If you could unlock all cars would you?

If there was a code that allowed you to unlock all the cars so you can use any car you want for a race would you use it?

I would. I'm at the Historic Race and I would love to run that race with those cool classic race cars but I don't own any. Sometimes I will use a car that I don't like or that is overpowered because it's the only car I have that meets the race restriction and I don't want to spend the money.

GT5, Forza, Test Drive Unlimited and most car games have the same paradigm (earn credits and buy cars). But when you have hundreds of cars and some cars being relatively expensive it seems the system can get in the way of you playing with the cars you want to play with.

What do you think? Is it important for cars to have a sense of "value" where expensive cars take a lot of effort to possess or is it better to have a sense of freedom to enjoy hundreds of cars?

no

A great part of this game for me is buying cars that I want to drive. It wouldn't be as fun if I didn't have to earn any of them :P

Also, I haven't even touched arcade mode at all, so that's not a big deal for me.

In arcade mode yes. But in GT Life, not really because I want to earn everything myself

No. What reason could I possibly have to own 37 different Miatas?

Now if there was some code I could use to get that $%^ Nardo... In a second.

In arcade mode? HELL YES
A-spec? No, it would ruin the game. It's life will go way down.

For me it would make A-Spec better because I could use any car I wanted for the race. I could redo the same race with different cars.

For example, I don't have a race car for the Gran Turismo All Stars so I'll probably use the FGT which is way overpowered.

I see your point about replayability but I don't think being forced to redo races to earn credits just to get the car you want to play with is a good kind of replayability. Replayability should be motivated by the games fun factor and challenge.

nope, quite enjoying the game and 'earning' the cars I wish to win/purchase... although the seasonal challenges make it a bit easier :sly:

This is what makes GT5 fun. Earn a crap car by winning races is more satisfying than redeem codes to unlock all cars.

The Volkswagon Nardo concept? Looks kinda like a Saleen?

I just passed one up in the UCD. Didn't look that impressive.

No, it really wasn't that hard to accumulate creds and cars. Even a little easier now with the seasonal jump start. An unlock cars code would diminish an already slim Aspec experience.

I had all the cars in GTPSP so when I am in arcade mode I basically have all the cars already unlocked.

But you can only choose 100 cars at a time.

That is stupid

No.

One of the most fun parts of the game for me now (especially that I'm a high level and I have any car I would need to "complete" the game) is to hit the UCD after every race and see what kind of cars come up especially ones I want or that I just find interesting.

For example this afternoon I picked up a Mazda 6 Touring car, tuned up the suspension a bit and I have been having a blast all night racing it online. Some others I bought just to have and maybe screw with later like the Subaru 22b, Lamborghini Countach 25th anniversary, and a few others. Or even better I grab cars I used to own IRL like the 87 Buick GNX (I had a GN but close enough).

It really is one of the best parts of the game. And it would be ruined by having everything unlocked.

No.

However, I do wish some of the cars are obtainable during the early game. The historic race cars, as you said. Even though the Countach is capable of winning the race, it looks so out of place among the GT40s.

The Miura too, a car that gave my Bob so much headache in the early B-spec game.

NO.

Not owning EVERY car in the game allows the player to personalize what belongs to their garage. This is one of the aspect that makes it special.

I watched Charlie Brooker's Games Wipe last year some time, and it was pointed out on there how games do seem to be unique in that they deny you content (that you've paid for already) if you're not good enough or don't have enough time to reach later levels.

I find it hard to reconcile wanting a structured game to play through, with the frustration that it may take weeks, months or more to be able to sample some of the shiny and interesting looking stuff that's dangled in front of you early on.

So far I quite like the way I feel I've earned the cars in my virtual garage, but I don't know how long that will last. Give it a couple of months and that unlock code might start to look very tempting...

I would definitely not do it. If I wanted to choose a specific car that isn't on my Favorites list, I'd have to use the filter. It's alright if it's only one time but after doing it a dozen times, it starts to get annoying.

I already completed all events (endurance excluded) and am at a point, where I just drive for fun and try new cars.

But I don´t want all in my garage but be able to choose, which one I take. Don´t need crappy family vans in my garage.

And I would unlock a Monster Truck and smash the X1

I don't mind cars costing credits and being level locked. What I hate is being elegible to a car by level and credits, and then having it NOT pop up in the damn useless UCD in weeks!

I earned my rights to a car I've wanted and then can't get it? That's just wrong.

Half the fun of the game is managing to save-up enough money to buy one of your dream cars you saw in the Dealership when you first started the game. Remember when you got the game and saw all those "unobtainable" cars but slowly, as the game progresses, manage to be able to finally buy them?

Plus this way you have to use some of the more "boring" cars to progress, but half the joy of GT is getting standard road-car and being surprised how great it can be and then tuning it up to be something special. If everything was unlocked from the start people would just jump to the supercars and miss out on the whole aspect of GT.

It seems that some people nowadays want instant gratification and are denying themselves the pleasure of anticipation and subsequent reward that comes through patience. GT is a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the ride and stop worrying about getting to the end.

This is no different to any game though surely? Play Call of Duty - you don't get to the end level without playing through all the previous levels first. Not good enough or don't have the time to get to the end level, you'll never get to play it.

Biggest difference to me with GT5 is that the carrot is often dangled in front of you - you can browse through the dealerships and see those cars you want but can't get - this is (part of) the motivation to keep playing the game in my opinion.

I just wish there were more cars available at any one time in the UCD, like in GT4.

GT is a journey, not a destination.

GT5 is like travelling along a very long, straight motorway with a 50mph speed limit. Replaying races would be ok if they offered any kind of competition, and I don't mean me picking an underpowered car to make it a challenge.
