I've been having this problem occasionally, however it's gotten really bad after the 1.06 update. Basically what happens is that some people don't load up during races. It's extremely annoying having to re-join friends' rooms to attempt to get the rest of the players to load up. Hopefully I'm not the only one with this problem so PD can find a way to fix this..

Yes, it's really annoying. I now know why I have people calling me a rammer:irked:

Online has become really buggy for me after 1.06.

I've had the same, cars randomly appearing out of nowhere and floating PSN names driving round the track. Luckily it was a free run room so I didn't ruin anyones race but I did hit a few of them and I actually drove through one even though they weren't ghosted.

I had it happen only once, but I could still see the PSN name and his floating headlights, so I was able to avoid him. Of course he was driving the wrong way on the 'ring, so if I had hit him it would have been his own fault anyway.

Surely something wrong online after 1.06. Ghostcars, frozening on start of race, connection errors and leaving rooms because of that. I think it came in 1.06, things got worse right away after installing that.

1.07 doesn't made it worse or better.

I think it have been online problems for months now, and the last month it has become more serious. Lets face it, the servers are to weak, and the online play is to bad implemented. PD 🤬 you

Happens to me too! It's really weird. You try to turn, only to find out that someone is there, and BAM, there he goes.

I had the same thing happen before 1.06. Was racing for a couple hours with what I thought was three other guys. Turns out the room was practically full. I probably looked like a jerk ramming and smashing people that I couldnt see.

Its your net connection, or another players net connection setup incorrectly.

You must have -
NAT2 or better
PS3 in DMZ
UPnP On and available.

GT5 appears to be more sensitive to different connections than other games. If you can set a room to 'Fixed Host' that will sort out a lot of those issues. If the Fixed Host option isn't selected, the players must all have a clear connection to the net to have a trouble free race.

Its less about GT5 network and more about your own in house setup.

I have been having trouble online and now that I think about it, it all happened after 1.06!
List of problems:
Track disappearing from underneath me
After a race you were watching ends you get taken back to GT life
Magically disappearing people halfway through the race
Floating PSN names racing around the track

All after 1.06
This is the first time I've had a real problem with this game

And if it couldn't get any worse I can no longer do remote races (or very rarely) because every time I select someone's driver it takes me back to GT life. And if that wasn't bad enough, when I do rarely finish a race, the screen goes black and freezes, forcing me to quit the game, losing some data( I think )

This is the first time I have wanted something fixed in this game. I know everyone's just gonna say "It's your fault for bad connection, not PD's" I never had any of this trouble before patch 1.06 and 1.07

Rant over
(And if you read this far, give yourself a pat on the back! :dopey: )

I had an experience like that two days ago: a race in Laguna Seca started with three racers, but after the sixth lap (i was leading with something like 20 seconds ahead 2nd), two cars spawned (one of them appeared right in the straightaway, and i crashed on it when it was still invisible). The most unbelievable is because i finished third, 4 seconds behind 1st.

It's server lag due to varying Internet connection speeds. This has been a common problem for all the racing games I've played online. On some games I've played having a fast Internet speed was a handicap because the program tries to keep the guy with the slow connection where he's supposed to be, hence the disappearance and reappearance of a car infront or behind me. Just a little to add on to Lion-face's post.

I have had the issue with opponents not appearing on track during a race. For example, I have had two races where I thought it was just me and one opponent. The position indicator says 1/2 or 2/2. Before I finish the race someone else says 'I win!'. Looking at the race results, this mystery opponent isn't listed. Asking those in the lobby reveals other players were racing and on track. Very strange indeed. I have noticed this recently a couple of times.

I was in free run this morning with 3 other guys and suddenly all 3 disappeared. I asked on mic if anybody else was on the track and they were still on there. I couldn't see them and they couldn't see me. I had to completely exit the room to get back from the alternate dimension.

A lot of times my connection is dropped, I can't join a lounge after disconnecting the same one, I don't see a few other drivers. It became worse after 1.06.
Some times I see in the lounge eg. 2 drivers loading but they are already racing.
Very very annoying. I have PnP enabled, but I can't create a DMZ with my providers hardware. Hope they fix this problem. *#&$Y#@*$

I also noticed some of the aforementioned issues since 1.06. Haven't been the only one on track as of yet, but have experienced the field split various ways. Almost as if they're grouped by quality of connection, but I'm not claiming that as a cause or effect.

Thats a very common issue. Hardware provided by your ISP is often at the very low end of the scale and limited in their capabilities. Your best off biting the bullet and replacing the modem/router with one of your own. You will get much better results out of it. I wouldn't hold your breath that these issues will be fixed by a patch...

Note that putting your PS3 in the DMZ overrides UPnP - UPnP forwards ports on request to the PS3, while putting it in the DMZ means *ALL* ports are forwarded to the PS3.

If you can't see more than one person, YOUR connection must be the one at fault.

Methinks thou doest miss the point...

It's a bug in the game that allows somebody (whether that person's connection is bad or not) to be in a race with others but not see them.

I suppose it could be some kind of work-around for glitching. I don't remember seeing any glitching cars since the 1.06 update.

If it was allowed by the provider I would do that. :(

I've had it where i can't see other but he sees me, i see him but he doesn't see me, and neither of us see each other.

Thats why i started hosting my own races

This has been happening a lot more lately. I noticed sometimes 1 person is lagging (loading bar under their name) and it does not allow me to see anyone who entered the room after them, but once they are gone the room magically opens up and works.

+1 as it is happening to me too.

It occurs more with friends in your friend list (on the PS3 XMB).

Their car does not appear on track - even though they say they are - and the grey loading bar continuously scrolls under their name.

Very annoying and seems to be getting worse and worse.

Even more annoying when other software titles work so well :irked:

This is just flat out not true.

I've experienced it, and heard from others with virtually every combination of wireless/wired/portforwarded/nat1,2,3/etc and the only link between them is that they are playing GT5.

for the sake of argument, if it is the fault of the people's settings, PD should have known this would happen and make sure it still works like every other game out there works. If I can play shooters and an MMO with no problem on my ps3, theres no viable excuse for GT5 not working online.
