its got the heavy duty option package, and a 5 speed

4.10 gears, heavy duty front suspension, gvwr 8500+ lbs

this baby was made to rip stumps outta the ground, and you better beleive shes gonna get a work out.

im lookin at wheels and tires right now. some nice 33's

Why stop there? Double those tires, get some old 5-ton planetary Axles and springs and make money at county fairs. X3

I have to say, after watching numerous vids on youtube of the 7.3 powerstrokes I can definitely see the appeal. Of course, I'm not sure I would have swapped a Trans Am for one, but I'm sure the Ford is fun in it's own way.

Indeed, those things are wild... But thirsty.

Today's HD engines all have over 600 lb-ft from the factory. Slap some simple electronic tuners on them and you can gain a hundred or more horses and bazillions of torques instantly. And make it adjustable on the fly. The big diesel trucks here in the States are gaining ground on those Nissan Patrols from the desert pretty darn quick.

Considering the size of American diesels... it'd be disgraceful if they didn't have the potential... More sophisticated direct injection systems are making over 110 ft.lbs per liter stock...

That's not to say the power isn't impressive. When they say there's no replacement for displacement... that's simply half the story... what they mean is... there's no replacement for displacement plus boost... :D

Of course, it would be nice if they could get these things to rev a little higher... you may not make much power at 5000 rpm in a diesel, but the ability to rev that high (hmmm... think it was a Nissan Frontier that I last drove that could do that...) greatly increases in-gear flexibility...

However, as I've said before... one of the biggest keys to getting power out of these things is injection timing. Without that, you're just shoving more and more fuel at the engine to get power, with diminishing returns.

I just had my injectors rebuilt to stage 1's with new seals.

I just need to figure out 1 little bug, and it'll be back on the road. I dont plan on doing much but saving for the next couple months. but next on the list are boost guage, egt guage, and a downpipe.

I also dont understand the trade from the Trans Am to the Ford truck. Maybe he lives in a northern climate with lots of snow??? Thats really the only way it makes sense to me. Or maybe his new business requres the use of a truck?? The TA is such a wonderful and fun car. Please explain unless I already missed it.

i live in chicago. plus I know a lot about diesel motors, and wanted a reliable daily driver.

i think i have had more fun in my truck in the first 4 months of me owning it, then I did the whole year I had the trans am. bangin gears and hearin that turbo spool puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

Not reliable? Unless you take terrible care of your F-body it can be one of the most reliable cars on the road. Mine lasted over 250k miles.

Small block Chevy motors are about the only thing GM really ever did right in terms of reliability.

Especially in the late 90's-current.:yuck:

(although they are nowhere near as bad a Chrysler)

Well, the small block GM V8 of any year is pretty reliable. Unless the words "crossfire" or "optispark" are attached to them.

F body small block not reliable?? Again this thread just simply confused the heck out of me. :dunce: Chicago does have bad winters so that part makes sense to own a truck over the TA.
Oh well as long as you are having fun thats all that counts.

i didnt say the trans am wasnt reliable. I never ever had any issues with that car. it was great, (except the trans was starting to slip when i sold it) LOL

i am saying i didnt want to trade such a nice car for a beater. so I had to get somthing reliable to replace my reliable car.

trans am had stainless long tube headers, and magnaflow exhaust with no cats. some other little mods.

I sold this, and bought this.. 👍

1997 4x4 powerstroke diesel 5 speed 135k miles 4.10 gears and the offroad package.

so far, i have done a custom intake, chopped the exhaust off after the down pipe, did a resistor mod to add about 40 HP.

plan on doing a 3" downpipe with a single stack, and some nice 33" tires this spring. plan on blacking the truck out. black grille, wheels, cab lights, tinits, and a black stack.

should look pretty awesome. by the end of 2010, it should be makin about 320-350 RWHP, and torque over 600 ft/lbs at the wheels
As the owner of a kick-ass 6.0 Ford diesel truck I have to say, "NICE!"

The only thing I don't like about mine is the inability to go thru a drive thru and actually order with the engine running.

The 7.3 has a lot of potential. Before I long I figure you'll have a crazy number of Diesel Power magazines lying around givin you wild ideas.

Enjoy your truck.👍

lol, too late i have been a subscriber to diesel power a year before i even got the truck LOL

orignally i wanted a 12 valve with a 5 speed, but they are just too hard to find, and if you do, its either beat down, or really expensive. oh well. this is just about the next best thing. (the f350 has a much better front axle)

it just occured to me that i never showed you guys my new wheels and tires! heres pics.

the wheels are MB razor wheels. I had them blasted and custom powder coated black 30% gloss. its stronger finish then pure flat.

i also just ordered my new air intake setup, and 2 inch front lift kit to level the truck out. I will post pics when those parts are on. BTW, i got a factory white tailgate too. the old plastic 5th wheel one fell while driving LOL

Nice truck, I may be getting a 86 sometime this week(hopefully)

Sweet, gotta love the black wheels, looks heaps meaner that way.

Did the same thing to my Toyota Hilux, albeit 32's with black rims.

took these pics today, figure I'd give yall an update. this new clutch should hold 800+ ft lbs, and goin on at the same time are front add a leafs to lift the front, and 3" downpipe.

LSX
Then do this :D.

I don't see anything right about this video but the time on the clock run. Everything else just looks wrong about the whole idea. Pickups where design for something else not this. If running 13 sec. in the quarter mile on the cheap is the goal. Then just run a street bike. I don't see how spewing black smoke makes it cool. It just makes it look more like a big "FAIL" to me.:dopey::dunce:

It's the redneck equivalent to body kits and stickers. I don't exactly see the point either.

if you never been in a truck that can blow smoke like that....you wouldnt understand. its awesome to just put a $400 chip in your truck and pick up 150 hp.

the experience of driving a big powerful, loud diesel like these is awesome. best thing is....cops aint gonna pull you over if your diesel is too loud hahaha. ive flown past so many cops screamin at 3000 rpm, striaight piped, and bangin gears, and they dont even care lol.

And Evos were designed to carry four golfers and their golf bags. When does drag racing or track racing anything but a bespoke race car make any sense?

Of course, the black smoke is an artefact of prehistoric air-fuel tuning... but hey... it works...

I'm rather baffled over the purchase, but hey, it looks clean!

Actually I'd be embarassed to be seen in a desiel like that. If I wanted a big poweful desiel I would drive a big rig. If I wanted a fast desiel maybe the Audi R8 desiel. All this spewing of black smoke is like an ego thing. HEY! Look at me. But if I wanted to go 4x4 and go off roading then I might get a pickup. But then again maybe an SUV. So that leaves the pickup for just hauling or towing a trailer for a real dragster.

Why not have a big, powerful, and fast diesel for a quarter to half the cost of a big rig or Audi R8? And wouldn't having an R8 also be an ego thing?

I was reffering to the black smoke. Any car that you drive with pride is an ego thing. But showing off to people that is questionable like the black smoke is what I was pointing out to be a 👎 :dopey::dunce::crazy::sick::indiff:

I don't know what you guys are fighting about. I'd take an R8 and a diesel that shoots smoke, I love it all :dopey:, especially the smoke.

No fight here. Just a difference of opinions thats all. It is, after all a forum right?
