Older devices are going to have a hard time supporting iOS6 as it is, that's probably why some features are missing.

Click image for full article. The iPhone 5 appears to be the fastest at JavaScript. Just shows that having twice the amount of cores and memory means nothing.

I cannot believe the gushing coming from tech reviewers about the iPhone, how can they be so ecstatic about what is probably one of the most disappointing products to come out of Apple ever! Sure its by no means bad but its hardly the second coming in mobile devices! Do people just not properly critique Apple products any more?
.
This review pretty much says it's a wonderful design, faster than the previous and you don't need external memory or NFC either.

And yet it does make a big deal about it being "probably the most beautiful smartphone anyone has ever made".

I mean, C'mon?

The thing people are missing about the iPhone 5 is iCloud. You don't need external storage and a huge device memory because with iCloud it gives extra memory and more than any other phone. It can also sync your phone do when you go to the computer all the stuff is the same saving you tons of time. They also have that new chip built in that allows you to have that gift card feature built in. I don't see why that can't be used as a actual credit card in the future.

Edit: new OS6 I was gonna get on my current phone but the new maps can't do street view, or bus routes and some other key features. Supposed to be a actual google maps app soon but it's not out yet and who knows when it will be. Hopefully apple steps their game up big time to get the their maps to as good as googles.

What the hell are they sueing Apple for now then?! They both need to stop the childish game they're playing.

Hey, if Apple wanted to play "Mine!" then they should've considered their place in the market. Rarely does Apple invent something, rather they apply previously used concepts in a more appealing manner. It's a bad idea to start suing the people who invent the technologies you use.

This.

Did anyone who pre-ordered their iPhone 5 get theirs early?

This is something more like you may be looking for Mog, from the Apple side of the samsung ad.

iPhone sleek and durable? The guy at at AT&T told me it was literally made of glass on the front and back, and to get an Otterbox, because if you drop it, it has a 90% chance of breaking.

I think most of us who pre-ordered are actually getting them late :indiff:.

I pre-ordered mine at 5AM EST on the first pre-order day, that's 90 minutes after the pre-orders began, and I have to wait two weeks. It sucks because I'll be in California when my phone comes and I'll have to wait like 10 days more to get it.

I've rarely had a case on my 4 and it hasn't broken. It's been dropped on concrete numerous times, along with all sort of other things that would cause breakage, and there's been no problems. The glass the iPhone's are made out of is really strong stuff.

It seems it's mostly luck, I've dropped my iPod and it's still fine, whereas I see people with cracked screens. And on YouTube I've seen drop years where the phone will be fine, or it will be broken. :boggled:

Same here with my 4S, has dents all over my antennae but screen has only a few scratches from lose change and keys.

The glass is gorilla glass 2 which you could literally use your keys as a stylus on an not get a scratch. Obviously if you dropped it on a diamond from a building it will break but I seen the test and it is very strong.

I'm gunna call BS on that one. The back of my phone has been scratched by loose change.

Edit: It appears I'm not alone. Google "iPhone 4S scratch."

There's a bit of a problem with this here iOS6:

The map app. Ugh. I just did a search for a local pizza joint that's a mile from my house and it only brought up 3 of the 7 locations around the city. I had to add the word "pizza", as if the name "cousin vinnys" wasn't good enough, it being the only chain called Cousin Vinnys in this whole region of the country. WTF. Just the word "Vinnys" worked on Google maps; it would ask me, "Did you mean Cousin Vinnys Pizza", and I was like, oh hey, yeah I did, thanks Google, you're a genius because that's obviously the most popular search in the area with the word Vinnys in it because nobody who is drunk and hungry is searching for a barber shop at 3 in the morning.

The damn place is a mile from my house! Hell, it made me think they shut it down!

You should note that plastic has a better chance with drop falls than metal as plastic has less of a chance to send the drop force to the glass. Please take a look at these two videos for reference.

Having that metal back can be a bad thing. I have to note that plastic can be nice when it's produced correctly for the phone. I've used an S3 before and I'd have to disagree with the guy who made the Photoshopped ad image. The plastic felt just fine when I used it.

From what I heard it was a certain spot that made it crack every time but Is hard to hit. As for scratches they originally made it with normal glass but Steve Jobs had it in his pocket and it was all scratched from his keys. He called in all his guys and said people carry keys in their pocket and we can't have it scratch this easy. The top guys flew to China that day and by the end of it had new scratch proof glass put on all the phones.

As for the back of your phone idk I guess it can happen but either way the 5 is newer glass.

This reason is the only thing that has stopped me from getting the new OS. The maps seems so awesome and I wanna try it however so many key features are gone. They don't even have the bus routes anymore and all the searches are so awful. Google maps app isn't out yet either so it's gonna screw you if you need those certain features.

The front glass on the iPhone 4S is gorilla glass or equivalent and indeed is very difficult to scratch. The back is not though and is much easier to scratch. I don't have a case on mine and it's all scratched up. :indiff:

That is pretty much the sole reason I haven't upgraded to iOS 6 yet. There seems to be some pretty neat stuff in the new OS, but that terrible maps app just kills it, and yes, I can use Google Maps in Safari, but that's annoying. I need to play with it more and see how much I'm willing to compromise on the maps (or wait until Google releases a Maps app) before I'll upgrade to iOS 6.

I'm sure you guys have heard about the new Maps fiasco. Apparently its beyond terrible and seeing as there isn't a stand-lone Google Maps app in the Apple Store yet its a real step backwards.

My brother upgraded his 4S last night and he seemed pretty pleased with his maps. He was amazed that you could alter the angle of the map, something I'm pretty sure the iPhone has been able to do since the start

Wait till he finds out town's are listed where they shouldn't be, totally new airports exist where they didn't before, and half of all shops and business have disappeared off the face of the earth

Why do American websites have such a problem with admitting that the A6 SoC is in fact a British processor? All of them are saying that Apple designed the chip themselves, yet it is based on the ARMv7... and licensed from the British company ARM Holdings.

It is a British chip and the situation is no different than that of Graphics Cards for PCs, where nVidia, Intel and AMD design the specifications and chips, but license the products to other manufacturers so they can use and modify them as necessary.

For every single iPhone 5 produced ARM Holdings gets a cut as part of the licensing deal, just as with virtually every other Smart Phone and Tablet in existence.

Just been to,d by Orange that there is a chance I may not get my phone today and it could be within the next 30 days. Gutted and annoyed at orange for their lack of communication.

Ok I seen some reviews and videos by different people today talking about it and would like to share them but I'm on my phone and don't know how. I will just explain a general overview.

People are saying the iphone5 is the best phone out there as it has crazy power and can do basically everything any other phone can do. not that's others are bad it just does the same stuff only seems slightly better. The screen they said is very nice and looks better than the top android phone screen. I forget which one.

They are also saying the added length is nice however a lot of apps aren't using it just yet so there is a black bar at the top which isn't noticeable on black iPhones. The overall design looks the same style but feels very different and up close looks very different. For example the black iPhone 5 no longer has a glass back probably because of scratch complaints like some of you are talking about and now has a aluminum back. The trim on the side is now also black but around the edge there is a slight edge which is a high gloss black.

The maps app is great however the lack of a few features can get annoying. Things like no bus routes anymore apple has at least still left the option in there and when you go to search for one it suggest other apps that can do it. Only problem is once you say which app you want to run the bus route it takes you out of maps and to that app. Finally google maps app has been worked on for years now so it should be exact to the old one or better and is already in the app store waiting approval. Apple could be dicks and not allow it saying its too similar to a iOS app being their maps but they have already taken so much heat for maps I would think it will be approved. Plus there are plenty other map apps out there already.

It's supposed to feel much lighter than you would expect and even tho it's bigger in height doesn't feel weird to use since width is the same. Things like typing will not be all new to you.

The headphone jack is moved to the bottom with the new mini USB charger thing. Nothing special but the adapter to make old chargers use this will loss some features like being able to control iPod on certain devices.

The new ear phones which is something I been excited to see about are supposed to sound better and have deeper bass even when not fully pushed into your ear. I have only seen one review on these and the guy said they didn't fit super great and would fall out sometimes but could be this one guy or you have to put them in a special way idk.

Edit: found this drop test video. If someone could embed please.

Well, they can't just let greedy old Apple get away with their Billion dollars now can they? :sly: And I say greedy based on the price of their products.
