Your only option is i.Link. When you i.Link your only car options are arcade cars.

There are LOTS of threads on this already. Search around (:

Any news or rumors on whether or not you can use your own cars for i.Link in GT4? Or if i.Link will be in GT4 at all?

In fact, the iLink has been removed from newer generations of PS2. Yep, Sony opted to junk that in favor of the On-line ability. A sad move, but we'll see how connectivity works when GT4 comes out.

To hook up 2PS2s you will only need an I-link wire.
To hook up more than 2 PS2s then you will also need a hub and different wires.
The wires hook to the front of your PS2 in that little tiny hole at the bottom left front of the PS2. It should show an I-link pic next to the hole. Hope that helps before the other not so friendlly members reply. :)

For iLinking up 2 PS2s, you need a 4-4 firewire cable. You should be able to find one for about 10 bucks at most (though depending on what length you want).

For iLinking up 3 or more PS2s, you need a firewire HUB. Cheapest are those with 6 pin HUBs (also more solid than the small 4 pin connections, get them for as little as 40 bucks if you search well enough). For each PS2 you want to attach, you'll then also need a 6-4 firewire cable. This solution can of course also be used for 2 PS2s.

You are limited to driving the Arcade cars in iLink mode. But for multiplayer games it still rocks. In 10 days I go to one of the biggest iLink event ever, the RPC (IV) in Bochum, Germany, with possibly over 50 people attending. A month later, there is a big event in Lyons, France. I'm thinking about going there, but it's a lot further away, so I'm still thinking about it. ;)

I've attended about 10 iLink parties now I think, many of which I've organised myself. I have two iLink HUBs at home, as I also discovered that you can hook up 8 PS2s for one game - two of the 8 will then be like track/replay cams with which you can watch (and record if you attach it to VCR, DVD-R or PC) the race as if you were watching a replay. It's absolutely awesome especially if you can find some other drivers that are close to your level.

Perfect reply Arwin,
Here are pics to back him up.
6pin on left(goes into hub if you have over 2 PS2's)-- 4 pin on right(goes into PS2)

Here is a 6 port hub.

I have a 6 port hub and 4 wires and if anyone is interrested they are for sale. PM me if you want them.
edit: The 6 port hub that I have is not the one that I have pictured above.

Whoa! that's really weak. So now we'll be forced to wait for the online segment of GT4 that's coming in 2005.

Man, I was hoping it would be there and you could just use your garage cars. With no connectivity, GT4 suddenly seems much less appealing. :grumpy:

I believe the option to i.Link will still be included in GT4. It would seem a waste to take it out. Also, you will be able to link via the network adaptor. After purchasing that hardware, it's much cheaper than i.Linking, as the cables and hubs are all less than half the price. And most people have it all already.

when u guys play ilink do the ps2 start to lag? cuz for me its lagged so much that we just give up. it might be because we're not using a sony ilink im just using a normal fire wire i bought on ebay... can anyone help?
