Thanks for the tups, guys, and dittos to what mikeonthebike says.
I want to hasten to add that I don't sneer at supercars. I love mine too. I'm doing several runs with a modded F430 Scuderia in the online Ferrari race for credits and having a blast. I adore my Aston Martins, Ford GTs and Jaguars I've hopped up to 600-700hp and some to Stage 3 weight reduction. And of course there are all the real race cars, love 'em all. I'm not afraid of the Big Guns.
But there's a big reason why I enjoy the heck out of lower powered racing. With the high performance supercars and race cars, a single mistake can send you far back in the field, perhaps dead last, and cost you the race as you limp along way behind the pack. There are perhaps three or five of the most skilled and patient drivers way ahead of the pack in a 16 car field, and the rest in clumps or singly strung out behind, with the distances getting longer and longer as the race wears on.
With lower powered cars, the racing is usually close and competitive. A mistake might not cost you much of anything, or you could drop a few places, but then you can pick right up and see if you can make it up. With good racers, each car in an entire field can be separated by tenths of a second. When I'm fighting in a pack at fifth place to grab fourth and not get passed myself, and it goes on lap after lap with me hanging close to some guy's bumper while the one behind is doing the same thing to me, and little changes at the finish line, I don't care, it's AWESOME because the racing is so intense. Mean machines with several hundred horses are understandably fun to race, but this is why I like both ends of the spectrum, and everything in between.
I'd like to see the current cars get the RM version, starting with all FIA GT1/GT2/GT3/GT4 cars, followed by BTCC/WTCC cars, yes touring cars real under 2.5L touring cars!
By all means, THIS. I'm hoping as much as Kaz loves and is aware of all these racing leagues, that he does a big update to the Race Mod system, so we can make race cars for various leagues out of appropriate sports cars. And with at least a few livery templates this time, if not some sort of editor.
