Why a '73? By that time the power numbers were falling without an end in sight, the earlier models having a bit more power due to the higher compression ratios. But even then, they are all extremely rare models to begin with, so good luck finding one for anywhere near "cheap" or "affordable."

Heres an idea:

Wait a year and pick up a used 2007 Volkswagen Eos 2.0T with the 6-speed manual. Hopefully the residual will be somewhat decent on the car, but you could expect to pay just north of $20K not too far down the road...

Though my choice...

Ball shrinkingly pathetic.

You take that back!

It looks pathetic, granted, but it's great fun, doesn't cost the earth and will return good mpg. Also, reliability shouldn't be an issue.

But at a $20k (ÂŁ14k) I'd go for a 2001 BMW M3 Convertible in Carbon Black.

Didn't think you could get a 2001 M3 for that money :wow:

But remember this, you have to sit in it for a minute or two at idle while the turbo cools down. Those will be the most embarrasing 2 minutes in the life of a hetrosexual male.

I suppose those heterosexual males two minutes would be better spent convincing themselves they're not gay.

But then, if they've driven it...

Come off it you aint getting anywhere near a E46 M3 for 14 grand. That auction will soon rocket in price. You would struggle to geta decent E36 M3 for that money.

I can dream...

Might I suggest for Sir, a Clio V6 in that blue that Clio V6's must be in, with £2k left for a throatier exhaust system?

Edit: Sorry for double post, I meant to add this on to the previous one.

I <3 Renaults. I only with I could import one into this stupid f#^*^@g country....

Whoever said they'd get an E46 for 14,000 USD, your either on Crack, or I'm moving to wherever that is because with 60,000 miles on the odometer, the car is worth 29-35 usd. New they are $60,000.

For a start, Danny thought he could get one for ÂŁUK14K. Not everything is in dollars

Hey Evan, I've challenged myself to find an E46 M3 for less than £14k.

Could take a while,

AHEM...watch it, bub. for your information, i just happen to BE gay. and I'm as much of a car freak as the rest of ya.

Woah, sorry. Didn't intend to cause offence.
I certainly wasn't implying that gay people are less into cars, I was discussing that since the teeny little drop-tops are associated with women drivers (to me, anyway) then a man driving it would look effeminate. Especially when they don't fit in properly...

Once, again, I apologise, Sniffs
You could probably find one. A cat D E46 M3 though.

I saw a pretty banged up salvage M3 for over £2k more than the budget. Ouch.:ouch:

Could take a while,

Maybe in a few more years you'd find one for that price, but they seem to start at about £20k, well I did a nationwide search on autotrader and it was £20k upwards. Although I have a feeling that allot of them are being sold when the warranty has expired so you pick up a lovely massive service bill from bmw. Actually i'm probably wrong, don't bmw's have bumper to bumper warranties?

If I had 14k i'd probably look around for an R32 GT-R for about £9k and then spend the change on bits and bobs for it. Or i'd get a used Elise, or maybe Griffith 500. Bah I could think of a tonne of cars to buy for around that much, but i'd probably end up getting a very late revision MR2 turbo and then spending the rest of the cash on a 3S-GTE swap for my current one. Because i'm pretty stupid.

Although to be honest the weather never gets bad enough here to have summer only cars, or even have to use winter/snowtyres.

A Griffith is a Spring car, fact. Because by the time the good weather comes round it's generated faults and won't run. :p

You might be able to find the Engine for 14k but I don't think you'll find the whole car, Danny. When will someone invent Scraptrader.co.uk?

Because with what people would try to flog, you may as well knock the S off the name.

Ho, for my NZ$40K I'd buy a minter facelift Nissan Silvia S14 and another MX5, but an 1800 Mk1.
The Mazda for sunny days and the Silvia for rainy days :D.
And my remaining money (probably $15K or so) would go into modifying them e.g. coilovers for both, Koya Drifteks for the S14 and some nicely dished BBS's for the Mazda.
