No, no,
NO, it is not called a "ram air".
"Ram air" refers to Pontiac's name for having openable hood scoop inlets on the hood of the car. The scoops normally seen on almost all cars are fake, meant to mimic the real ones used on drag racing cars in the early days. During the late 60's, the major US manufacturers started making some of them operational; Pontiac's Ram Air I, II, III, and IV systems were just one method among many. Chevrolet actually used cowl induction, where the scoop opens at the rear, near the high-pressure area at the base of the windshield. Mopars were available with the "Air Grabber" system, where a section of the hood actually lifted up to function as a scoop.
None of that has anything to do with what's been screwed to the hood of that Bob-forsaken POS Civic.
What that is MEANT to be is the inlet half of a supercharger, or blower as they are commonly called. And if it were real, it would be mounted
to the engine, on top of a plenum box containing a belt-driven pump (there are several varieties; centrifugal "roots" type blowers, or screw-type among others).
However, that monstrosity opens with the hood, revealing a plain-jane V-tec valve cover (and who wants to lay money that the valvecover is the only thing on that car that actually has V-tec) with a J. C. Whitney-bought AEM "cold air" intake, which leads down to a cone filter near the inside of the right front fender. It is painfully clear that this "blower" (to those who couldn't tell from 50 feet away, half drunk, and with one eye closed) is FAKE FAKE FAKEITY FAKE.
Never mind the fact that a real blower for an overhead cam, inline engine wouldn't even be in that position on the car, since it needs to directly relate to the intake manifold, which on a 4cyl Honda is on the back side of the cylinder head.
I'm not sure who I want to see get screwed more: the idiot who built it, by having it sell for 1/2 of what it would be worth stock (and 1/10 of what he wasted building it), or the idiot who buys it. Actually, considering that no matter what it sells for will be way too much, the buyer is automatically screwing himself. So hopefully they'll both get the punishment they so richly deserve.
