Seriously why is GT always based on comparisons to Forza? Why can't we evaluate it on it's own merrits? It's the biggest and baddeset and best right? Well when you are the biggeset and baddest and best you don't have to rely on rationlizing yourself against the competition... you stand your own merits and deal with your own faults.
Well, this is why I'm playing GT4 and Prologue, and my 360 is still disassembled after Christmas.
I still like Forza, despite the fact that each game comes complete with a bug farm in it. I'm sort of a little looking forward to Forza 4, but sort of a little not, mostly because Microsoft just can't or won't take the time to squash the bugs in whatever they produce. I mean, look at the 360, deliberately released in faulty form for two years on an unsuspecting public - to the tune of an up to
seventy percent failure rate! This isn't just shoddy company policy, this is criminal. But it seems to be MS's business model: "Let them eat bugs."
I'd like to paint up some more cars in FW3, but then I think of the horror movie ordeal to take images and go through the time consuming gauntlet to post mucked up versions to Photobucket. So I don't.
Look at the USB port in the front of the PS2 and 3, and how nicely a USB drive fits into it. At how easy it is to save images and videos to it. Walk over to the PC, insert, and load. A minute later, up on the net for all to see. And no loss of quality in the process.
Look at the Logitech wheel connected to my PS2. Then PS3. Then PC. And working flawlessly. And then at a flimsy Forcefeedback Wheel made for Fprza 3, which my first one broke within a few weeks. Which is useless for anything but the 360.
Microsoft just refuses to be consumer friendly. It means more money when you make a load of proprietary stuff people have to buy or do without. But it starts clouding your thinking. And it makes fans of their stuff put up with a lot of crap that no one else would tolerate.
I can't help that Kaz made this decision. It wasn't his idea to make GT PSP first, it was SONY's. It meant a huge delay in GT5 progress that in my view wasn't warranted, and undoubtedly in Kaz's view as well. He looked very upset holding that PSP at last year's E3. But I think the choice to port over the Standard cars was the right one. I didn't want GT5 to have 200 some odd cars. I was one of those who proposed way back in 2005 that they produce a GT4 HD. A few of us loved the idea, a few more didn't. I'm sure Kaz was keeping an eye on our conversation.
Okay, now we have both in one game. You have 200 some odd Premium cars that look astounding. You have 800 plus more cars that still look darn good. You have physics which attain the level of a PC sim. You have a scad load of tracks to race on. You have a crazy cool online system. You have daytime transition. You have things that haven't even been revealed yet.
The choice of whether or not this is awesome, if the game is worth it, is is up to you, but I've made my decision on that.
