Yes we're having some very weird weather here in Aus, fires in Victoria and floods in Queensland. We have nice weather here in SA but my thoughts are with those in Vic. It's almost other worldly and quite hard to comprehend. Worse then Ash Wednesday.

Sorry to hear about the fires in Vic. Latest news is 128 perished.

We received word today that one of the guys I work with house burnt down. He rushed home from work to find it gone, now all he has is the clothes on his back and his car. Couldn't of happened to a nicer guy :(

These fires are shocking. I just can't even imagine what it would be like to have a house burn down. I was watching Sunrise on 7 this morning and it is just devastating what is happening in Victoria with all the fires.

128 is a record for any Australian natural disaster.

Kind of shows the scale of it all.

Sorry to hear, Lets hope Aussies get together and start donating to the Vic Bushfire Relief Fund. (I have).

The really crappy and discusting thing about these fires, is that some of them were deliberately lit.

If they ever catch who did it, I would like to 🤬 **** **** ************ *****🤬

Yes within the past 60 odd years. However this list shows 8 other Natural disasters in Australia that outweigh this one.
List of Disasters in Aust.

I dont mean to be picky. It's just that the media is a little misleading at the moment.

And I certainly dont want to take away the horrible scale of this catastrophe.

Yeah. I really hate how some of these MASSIVE FIRES are deliberately lit. It's just bad to think that the person who lit it has killed many people and destroyed lots of peoples property. I agree with you.

And if they do catch them, They may be charged with Murder.

Well yeah, they've only killed well over 100 people!

latest reports put the toll at an expectant 230

I have also changed the Title of the thread in repsect for those in Victoria.

Maybe you should make it a bit more... descriptive.

Yeah, good idea. 230! Wow, this fire is a lot bigger than I thought. I can't believe how big it is. I wish everyone the best at this time who lives in Victoria. I remember in 2001 when there were lots of fires in NSW we were all so nervous just hoping they wouldn't come near us. We were lucky that they didn't. But we did get ash and burned leaves in our yard and we couldn't see more than about 20 metres because of how thick the smoke was.

Too bad we don't have the death penalty anymore. But a bit of torture shouldn't go astray. :)

But I'd say at least life, with parole only being an option if the lives are brought back. Which they won't. So no parole.

AGREED! I hate the people who light fires delibrately. It's just unfair.:grumpy:

There's a special on Today Tonight on Channel 7, recommend everyone who can, watch it.

Yep it's horrendous a guy i have heard of through my job (he's a train driver) was killed trying to outrun the fire on his motorbike there's a picture on page 6 of the Herald Sun. Sadly he was only 50 meters to safety of a CFA fire truck spraying it's self with water when the fire caught him. Another guy at works best mate lost his house and everything he owns but he survived.
Please guys if anyone can help in any way even if it is giving clothes to salvos do it.
To all the guys in the CFA and everyone else closley involved TAKE CARE and come home safely.

Ugh 131 dead and presumed to hit 200+. Turb, you getting any smog or anything like that? Are you close or far from the fires?

EDIT: Also I am half watching the special Today Tonight.

I know you're waiting for the bushfire to kill me, but no matter it's nowhere near me!

But seriously, Casio said that he could almost see the smoke again.

Damn that will be the day:sly:. No I'm wont joke about people dying, its not really all that funny.

I can smell the smoke, and it's affecting the sun's colour, but otherwise visibility is fine.

My thoughts are with those with family, friends and colleagues whose lives and homes are in danger. Although Australia is no stranger to this type of event, this is particularly terrible.

What area do you live in? I'm guessing not near the city area.

That is true, I've had to clear ash of my car on more than one occasion! Come to think of it, this is the first summer in a long time I haven't smelt smoke near my house from a not too distant bush fire.

On a more somber note, my thoughts are with all those that are affected by this catastrophe, it really is a tragedy.

Ah... fire smoke... common thing to see here in Cali...

But 230 dead? Damn, thats quite a bit. Hope everyone here makes it out unhurt.

We're ****ing snowed in right now. Literally. I can't get my car out.. It's snowed for 24 hours straight now, I would have swapped in an instant.
Remember the forest fires we had last year? Those were just 20-30 minutes away from me. I can guarantee, that when you can smell and see the smoke in the air and see makeshift firefighting equipment* drive by, it's pretty damn terrifying. And that wasn't even a 10th of this.

I'd keep the snow.

* = Farm equipment, cement trucks, fuel-transporters and pretty much anything that can hold considerable amounts of water.

New count, 173 confirmed and rising. I was watching A current Affair last night, water from my eyes (and the wife's) quite a few times.

Donate if you can.

Google Map of current fires locations
