okay whenever I make a post sometimes i would hit the preview post by accident, after that I click submit new thread and IE would crash. anyone else get this?

What exactly do you mean by crash? What happens?

I strongly suggest against using IE for the time being, and this isn't because I'm pro GNU and open-source. IE's having some serious security flaws with how it will automatically download javascripts that can install backdoors on your system and install password spiders and trackers. I strongly suggest something along the lines of Mozilla Firefox, freely available at http://www.mozilla.org for browsing the web. It's safer and doesn't seem to have the vulnerabilities that people are explioiting IE for. Plus, Firefox renders a lot more quickley, and doesn't use up nearly as much memory as IE, meaning your system runs more smoothly than when you're running IE. I've been having trouble with FireFox0.9 though, so I recommend 0.8, as I find it more stable. Oh, did I mention it has a popup-blocker in it?

I can second Firefox. I only just started using it and I've noticed a marked improvement.

I'm personally having no problems with the newest version though.

I had that happening when I used IE for a brief time yesterday, my IE would freeze and give me a " Report to Microsoft " window. It all stopped after switching back to Mozilla Firefox. I think it happened after I enabled all the banner ad blocker's in my ZoneAlarm Pro.

Well it would freeze and then that Report to MS window would pop up. This never happened before until gtplanet was changed. It doesn't happen all the time and I think the last time it crapped out on me I had a lot of IE windows opened.

I've seen that same thing a couple of times.. Hit the Submit button, and the IE crashes with a "Send to Microshaft" messagebox... Silly thing is that whatever crappy message I'd just written would still be posted...

And I can only third the Firefox recommendation... It truly rocks 👍 And it'll co-exist with IE if anything doesn't work. Eg. my Homebanking doesn't work in Firefox, but for those occations I can always fire up IE...

...and you can chalk me up as a recent convert to Mozilla, too. Tabs within windows is a fantastic feature, and the pop-up blocker and manager is fantastic.,

I'm glad i'm not the only one who's been having IE problems and i'm happy it's not due to GTP. Pretty much happens once a day. Hate to add another pro Modzilla comment here (as i can't stand threads where people complain about IE and the only suggestions offered are "get Modzilla"), but get Modzilla ;) Will check out Firebox .8, am running something normal atm.

Mozilla Firefox is really that great. It's now Mozilla Firefox 0.9. In the past week I've experienced 0 problems with Mozilla.

Don't forget about optional themeing. :)

I am addicted to the tabbed browsing. I have it set up so that whenever I do the middle mouse click (Click using the wheel) it opens the link in a new tab. Whenever I use IE, I'm lost now, because it doesn't do anything other than scroll when I do the middle mouse....

I'm trying FireFox, too, ATM. Is there a way to set the scroll sensitivity in FireFox, though? It's 2/3s slower than IE.

There is.

In Firefox 0.9 do the following.

  • Click TOOLS on the menu on the top.
  • Then click OPTIONS when the Tools dragdown appears.
  • Then when the menu opens click on the last tab called Advanced.
  • Then find the Browsing category on the Advanced Menu.
  • Un-Check Smooth Scrolling if that box is checked.
  • Then check the box above " Use Auto-Scrolling "

Same with me.

for the url, type in "about:config" without the quotes, then find the line that reads "browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" and make sure the value is set to "true", then type in "middlemouse" in the Filter line, and change the first two options to false and make sure the last two are set to true.

I have been experiencing this to over the last few days.
Using IE And XP

It can happen at any time when you click something on the board.
Mostly it happens when i click the NEW tab or when im in a thread and click the level back title at the top of the thread to get back to the thread list (I found it happens much less when i use back arrow instead).

After clicking the link the new page goes to open, you get the first Done message in the bottom left of the window, at which point it usually starts listing up the loading elements, but the Windows report error box appears, at which point when you proceed it closes IE completely.

IE crashs everytime I make a new thread some times. Even sometimes after I post.

Atleast its not as bad as AOL...

^What he said.

I'm downloading the SP1 in the hope this'll fix it. The only common denominator thus far is that GTP has been open in one of the windows at the time. It's happened twice in the 5 minutes I've been connected today.

I have been getting the same kind of problem. On Thursday I was unable to enter any threads.
I have been trying to persuade my dad to allow me to install Mozilla, but he is so paranoid when it comes to down loading stuff. It isn't like my computer can get anyless reliable/virus prone/completely and utterly useless.

[EDIT[ It just crashed as I was entering the DBR9 thread. If I complain to my dad about it he will just ban me from GTP.

Show your dad how screwed up IE is, and what Mozilla has to offer, show him it's got a built in popup blocker, and everything.

Screw that, just tell him about how much more productive it is with its form savers, tabbed browsing, and quicker renders.

I've had this increasingly over the past 2 weeks & it only happens whilst on GTP & I've got SP1 :(

I'm starting to wonder whether its the ad banners thats causing it, either than or a critical bug in v bulletin/IE or perhaps as someone suggested the Zone Alarm pop-up blocker which I've got. Guess I'll give Firefox a go, but even IE shouldn't be this bad ;) Just hope i can import my favourties etc... (last time I used Netscape (several years ago) it was crap).
