Years ago I saw a fast 100 series Landcruiser (diesel) in Japan going up against Silvias. Skylines, Stegeas, Supras etc, it was quick with tons of black smoke. It was so different to everything else there, I loved it.

You're beating you're head against the wall, and any standard family car will wipe the floor with it unless you start dumping thousands into it, at which point, it would still be a hell of a lot faster if it were a car.

So what's the point of modifying any car/truck/vehicle then?

Why bother doing a 4AGE swap on an old AE86 when a modern Corolla will still be faster? Why bother buying a car and fixing it up when you could spend less money buying a solid, working, reliable car? Why bother modifying a Cobalt SS when you can just buy a Corvette which will be faster?

The guy isnt, "beating his head against the wall" for more speed. He just wants his truck to go faster. What's so wrong with that?

It's all about preference. People want a little more of this or a little more of that when driving. If the whole point was just getting from A to B in the shortest amount of time possible, we'd all be driving Ariel Atoms.

And that's half the fun. Running the 100 meter dash in under twelve seconds is cool but hardly astounding. Running it in ten seconds in flip flops and carrying a pig on your back is a right challenge.

i use my truck for truck stuff not for going fast. the dana 60 swap is for the front axle. it is replacing the twin traction beam piece of garbage front suspension for a solid axle.


i know my truck is never gonna be fast. its stick shift, and this heavy duty trans physically cant shift very fast. i try though LOL. its got 4.10 gears so screamin the motor out in top gear will MAYBE get me to 100 mph.

see if any car can run the the mud pits I have, or rip the trees outta the ground i have, or pull trailers like i have. THATS why i bought this truck. to do fun truck stuff.






oh, and if you think 800+ ft lbs of torque isnt gonna move this thing from a 40 or 50 roll.....ur thinkin wrong boy.

Besides, some people are just truck people, like you are clearly a car person. You want your Viper, he wants his F350 King Ranch dually. You want blistering speed, he wants more than enough speed to get you in trouble with a lot of practicality.

And then since he uses it for work too, everything makes sense


RE: TTB - I'd love to swap mine to 4WD with a solid axle just to save the alignment troubles. It's not exactly the best idea... at least it works though

I finished the Dana 60 axle swap. i put on new ball joints, tie rod, drag link, calipers, pads, rotors, and repacked the bearings.

next im installing my new ring and pinion, axle rebuild kit and my axle shafts with new u joints.

YES.....it was a expensive project hahaha

I've heard a lot of claims about it, yet the fastest I've seen with the claimed mods was in the 15 second range. And they blow so much black smoke they look broken.
And it's got nothing to do with "can it haul ass" in any sense, the point is, if you want speed, a truck's the wrong way to go about it.
If you want a payload, or towing, a car's the wrong way to go about it.
If you want doors and a roof, a bike's the wrong way to go about it.

I could customize the Buick and install leaf spring suspension, beef up the frame, and if I really wanted, install truck bed instead of the trunk, and tow things, and fill up the bed, but why? I could just buy a truck.

800 ft-lbs at what rpm? At 1000 rpm that's a whopping 143 HP. At 2000 rpm, 285 HP
At 5600 RPM, 800 HP. Being a diesel, it's probably the first option.
There was a thread on that before, how HP is the driving force at the wheels, torque is the power of a single stroke, HP is how we determine how much driving force at the wheels is present, being a calculation of torque multiplied by rpm, etc.
Having a high torque rating just means you have a good powerband.
