loosing and have already lost "countless" races, sure I'd rather win, but who doesn't ;) some rooms have just no goodwill, but that's every hosts decision...

So, a better online system wouldn't harm the game and the online lobby at all! Maybe a level system where you go up the more you drive, taking into account how you drive, e.g. a fair race ranking of some sort :D. Don't you think this would be a good idea?

Well anyways, I have to start driving online more frequently and try to find good rooms! That also isn't easy! Room name implies road cars 450 PP clean driving only and the first you see is a 787B crashing a X1... hahaha

Your best bet is in Shuffle rooms. Make sure they do NOT have boost on.
If boost is ON - especially if boost is high - then the room will NOT be clean - no matter what.

The nice thing about shuffle racing is that if the ratio is set to about 2-4, it should level the playing field between slower & faster drivers... and all can be competitive, while being clean. Because it's based on your finishing position in the last race. If the shuffle ratio is 2-4 (or higher), and you come in last, for the next race, you will be given a car that is a little faster.

Keep kicking!

Obviously you have never raced in real life nor do you understand how racing in real life works. I haven't lost my position until you are completely clear of me. If you make it up to my driver's position before the turn in point, you have earned the right to that racing line, inside or outside and each driver is obligated to leave enough room for the other so there is no contact. You are not entitled to the entire width of the corner. Most tracks and corners are wide enough to allow side by side racing and in a corner where it is not wide enough the onus is on the following driver not to attempt a pass there.

Sounds to me like what you really lack is the skill to control your car in a high pressure situation and that you can't race inside someone without letting your car drift out and hitting them. The solution for that is practice. When I practice for a race or just run laps I don't always run the racing line. I run inside and outside on all the likely passing corners to see what the grip is like there. You can go wide in turn one for example at Laguna and maintain speed if that is all the lead driver allows you as is his right to do.

If everyone read and understood the GTPlanet Racing Rules we'd all have a much more enjoyable experience.

I actually have a full racing license and I race regularly, and I never said anywhere I'd drift out and hit them, as I've stated, I will not make contact. I'm sure most people will have seen the Formula 1 last weekend, there were one or two times when at the bottom hairpin, someone would push their line, and the other driver you're saying has the right was pushed out onto the run-off section, I don't see them being black flagged and brought in for drive through penalties for that... Yeah it's an aggressive overtaking move, but if you want a leisurely Sunday drive with the flat cap brigade, then fair enough, but if you want something where you have to keep your lines defended, then don't complain when I make a move up your inside when you leave the door wide open. Or outside for that matter.

If you're using Formula 1 as an example of an organization that is fair and equitable and follows it's own rules then...well..lol.

I don't have any problem with anyone passing anywhere on the track, inside, outside or wherever, so long as they do it clean, and observe the GTPlanet rules of racing. If your front bumper is barely ahead of my rear bumper at the turn in point, you should give way, you haven't earned the right to your lane in that corner. If you get clear of me at any point from corner turn in onwards, you have the track and can drive wherever you like. Anything in between,we both have equal rights to the portion of the track we happen to be racing on.

That's not aggressive driving or the flatcap brigade, that's racing and that's how it works.

You know that we are a minor group of people, reading a forum about the game. 90% get the game and race! They race clean or not, but most certainly not after the GTP rules.

You, my friend, are a great example of the few remaining legit racers on GT5. Those are all great reasons to give someone the boot. Props to you sir for finally taking a stand against noobs and trolls that infect GT5's multiplayer.

Kudos to KnuckleDuster! 👍

He runs his lobby like a true 'professional' and doesn't put up with any nonsense. I respect and agree with all of the reasons he gave for kicking people from his lobbies. And my hat is off to him that he has the will and drive to continue. I actually gave up racing in public lobbies more than a year ago, long before GT5 was released. I'll occasionally lurk in spectator mode but after many months of lurking and hours of watching, I found less than a handful of lobbies that I thought worth joining.

The sad truth of the matter, is that here on GTPlanet, we're really in the minority. Most console gamers out there could care less about racing etiquette, or proper lines or braking points or even rules in general. Even the majority of those on GTPlanet, don't really bother to follow the strict OLR rules outside of official GTP sponsored events. And you're left with a free-for-all where most of time, anything goes. Which ends up being rather frustrating if you're looking for truly clean and competitive racing.

I know there's a big rallying cry from users who want to see a return to a player matching on-line system. And for those who are just 'casual' racers who want to be able to find a quick, easy race, any time, day or night, I can appreciate where they're coming from. But I for one, will likely never use it.

There's a certain irony in the fact, that had I never ventured into public lobbies, I never would have been able to meet with the nearly 100, fast, fair, courteous and conscientious online racers who are now on my friend list. And I wouldn't be able to hold the kind of online events in private lobbies that I do. But having hosted online races with full lobbies of like minded racers, lasting up to 2 hours long, I can't see ever going back to public rooms again.

The ahead driver IS entitled to be slower or use longer and earlier braking zones than others. They are also entitled to turn in earlier or later and/or apex earlier or later.

I'm sorry, but this "rule" is ****ing retarded. What if my car tuning doesnt allow me the same speeds on straights/exits but allows me to brake later? do i need to wait until the car in front pulls over?

Is out braking somebody not considered a move? A legit move? and if not why not?

Why is this so difficult to understand? You can brake wherever you want to there are no rules against outbraking someone. If you reach the driver's position in the lead vehicle before turning in, you're entitled to your lane, inside/outside in the corner. If you don't reach that point, you should give way and the lead driver has the entire width of the track to drive on. If you pass someone completely before the turn in point, you have earned the entire track to do with as you wish.

It's pretty simple.

It's a grey area thats usually put down to a 'racing incident'. If you outbrake someone into a tight corner you cannot actually say who is in front as driver 1 may appear to be ahead visually but driver 2 on the inside will have track position (they have a shorter line through the turn).

The first driver should be allowed to choose their line, but if you outbreak them into the turn you can force them wide (not off the track/into a wall) providing you don't make contact. That's racing. 'Rubbing' isn't racing nor is following in a procession.

Out braking someone isn't a racing incident - it's racing.

If they hold station on the outside, I'm not putting them in the dirt, you don't have too - you have the better, faster line, and will almost always clear them, unless they have a much faster (in a straight line) car, or you screwed up and gave it too much gas and spun the tires up, or braked too late and go wide.

Racing side by side is always in indication that the person you're racing with knows what they're doing, and I appreciate it. I have had the person in front leave the door open, only to come in on me as I'm beside them - and that is 100% on them. You left it open, I took the gap, you can't just change your mind in the middle - I'll do my best not to hit them, but on the track, there is only so much room - if you put YOURSELF in the dirt by turning into me because you weren't paying attention, didn't expect it, or just plain don't like being passed, don't come crying to me after the race.

It's not a legit move if you punt the leading car off the track, rear-end them at the turn, ride them through the turn, use them as a brake, or shove the other car to do it.
If you do that, it's a contact incident. And if you made contact because of a highly risky move - it's NOT an accident.

Slamming into someone when you dive in with late braking is what's retarded.

If you can do it cleanly, then sure brake when is good for you & pass and get into the turn before the other car...
Problem is, most people are not able to do this cleanly... Because in reality, they THINK they can brake later, but they really can't, they're just diving into the inside with late braking & riding the other cars through the turn because that works out in Aspec, and the AIs will never complain about it.
But if you do it in an online race, and hit someone "by accident" - nobody's going to listen to your accident excuses when you made such a risky maneuver. If you drive reckless - it's not an accident - you're just sloppy.

I really don't care how these rules pertain to real life racing... Because online racing in gt5 will NEVER be like real racing... Because in GT5 there is NO RISK of crashing a REAL (& expensive) actual car... there's no risk of bodily harm to the drivers... So online racing in gt5 will ALWAYS have more risk-taking. If you can't wind up in the hospital or the grave, it's not really comparable to real life racing.

couldn't agree more:tup:

when i set a room with all the systems OFF at nurb, somebody joining in an after about 6 to 9 turns the leaving on thir own:)

ps
hate when going to a corner and somebody bumping in to my ass 160km/h and pushing me out:/ <---- that's not the way to do it !!! try to drive it like in a real life !!

Reading your response Punch opens up an avenue to a partial solution at least. If it cost virtual money to repair your car after a shunt, whether penalties are on or not, then it might stop some people from racing online altogether because they can't afford to or might make them more cautious. Yes, lots of people can rubber band grind away the money if they want but lots don't. If it cost say $200k to fix up my GT500 car after a coming together, even just the thought of spending that money, even if it's not real, would help deter me.

I've mused before that an online ranking system will kill online racing and I do not look forward to Polyphony implementing that. If you think it's bad now, imagine when guys are fighting for and concerned with their overall ranking on the net. It'll be total chaos.

Wrong car is just a stupid reason to kick peoples for.

I absolutely disagree. If the room is titled, for example, "60-70s US Muscle" and some troublemaker jumps in his FGT, X1 or Enzo (which I have seen happen many, many times), it's obvious that they aren't interested in following the rules set forth by the host (or the wishes of any of the other racers in the room) and is only joining to be a nuisance. The host could be nice and warn them to change cars, but I wouldn't think badly of him or her if they didn't. If it's been a particularly bad session for that type of thing, I might not warn them before kicking them. I try to be fair and only kick players in the most extreme of circumstances, but it's your responsibility as host to protect the integrity of your room as well as the racers in it who want to race their old muscle cars or 475 pp ff cars or whatever the room has been labeled.

Anyway, I agree with the OP. If you want to keep the "best" drivers in your room, and by that I mean the ones who follow the rules of the room as well as good racing etiquette, you MUST kick those who would disrupt with stupidity or just a plain ol' lack of class.

Just my 2 cents. Good for you, KnuckleDuster.

Hi guys,

Loads of people get agravated when they get kicked, fact is most people are STUPID.

Let me explain, when im in a room and since GT5 is a SIM, you should play it like one if not go/create a kinder garden room. Maybe im getting old and whitout patient or intolerant, but to me this game should be played like you would if you were in real life.

Reasons why i (or friend that usually hosts to) kick all the time:

-Wrong cars (even tho you type and say what cars elegible, like class race, etc. Dont need to be a genious, i go in Finland room where i dont undestand a word i see everybody in road car i´m not going to choose a Calsonic.)
-Exiting pits (if you leave pit you have 2 see if someone is coming in flying lap and let him pass, not going to ruin his lap. Theres a map with icons reckon not hat hard)
-Cutting on Qualifying (cheating is sad in all ways, and sadly you get no penalties in qualifying. Trial Mountain and Nur GP/F are good example)
-Not waiting (bumping someone or loosing control can happen, but if so and you get advantage you have to wait for driver you overtooke or put in gravel. Theres something called gentleman driving, besides fact in real life would get black flag)
-Dirty driving (using others to do corners, bumping faster drivers, overtaking in stupid places causing accidents, etc. God i wich IA/penalties were way better even in online gaming)

Besides other obvious reasons of not respecing people, country discrimination, etc, those reasons listed are more then enough to get kicked, i want to play with fast and clean drivers.

People who don´t like/agree, thats the beauty of it...loads of servers out there where they can play.

Tc all and nice races M8s.
Gran Turismo 5 is a VIDEO GAME OKAY, stop taking it so seriously.
You are one of many reasons why GT5 online is not a good place.
What a prick

Some of us enjoy taking it seriously. Those who don't take it seriously, make it no fun for us.

Conclusion:

If your not serious, stay in the rooms that don't say "Clean", or "Real Racing", etc...

That way those of us who like to race clean can, and those that lenjoy racing like newbs, can also do so.

Are you saying any contact period? Or no intensional contact? Because after all mistakes are always made.

I'm saying no intentional contact... But beyond that, I'm also saying that it's often the responsibility drivers to slow down more than they want too, or take a line they don't like, in order to avoid contact. I'm not suggesting that anyone who touches another car should be banned - stuff happens...

Basically what I am saying is that being a clean and fast racer is about more than not hitting cars on purpose - it's about purposely trying to not hit other cars.

👍👍👍👍

Lack of patience is the problem for many sloppy drivers, IMHO.

They don't have the patience to wait for a clean passing opportunity.
They don't have the patience to practice.
They don't have the patience to allow that sometimes it's just not going to be possible for them to have a shot at coming in 1st in every race.

Thanks for the support of all that "feel" the same way about the game as i do. 👍
And all that want to add me you are more than welcome, at the end you are the people i want to race with.

As for tedwu100, thank you so much mate for your reply , you just proved my point on showing the kind of players as yourself that i'm runnin away from.

Good races all.

What I don't get is in free lobbies.

You pull out your Fiat 500 (old one), and you suddenly become a target. Just WTF?

Best part is if I'm hosting a lobby. "Touch me one more time and enjoy your long vacation" and USUALLY most of them back off or "attept" to "accidentally" hit me when I'm running around the track. If they don't..."so and so has been kicked". Heck, I've been yelled at because *somehow* being a virgin relates to video games. I just lolled and went on my way.

I have always tried to be clean, and many times at the cost of being a winner. I race with a group over at gbracingclub.co.uk. We all strive to be clean. We do have some drivers that are less clean. These are people that try to win at the first corner, and then every corner after that but they are slowly learning. I was a little bit like that when I first started to play Prologue, but have improved my race craft over time. I am not perfect and am liable to get it wrong from time to time. We ran an event yesterday, and after starting at the back of the grid due to a reverse grid order, I was proud of overtaking everyone cleanly up until 3rd when I binned it. I then had to overtake everyone again. I then had a great battle with a GTP'er from lap 9 to 16, the racing was so close, I may as well been attached to a tow bar at his rear as that was how close it was. We exchaned positions a few times but he got me in the end. I was really proud of myself for being so clean, with such close racing. A really good feeling.

And Knuckle, it was great racing you last night, although I hardly saw you in most races as you would just clear off into the distance. When I was close up and personal, you were very clean, it was a pleasure.

Pleasure was all mine PAPPA, you are mega fast and clean mate.

And thank you and the other clan members, to allow me racing with you guys.
