Initial D Set for PS3

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/855/855898p1.html
February 29, 2008 - If you love to street race while blasting J-pop anime music, you're going to have to get yourself a PS3. The latest issue of Famitsu has a first look at Initial D Extreme Stage, a PS3 version of the Japanese racer that's known in arcades as Initial D Arcade Stage 4.

In addition to a visual update, the big new feature for the home is an online racing mode. Similar to the arcade version's "National Tournament" mode, players can rise in class by beating other racers and gain access to even tougher opponent classes.

The arcade version also let online players customize their characters. Sega hasn't announced this for the home version yet, but it sounds like a likely feature to us!

Solo drivers can look forward to an updated version of the arcade's single player mode, Koudou Saisoku Densetsu (this name translates to something along the lines of "Legend of the Fastest on the Road"). Over 20 rivals will appear in this story mode, which uses the PS3 for high quality shading.

Initial D hits Japan this Summer. An international release has yet to be announced.

im curious how this will be. i played v2 a lot in arcades but never on a console. id honestly only buy if it came english subtitle/translation with japanese option vocal/voice

I love how there's so little interest in this.
That's because dorifto is not a way of life (or even a phase) to 99.9% of the people on this planet - and probably not even to 90% of just the gamers on this planet.

If theres ever been a greater case of "do-want" I've never known it.

That looks absolutely staggering. Here's hoping for a US release. Either way, I'm getting this game.

Pre-ordered from HMV Hong Kong. Incredibly cheap. Play-Asia offers an Asian version which comes with an english manual, but the Asin verion lacks online features.

If anyone's interested I can post a review when I have played the game.

Note: Game due out on July the 3rd

Also, odds of a US release is not likely. So far, none of the Initial D games on any platform (other than that horrendous Mountain Vengeance from ValuSoft on PC) have been released in english speaking countries.

Word.

It would be great if companies like Sega monitored sales through international vendors to gauge product interest in other countries. The fact that there will be an English manual available takes the edge off a bit, but it would be great to have a straightahead english version of the game :(

I hear you. I mean they made the Arcade versions into english, why not the PS3 version considering there are large overseas markets as well? It doesn't make much sense really (business-wise) and we as gamers lose out because we do not understand any of the dialogue and may miss out on certain features due to the language barrier.

Yep :(

Still, looks to be a beautiful game, and mountain driving is always fun.

Even if I can't understand it, as long as I can figure out which button makes me go, I'll be happy :)

Damn, the trailer is really AMAZING. I wish it was ingame gameplay because the replay camera are absolutely stunning. I mean, I'm really impressed of the camera angle. So perfect to drift. Also, the new m.o.v.e's song is incredible!

Someone on the IDWorld Forums has his hands on an Asian version of the game.
Online is not present in the Asian version as mentioned before.

Will post new details as I find them

ONLINE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. Playes from the US with US consoles and US PSNs have been able to race other players online.
