Nice Times there Swift...
I will give a bit of warning though, there is usually a big turn out at LRP in the Skip, alot of people try it out for the first time. This can mean some very, well, varied races to put it politely
Good luck everyone for the coming week 👍

Noshog, should I race this week? It's also rookie promotion week + free track LRP = accidents?

I am heavily conflicted. I have a pretty good time of 58.5 as my average but I am sure it will be a lot worse when theres slower rookies blocking me on such a short track. But if my strat is to qualify and place first, surely this gives me a leg up?

I need to stop practicing for league races and finish up my last 0.2 SR I need to fast-track to B-class (formerly raced on a shared account, finally made my account back in November) so I can get back into multi-class racing.

If you iRating is low you can probably start in the front positions with the lap times you're doing, so the slower drivers shouldn't be much of a problem. Lime Rock is just a bit difficult to do overtakes so you got to be careful about that. Best spot to overtake is T1.

Really? Cool! Yeah that was probably one of my best "launches". Was in 3rd place for a bout 3/4 lap til I had that accident with that other HPD. After spinning out like that I was in last place. Havent reviewed the replay yet to see what happened. But I am still very happy I gave it my best shot right there in the beginnning. What normally happens is I see all the desperate HPDs that don't qualify divebomb upfront and I hit my brakes to avoid contact.

But tonight I put my foot down and just decided I'd fight to keep my position even if it meant contact.

Its becoming apparent tho people dont bother to qualify unless they think they can hit pole position. I dont think thats realistic but the only way I can teach these guys a lesson is to just gain more speed and just keep harassing them within ethical boundaries...

Kind of sad I always start like 4th or 5th and yet there's a full field of HPDs and half of them can hit higher Q times than me. Yet they dont bother haha

Anyway!!!

The iPhone or any other smart phone can connect via wifi to your local computer. Simply start up the iSpeed Telemetry HUD. Next, try to right click on the background and look for "Web Server Enabled". Here it gives ya the web link you need to type into Safari on your iPhone. Mine was http://192.168.1.103:3278. That should be it!

Only problem I have is the iPhone wants to auto-lock still with it running. So I have to turn off auto-lock. Kind of annoying... But after I'm done and turn back on auto-lock.

I've been playing for most of the evening and it's quite addictive! I'm in love with the Solstice and the Miata, and the Legend car is like an insane shopping car on cocaine:p. I'm giving it a try for a month and i'll decide from there if I'll stay on full time(which means balancing between this and GT5 :p). I just can't believe some of the prices of the tracks and cars..

The prices are sooooooooo worth it once you realize how good iRacing actually is when compared to a game like GT5.

$15 for a track seems a but steep to me, no matter how good it is. I just started as you know, so I have a lot to experience and learn, but I don't think my opinion will change..:p

Well, the week is over and I managed to get nine races under my belt at Brands Hatch in the skippy. Overall, I love the track. It's by far the most difficult I've raced. Damn it's hard to pass here.

I only got damaged by another car once and it was only a bent spoiler. I had more wheel to wheel action here than all the other tracks combined I think. Such close racing, and everyone was well behaved for the most part.

I raced three times today and all were jam packed full of highlights. I was able to snatch fifth place in a top slit race with a 3200 SOF, with alien drivers such as the world record hold for this track in the skippy. Surprisingly, this race has the most crashes I have ever seen. I started fifteenth on the grid and was in seventh by the end of the first lap due to two major pileups.

In summary, I love this car, track, game, and community. 👍

Mac, $15 does see like a lot for each track, but once you factor in the discount when buying bulk (20% for six pieces of content or more) and the fact that many series use the same tracks, you'll find that it isn't necessary to spend more than $100-120 on tracks if you're only road racing. So lets say you spend $150 on tracks, if you race for three years you'll have spent $400 total on iRacing. If you consider sim racing a hobby, then this is a pretty awesome bargain, in my opinion.

Sorry I'm probably not the person to ask that, my attitude is, if you want to race...race !
What Livemusic said is pretty spot on too 👍 put in a good qualy and keep it clean.

Good luck :)

Welcome to iRacing Mac. As well as the discounted cost of cars and tracks if you buy them in bulk - 3 or 6 at a time - iRacing ocassionally has offers of free credits, e.g. pay $75 but actually get $95 in your iRacing account so it is worth waiting for one of those offers to come around. Ditto, for membership fees - although it's officially $99 a couple of times a year there are promotions for a years membership for much much less. So, grab promotions when you can even if it means some iRacing credits sat in your account for future use. iRacing is expensive but not as expensive as it would first seem. Also, remember that iRacing gets updated every 3 months so it gets better and better.

Oh yes, as for balancing between this and GT5 - I thought that when I started iRacing. I hardly ever turn my PS3 on these days. :)

Cheers live and noshog. I am bit of a whimp and clean driver so I always try to overtake on straights, less damage to others and me. Of course, this is "too safe" for some people. :)

iRacing is expensive only until you have completed your purchases. I own 95% of the cars and about 70% of the tracks. I am decidedly a "road racer"

On black Friday I purchased 1 year for $49, that's all it cost. I will be a C license in a couple weeks and then in no time I will continue to move up.

BTW once you realize how good iRacing is you will forget about GT5, I can't remember the last time I played it.

this quote embellishes me. i started 01/31 on iracing. I am A class in road (LESS THEN A MONTH!, i have a serious problem), and will be d class in oval once promotion goes threw. forget gt5 i feel its a waste of time. will i go back and play it of course, but if i want to race i will be driving iRacing. just wish i could be A class or B class in oval to play with people who actually try. to bad i need to buy all those tracks :-/ maybe next season.

Just had my first race in the rookie races, I'm amazed at generally how smooth the race was considering where I live, lag would be a problem. A good experience so far, GT5 is far away in terms of the races

@Mac, I asked the exact same question in this very same thread a few months back. It's well worth it without a doubt! Even if all you plan to do is just hotlap and never race it I'd still say hell ya

I was having one of the best races ever just now in the Mazda at Okayama.

Started 4th, overtaken in turn 1 and then again in turn 3 so I was down to 6th place. Then a few mightly laps put me in 3rd place and battling hard with the guy in second who was running a little slower than me.

Then around 10 laps into the race, the fire alarm went off. So I pulled to the side of the track, grabbed my coat and made my way out of my flat and into the courtyard. As I walked outside there stood an evil little woman with her evil clipboard with that evil look on her face, directing her minions (Student reps) to check that the flats were empty. Stupid fire drill ruined my race!!! When I came back I was 5 laps down and stone-dead last. I managed to take two places from some guys who had retired to the pits but after that it was impossible to make any more gains.

I think it's a conspiracy, the guy in second place organised the fire drill :sly:

@sandbox, I have had iRacing for almost 1 year now. I was so intimidated watching other people race. I hotlapped for a good 5 or 6 months before I even joined a practice.

It's all good now, I have improved vastly. I will never be in the top splits but that's ok, iRacing fills my lust for racing. :)

Holey crap, talk about bad luck.

Looks like you had a good time this week. When I first saw it was the full GP track for the Skip I thought the car would be a bit slow for the track, but like you, ended up fully loving the combo :D Cant wait to come back now. Unfortunately for me I ended up getting sick, so didn't race as much as I wanted :(
Nice work on the 5th for 3200 SOF , I have to ask when (Day/GMT) did you find a SOF that high, the highest I've been in would be about 2600 :irked: (not that I could really compete but would still be nice to see it).

GT5 is fun and relaxing, which I like, which is why I play it. Iracing is more serious and requires time to get into. To be fair to both, I don't think they're comparable. Iracing feels great, and surprisingly GT5 feels similar, but not completely. So I guess what I'm saying is they're both excellent games(sorry, sims:p) and I don't plan on not playing either of them any time soon.

Mac I was the same way as you are, loved to play GT5. Some of the ram rods on GT5 took away the fun for me, I still enjoyed hotlapping and driving all the different cars. The graphics on my computer are so awesome that it's hard to play GT5 anymore. GT5 is played on the same TV as my computer.

iRacing is hard when you first start out, at least it was for me. Once you discover all the goings on in iRacing it becomes a lot of fun and believe me it takes awhile to discover the little tricks involved in iRacing. I still pull out GT5 every once and awhile and run some of my old favorites, it's just not the same anymore.

I'm one of the lucky few that has a PSN friends list full of clean and fast racers(GT5 is the only game I play usually) and I've always been a GT fan. I'm sure I'll find just as many clean and fast racers on Iracing, but I won't just stop playing GT5. To each their own I guess right? Is transmission adjustable in Iracing?

On some cars you can adjust the gears, not sure about which ones atm. I too have a great bunch of friends to race with in GT5. Don't get me wrong, I think GT5 is very good, it's just that iRacing is so much better. :)

I've been playing Gran Turismo since the first one, absolutely loved all of them. When I started iRacing in 2008 I found myself more and more disappointed with the GT series, but I still played it just because of all the different tracks and cars available. I bought GT5P and GT5 when it finally came out, still played them occasionally. But as time went on, everything just felt so dead. Nothing felt *right* after spending so much time playing iRacing (and rFactor), it's difficult to describe, but the cars felt too similar too eachother, and the tracks felt dead. For the last 6 months or so I find myself not even able to force myself to play GT5 or Forza.

Can the Street Stock's transmission be adjusted? I can't get it above 92 MPH.

The best thing about iRacing is how there is a schedule of races to enter.

I remember playing GT5P and it was great how the events were fixed and the tracks were limited, so everybody came in expecting the same thing and coming with a car which was tuned for that event. The problem was the community was too small. GT5 isn't good in that all the online events are determined by whoever happens to be the host of the room at the time, so you don't have chance to practice a car/track combination.

As soon as I got iRacing I was able to enter an event with a fixed car and track. There were enough entrants for 3 or 4 splits on 11 cars each, and from all over the world (So people will be online at any time of day).

In GT5 you would have that one race every so often that is a gem, good battles with clean racers who are evenly matched with you for pace. I've had 6 or 7 races so far in iRacing and all of them have been right up there with the very best of my GT5 races; people are considerate and always give room, they never cut you off when passing on a straight, they would rather lift than rear end you if you make a mistake somewhere. I've only had one race where i've been hit and this was because I take a tighter line than somebody who was passing, so it was a Massa/Hamilton at India situation where I turned in for my normal line whilst I was ahead and he had nowhere to go. If these are what rookies are like in this game, then what would you class the average GT5 player as?

In short, iRacing is hands down the best racing game I have ever played. It brings the good racing community to you, you don't have to go looking for it like in other games. (Not just games like GT5, games like rFactor too, you can't just launch the game and expect to enter a clean, competitive race. In iRacing you can)

iRacing has gotten me so spoiled. I do try to play fm4 here & there but as soon as my tires hit the track I can feel the lack of life and realism. I really love being able to feel the bumps on the tracks. It really adds so much to the experience. 👍

* same goes for gt5 ofc.

If I had to play a console racer I'd pick dirt 3 cause they at least made some effort to get some bumps into their tracks. I think netkar pro does as well (coulda sworn their home made tracks had some artficial bumps)
