I'm LV35 - How to get LV40 alone?

Level 34, starting the endurance, dreading the idea of tsukuba 9h and can't fathom 24h

by reading this crazy climb to 40, I don't think I'll have the time to do 24h until the coming update does something about this
 
Saves are for wussies! I'll be doing the race in a week and a half from now. By then I might be level 40 and will do both 24 hour races in that week since I'm on vacation.

Some of these guys sacrifice several YEARS to the game itself! That's not dedication, that's just a lack of a real life... :rolleyes:

Yeah, PD 'only' had to sacrafice 6 years to make the thing!:dopey: I'm calling that there will be a cadre of people who will sink that much time into actually playing it, too...

Im in the middle of Summer here average 30 degrees every day. After not even an hour of game play PS3 fans are flat out. It be enougher 2 or 3 months before I even think about the 24 hour races. At level 35 in Bspec but not going to fry PS3. Really needs a save option in pit stops incase of over heating
 
Update

I managed to complete the race in 35 hours (3pm Friday till 2am Sunday)
PS3 still working, I'm still going too :)

Quite enjoyed it, for the most part, apart from when the rain started eight hours in (quite a challenge in the dark :crazy:)

Not sure of exact timing, from memory, sun almost set five hours in and approx. nine hours of darkness.

Rounding Mulsanne corner and the run down to Indianapolis watching the changing sunset effect lap after lap was quite pleasurable :)
 
Yes, it starts around 4pm. I know what you mean by sunset/sunrise. That was just awesome during the race.

I'm currently getting Bob to do the final 24hr Nurburgring. The track looks amazing at night. I'm now A-Spec 38.9 so I hope to do the Ring myself in the next two weeks.

I'll probably do the same as when I did Le Sarthe .ie. 10/10/4 hours but my eyes were hanging out of my head after that. I used the Stealth Audi R10 TDI then and had over 10 laps up.

Looking at the AI times while Bob is doing the Ring has got me thinking.

The AI cars involved after 15:30 hours are:

100 laps Peugeot 905 Race Car 1992

The best laps are R10, BMW, 905, Zonda around 8:40 but that was the opening lap when their tyres are optimal without the extra time for a pit stop.

The best times I've seen them do during the race is R10 and 905 a bit under 9 minutes. They would be neck&neck but the peugeot always goes one lap too long so suffers for tyres.

I'm going to test some touring cars (instead of LeMans) to see if I can manage about 8:50/9:00 for 5 laps to get a close race and make it more exciting.

I used to get 6:45 to 6:55 regularly on the Norschliefe in the 2000 Falcon XR8 with a pad in GT4 so it'll be touch and go if the extra bit of GP track costs me two minutes. I can't wait to find out.
 
at LVL 25I did the 1st endurance race, around GrandValley, in the Lexus Racing Concept, and in all honesty, I will not seek to get to LVL 40 without a save game option. Even if I was to bring (a spare) PS3 to work, to play 1 hour a day at lunch, I know, that either the power will get interrupted on the 23rd hour , or the conference TV will not come back on from input change, or the janitor will take off with the PS3. I wouldn't blame him.

Besides, I feel the endurance races are like solitaire rounds, with no proper restrictions, I found myself having lapped the leader 6 times in my 60 laps.
 
honestly, to everyone complaining about the precense of 24 hour races.. you are idiots.. if you were a true fan of GT5 and understood what simulator meant, and also if you had attended any 24 hour race event in real life, you would understand that they wouldnt intend for you to complete it alone, more that you would invite friends/codrivers over to your house and compete in the event the way that every other race team around the world competes in 24 hour race events, as part of a team..

you cant pause and save a real life 24 hour race, so why in a racing simulator would you be able to save and exit the race in GT5??

i think the problem is that some people just must complain simply to be heard and agreed with/argued with..

suck it up, get a few friends together, shout dinner/drinks and take it in turns.. whoever has just raced can then go to sleep for 4 hours, wake up and party on with everyone else.. i did it twice in GT4, both times had an amazing experience with my friends..

PS i also have attended a real 24 hour race as my uncle is part of a race team here in Australia.. by the end of the race every member of the team (pit crew included) are extremely exhausted and mentally drained.. it is the way 24 hour racing is..

I did the LeMans 24hour with Audi R10 TDi. I enjoyed the race except it was too long.

I'm currently on holidays so I did 10/10/4 but I still sat at the finish line for the last half hour (I had enough laps ahead) because I was exhausted.

The thing is, it gives heaps of exp. but you'll need to do it another 10 times or so to get to 40. I've re-done other races and raced a fair bit online, but the exp. rewards are paltry. I have resorted to rubber-band grinding Indy on the dream car championship. Up to 38 and a half now.

I must be getting old because I did the Nurb25hr on GT4 about 5 times.

Is it me, or have people forgotten that in GT4, you could pull into the pits and let your B-spec driver take over for a bit. Not saying you've forgotten, but I swear the way people go on about 24hr races being easier in GT4/easy to complete multiple times in GT4 - this is the reason why.

They should totally bring back that system for A-Spec.

Maybe in your world friends will burn up their weekend playing a video game with no personal benefit to them, but not mine... I've got about 20 real-life friends with PS3, and guess how many play GT5? One (and that one is level 6 after two months, and all he wants from me is a free Formula car so he can race online)...

Maybe it's just an age thing, since we're all late 20s-mid 30s, but even if I wanted to, it is incredibly unreasonable to ask a friend to drop his weekend plan with the kids and spend Friday night through Saturday night being my relief driver in a game he doesn't even play...

And as an aside (this is not just about you; I've seen it in other threads), imo the whole "You can't do XXXX in a real race, so why should you be able to do it in GT5?" -talking point needs to die. I'm a racing fan, too and driving games have always made concessions for the sake of playability/memory/graphics/etc. This 'racing simulator' among other things doesn't have qualification or competent AI save for the alpha car, so it isn't too much asking PD for a little more middle ground...

No, I knew that :sly:, but it was 5 years ago, I feel like an old man now :indiff: I did GT4 24 hours by myself to get the A-Spec points. Then several more times to try and get more points with a weaker car.

There's no incentive (besides grinding to 40) to do the same on GT5, and I wouldn't anyway, because now I couldn't handle doing them more than once. So rubber-band grinding is a godsend if PD don't fix the XP and/or add a mid-enduro save during pit stops.
 
I don't think it will ever happen for me i can't take the time out my life to race a 24hr race. the most I play at one time is about 1-2 hrs who can do this at this rate. I use my PS3 for many other things.

Without a save i don't think normal peple can do this.
 
In real life you get a trophy, money, recognition, etc for winning/competing in 24h races

in the PS3, I just get a fat electric bill and an angry GF, so this whole "in real life you can't pause or save" BS is not arguable.

I'm sure when I finally decide to sit down and do a 24h endurance I will enjoy it to the last minute, but the PS3 will have to be on for at least 4 days for me, with the risk of power outages, pressing restart by mistake or someone turning the PS3 off while I'm away

a lot of us have to work, attend to our families, have sex and enjoy real life with real achievements.

If it makes you feel better then know that in the winter you are heating your home anyways so all the energy your PS3 is using helps heat your home.
For your GF just buy her some flowers. ;)
 
To add to my earlier post. I just took the Ford 2000 Falcon XR8 out for two time trial laps on arcade. I've had nearly a dozen beers and I still logged 8:20 and 8:15 around the Nurburgring24Hour (I bet I can get close to 8 mins flat sober).

This car is 1350kg, 630hp, top speed of 300km/h (no mods).

So when I watched Bob do some of the final endurance, the best cars in that group:

Audi R10 TDI Race Car 2006
BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car 1997
Peugeot 905 Race Car 1992

their best laps appeared to be a little under 9 minutes. Their BEST LAP (8:40) was the first one when their tyres are optimal without the extra time for a pit stop.

If you add fatigue/tyre wear/pitstops/rain into my lap times I think I'll end up with a close race that I'll likely win in a touring car vs their leMans cars. That should make the 24 hours a bit more exciting. I can't wait to try it in a week or so.
