Already? Seems you put a lot of time in the game and you got your money’s worth.
This mentality has been bugging me. This isn't directly aimed at you
@Bricks50. I'm just using this comment to for the discussion.
People who bought the game are relying on 20 years of history and the expectations that brings.
Like, when GT says there are 200 new cars, it means 200+ a bunch of the previous ones. Buying the game and playing for 40 hours doesn't equal "you're money's worth" when it's this game. GT5 had one 24hour event, so if the game were just endurance events, would you have gotten "your money's worth"? You're buying content and in this case it isn't there.
It's been eating at me for a while now and I believe it's eating at others, but this game seems not only incomplete, but in it's infancy, and
unintentionally so.
Sure, gamers often say a game is "not finished" because there's bugs or something. But with GT Sport, I think unfinished is just scratching the surface. I think GT was canned for a while, completely and utterly cancelled. Then, at some point between 2013 and the beginning of the Beta, someone changed their mind. I'm thinking that it was only months before the Beta. I think all this talk about an intentional staggered release approach is a giant lie.
Here's the evidence that I am pointing to (it may be circumstantial, I know, but it's food for thought).
Oddball Licensing:
HRE wheels - There's a decal for these wheels, but no wheels. Seems odd.
Work wheels - We have the wheels, but no decal. Again, seems odd.
LeMans - LeMans is all over the Scapes, but there is no in-game version even though the last two games had the track.
The cars - Ok, I realize that in the Scapes, the cars look amazing. But in game, they aren't shockingly better than the GT5/GT6 cars. In GT5, you couldn't use the standard cars in the Scapes. The same could have been done this time around where the GT5/6 hi-res cars were unavailable for scapes. Yes,
this thread shows how great the cars look in the photo mode, but on track, I just don't see the difference. I am talking about the launch cars specifically. It's almost as if they didn't have the licensing for the GT5/6 cars because it somehow lapsed, and now, they are trying to regain it. The VGT's are really the smoking gun here. I don't believe the VGT's are remodeled, and if they are, why would THEY be the cars to remodel before any others?
The Online Save
In GT5, we discovered that the car's configuration could be tampered with in the save file. We could also hack the cars to give ourselves the limited edition cars (the cars people had to do something special for, like the Chrome Editions). For GT6, they solved this by not having anymore special editions other than the 15th Anniversary Cars. Seems like a terrible way to solve the problem, but I can see that maybe it was the only option. Now, the proper solution is here. Online saves creates a DRM type of situation so that limited cars can be re-instituted. However, there are none. The only limited car in the entire game is the GT-R Pace Car. That's it.
One car. It's the only car that cannot be obtained through either a dealership or the mileage exchange. The kicker? You can't use it anywhere because it's GR.X.
Isn't that bizarre to anyone?
Single Player
I do not believe that single player is a reaction to upset gamers, but I do agree that it's SUPER sparse. No championships? Weird. Not being ready for launch? Super weird. And for a game called "Sport"...ummmm....no Sport? There is one endurance race and that's it. No Gr.3 events? No Gr 4 events? No Rally events? Sure, there's challenges, but that really isn't the same thing.
Now, we've come to expect bad AI. GT6 single player was worse that GT5 and that was worse the 4. But the thing it, GTS actually has good AI in it IF you happen to trigger it (try the midship event to see what I mean). So, someone went to the effort of making a big AI improvement, but the rest of the work seems to have been halted for some reason. It isn't showcased in any meaningful way. That's bizarre.
The VGT's
Remember the big deal that came when a new VGT was launched in GT6? Now, they're just there in the dealership...no big deal. Also, they are even more pointless. Other than the VGT's that were converted to Gr3/4 use, what's the point of a VGT? It's as if they had the license for these cars already, so it made an easy solution to a lack of content.
The Mileage Exchange
Where's the helmets and suits? I haven't seen anything new in months.
The Dailies
The dailies seem a little "Set it and forget it" to me. Especially, Race C. It's either GR.4 or GR.3. It's never anything else. Doesn't that strike anyone else as bizarre? How about some Supercar racing? Even one GR.B? I know people tend to not like the rally events, but wouldn't you expect one? Even on an asphalt track?
GR.B and GR.1
Where's the content to go along with these categories? Gr. B especially since there seems to be so much effort put into it. There are SO MANY CARS but no place to use them. No one finds that strange?
Player rank
You could argue that they are leaving it up to the community to make online events, but the tools really aren't there for that. I have my criticism of the DR/SR system, as many do, but we can't deny that players see it as a badge of honor. And, really, it's the only prestige a player can have. Your player level is meaningless. If I am player level 50, what does that mean from a game perspective? Nothing. What about that "Sapphire" badge? Nothing (yet?). With DR and SR being the defacto measure of a player, shouldn't there be a system for ranked events or simply MORE ranked events, or even a weekly special event? Something?
The Daily Workout
I have played almost everyday since launch, because there's an achievement and I get a car. These two things seem to not jive. They give away a car, potentially every day, and (for me at least) it's made it so that I can sell the cars that I have bought to recoup some cash. It's almost as if someone said "Won't people get bored quickly with this lack of content?" and the answer was "Yes, probably. Let's give away a car a day and maybe that will get us through to a time where we can release more content."
No release schedule and no-shows
Every quarter, we should have an idea of what is coming in the next quarter. We have no idea what is actually coming beyond a few clues. The team were taking photos of the Isle of Mann circuit, but no mention of it to be released. They take photos of SEMA cars, but no mention of release. There's press releases from years past about other SEMA cars "featuring in an upcoming Gran Turismo" but they aren't featured yet. (Specifically, the GoPro Camaro). Even the big update we got in December is really strange. The game itself SHOULD have been enough to carry it to Christmas, but they scheduled a new car pack followed by "big" update for the month of Christmas?
That Car's We've Gotten
You've followed me this far, so let me finish on this last thought. WTF is with the cars we got in the updates? A GR1 Audi, when there's no GR1 events? The Ford Raptor? Given the focus on Gr3 and Gr4, and given that they feed that to us daily, I would expect a new GR3 and GR4 car, wouldn't you? Yes, I think the Raptor is cool, but why decide on a Ford Raptor? Bugatti Doesn't have a GR3 car. Why is Toyota using a VGT instead of their GT3 LFA? How about SOMETHING that caters to what players are using most, because they game gives that to us the most. Again, very bizarre.
Each point is strange on it's own, but if you put them all together, it looks like the entire game has been cobbled together at the last minute to try and make a not only a Christmas release, but a release at all!! It's like they are picking up the pieces and they aren't doing it in any particular order.
Yes, I got entertainment value, but I haven't gotten my money's worth.
