Nope, they're not kidding, this is the replacement for the ipod mini by the looks of it.

apple
ake everything you love about iPod and shrink it. Now shrink it again. With 2GB (500 songs) and 4GB (1,000 songs) models starting at £139 (UK) or €209 (Ireland) including VAT, the pencil-thin iPod nano packs the entire iPod experience into an impossibly small design. So small, it will take your music places you never dreamed of. Believe Your Ears

Call it astonishing. Unbelievable. Impossible, even. Then pick it up and hold it in your hand. Take in the brilliant colour display. Run your thumb around the Click Wheel. Put on the earbuds and turn up your music. That’s when everything becomes clear: it’s an iPod.

It holds up to three days’ worth of music. It plays for up to 14 hours between battery charges (1). It displays the colour album art for the song you’re listening to right now. It carries your photos, podcasts and audiobooks. It syncs seamlessly with iTunes. It connects to a host of iPod accessories. Simply put, iPod nano is 100-percent iPod. And then some.

Touch and Go

iPod nano’s Click Wheel puts music under your thumb. Click to fast-forward, rewind, play, pause or access menus. Use the touch-sensitive surface to control volume or browse music. You can do it all without looking. But with an iPod this beautiful, who’d want to?

Song Stylings

Add accessories to your iPod nano via the Dock connector and headphone jack and your music will always keep up with you — at home, on the go, even in your car. Of course, in either classic white or sleek black, iPod nano itself makes the ultimate accessory.

Up to 4GB (2) of skip-free storage on a featherweight iPod means you can wear almost three days’ worth of music around your neck. Or jog with 1,000 songs on your arm. Now that you can take your music everywhere, there’s no limit to where it will take you.

Go to http://www.apple.com/uk/ipodnano/ for for information.

Damn, just as i go and get myself an ipod mini, they replace it :ouch:
I thought they'd simply put a colour screen in an ipod mini, but apparently not. *Sigh* Oh well. I liked the mini better.

Apple announced the iPod Nano today:

http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/

* 2GB and 4GB configurations
* Color screen
* Lanyard with integrated headphones (interesting concept)
* Compatible with iPod accessories (this is an area where Apple clearly beats iriver) :(
* 14 hours of battery life (seems relatively short for a flash player)
* Calendar and contacts that synch with Outlook (this is also interesting, especially considering that Outlook is a Microsoft product)

Looks like the anti-iPod-groupies got here first..... seriously go get a life. If you dislike iPod so much why do you jump on every topic to bash it?

To me it looks like a nice piece of equipment. I don't see a reason why they'd make iPod Mini's now they have this. Storage is almost the same (the 4gb one), it looks much better and is smaller. I won't buy one, I'm happy with my 20Gb one (although I do think it's slightly too big to fit in the pockets of my jeans).

Looks really nice. And the battery life doesn´t seem short to me considering iPod Shuffle´s battery lasts less and doesn´t have a screen. I just bought an iPod Shuffle recently, but if the prices of Nano are not too high over here I might sell the Shuffle and get this one.

Wow, thats very nice. The one thing that bugged me a bit about the Ipod was its size, but this seems perfect.

Why pay $250 for a 4gb nano when you can get a 20gig ipod for $300?

Also...does the nano have a digital out? If it doesn't, then it's totally useless (like the shuffle.)

At its special event in San Francisco today, Apple introduced the iPod nano, a completely new iPod that’s thinner than a standard #2 pencil and weighs only 1.5 ounces. The iPod mini replacement is available in 2GB ($199) and 4GB ($249) capacities in either white or black designs. The ultra-compact device features a high-resolution color screen, Click Wheel, and offers up to 14 hours of battery life.

“iPod nano is the biggest revolution since the original iPod,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “iPod nano is a full-featured iPod in an impossibly small size, and it’s going to change the rules for the entire portable music market.”

The iPod nano has a standard 30-pin Dock Connector (allowing it to work with many current accessories), is compaible with both Mac and Windows via USB 2.0, and offers the ability to display photos and album art. Because it uses flash memory instead of a tiny hard drive for music storage, it provides completely skip-free playback. The updated iPod software also adds a new stopwatch, world clock and screen lock applications.

The iPod nano is available worldwide immediately through the online Apple Store. Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers will begin receiving shipments on or before this weekend..

AND IT WILL BE AVAILABLE IN BLACK!!!!!

Wow I can forsee this thing sucking greatly. I can't imagine the breakage on these things. Electronics can only be so small before they become flimsy and fragile. But Jesus $250 for an MP3 player? That's insane. I went out an bought one that straps to my arm with 512MB of space for like 40 bucks. Sure it ain't 4 gigs but with two memory sticks I get it up to a gig and well thats enough music for me to get my couple miles in while I run.

Seriously... WHY... would this thing suck? WHY would this break, but not your 512MB player? Until now none of the apple mp3 players ever sucked, so why would you even assume that this one will?

SURE, it will be expensive, 4Gb of flash memory IS expensive. A colour screen IS expensive. It is built from expensive materials as well.

Who CARES 1Gig is enough for you? For some people a Lada is good enough to do their grocery shopping, does that mean they should stop producing BMW's?

You people really just like to complain and ***** about your own situation. If you are looking for a player with a couple of gigs and money isn't the problem this is probably the best thing you can get. Screw an iPod shuffle or mini or Zen Micro, this is the best thing out now.

I'm probably going to give people the impression that I'm some type of iPod fan, but I'm not, this is just the best thing on the market right now within its own category.

Calm done buddy, its just a fashion accessory.

To me it is not, I have my iPod in an ugly ass cover in my pocket most of the time. I don't travel around showing it off like "look at me I have an iPod", because if I did I probably would have been robbed already. As a matter of fact I'm hoping my white earbuds will die on my soon so I can get me new, better ones. I'm surprised they already lasted over a year, that's longer than most other earphones I owned before.

It sucks because it's too expensive. Duh.

But yeah, it's just the mini replacement. I knew it used flash memory...

ABout 99.9% of people bought an iPod because they were the in thing at the time. Like Tomagachi's back in the day, but this thing just happens to be 300 bucks rather then 20 bucks. I don't see the point in spending that kind of money on something to listen to music. IF I wanted a huge assortment of music I can just burn MP3's to a CD and put them in my CD player. But like I said 1 Gig of music for about 90 bucks seemed a whole lot more reasonable on my end.

BlazinXtreme, can you substantiate that statistic?

I think that the reason most people bought an iPod is that Apple were the first to bundle together a legal download service with a physically desirable device that had better-than-reasonable sound quality, making their first priority the fact that everyone can use them.

The iPod demographic is so huge now, and I think it has to be down to the device's tactility and its ease of use.

At the time of its introduction, Apple turning up in the marketplace with iPod was roughly equivalent to the first time someone turned up a swordfight with a rifle.

Put me in that 0.1%, then. Roll and Eyes.

I'd say it's about half. Some had 1000's of songs on their iPod, replaced the earphones and kept it in a case, hidden away in their pockets or wherever. The other half, well lets just say they were after some brand therapy.

You know, by categorically denying that the iPod could possibly be anything other than are horrible ripoff designed to steal money from idiots, you are allowing popular opinion to dictate your thoughts just as surely as if you were the fashion victims you so thoroughly despise.

Roll and Eyes. <~ in bold this time.

No contest. The ipod is better. For a flash based player, the nano will be hard to beat.

That can't be said when comparing apple's HD based players.

I hope the nano has good sound quality..because if it has, it deseve to be the best in the market now. I just can't think of anything better.

BTW, Im still glad I chose the zen micro over the ipod mini. :)

It looks nice, if i didn't have a mini i'd buy it. Oh, and for those who think that it's better to buy a full size ipod than a 4gb nano, you'd be right. Unless you want a small player. In my opinion, the top spec minis shuffles and nanos have always been pointless. Why buy a 1GB shuffle when for £40 more you can have an ipod mini 4gb. Why pay £180 for a 6gb mini when you can have a full size ipod for £20 more? You get the picture.
I only bought an ipod mini 4gb because at the time i bought it, there were no rivals at the same price or lower that had the same specs. Ok, i saw one. Some weird one on a tv shooping channel that looked remarkably like a sliver ipod mini. Since i didn't want to pay £10 more for a rip off made by some company called hypersumokumatsutamicatchi.

Anyway, people who dobn't like ipods, stop spamming yet another thread with useless posts.

So I over did that statistic, but most people buy them because they are trendy. Like I said I get the same bang out of my cheaper MP3 player. There is no way in hell I can justify spending 300 dollars on something to listen to music with, well save for my trucks headunit, but that thing does a lot more then just play music.

I don't understand the obession with the iPod. I think they are useless, and since I have a lap top, I just listen to music on that when I go somewhere other then the gym.

Mmm, heard about that. Looks a lot like the other phone motorola released not long ago with an mp3 player. dark blue and pink it was.

Iboos... Drag & Drop... Hmm... that's a hard one. :dopey: Something you and I know a lot about. :D (I got a Zen Neeon) God damn this "Zen" name is getting old.

As for the phone...

I mean seriously?! that was there BIG surprise?? What was it.. Sprint and LG or Samsung came out with an "MP3" phone eons ago. I love the revolutionary design too.

I meant that if Creative have registered the name Nano, they would be able to sue, no?
