Thanks to http://www.fast-autos.net for the pics!

looks like a suped up Jaguar.. why does it have mufflers if it's a racecar?

it needs something like this

Who?

Britain is known as the hub of racecar design. Count the F1 teams. How many are British? There are also foreign F1 teams based in Britain because the infrastructure is there to get parts quickly.

Indycars were built in Britain for years. Lola and Reynard for example.

Whoever said that is talking out of his a***.

BTW Nice car

But it's only a concept. It's not a real car yet (if ever).

True, but the increased back pressure isn't desireable to racing. The problem that it causes is horsepower lack.
The 5.0l V8 should sort that out...

What 5.0l V8? It's a 3.0l V6...

But the point toyomatt is making is that in a racing series, all cars engines are roughly equal, and if you've got a muffler and your competitors don't then you will have a horsepower deficit.

So it does!
I didn't really look at the link much, but my friend told me about the car. 5 LITRES INDEED!

The 3.0l V6 has 231bhp. I would think that as that is only a concept that they haven't touched the engine.

Correct. Most race tracks can only run unsilenced cars on a set number of days per year. That can be as low as 3, just to let cars like F1 or ChampCar in for specific events. For all other races, the cars are required to run with a degree of silencing.

But you have to have some backpressure for the longevity of the valve-train.
If the race is fairly short, then no mufflers are fine, But if you're running a series of races and the same engine must be used, you'll need some muffling to keep the valves from burning up.

It does have a V8 engine, and more info can be found in the link below. :)
That's a very different car.

Jaguar-X-Type-at-presentati.jpg

This one has a V8, the one in the first post has a V6.

No it doesn't!

As far as I'm concerned, what we see here is a riced out Jaguar. The mufflers and the small engine are proof of that.

'Cos it's in the rules of that series (whatever series it is) that cars have to 4 door versions, or they have to have a minimum wheelbase or whatever.

Once you take out the interior, electrics, air con etc. you have a light car. Pretty much every car makes it down to the minimum weight limit for whatever racing series it's in.

And Takumi, since when is 3.0l small? It might be small in the US but it's well above average for the rest of the world.

Well, there are two reasons:
Firstly, if the car is heavily constructed, the race conversion can use a smaller roll cage to offset the weight, using the car's natural strength. Also, a lot of what goes into making a Jaguar heavy is all the luxury kit, which the race conversion would place neatly in the nearest bin. (as Daan pointed out)

Secondly, in the case of the SCV8 car, it's actually got nothing at all to do with the construction of the car. SCV8 is a Silhouette racing series where original body panels are attached to a tubular spaceframe chassis which also has a stock engine in it.
