I tried a Grand-Am Premier series race earlier and my screen blacked out on me for about 5 seconds on lap 20, when the picture came back my car was wrecked. :(
I think I might change to a Radeon card soon, I got a GTX 560 ti at the moment and it's a great card for the price but the latest drivers are a complete pain with iRacing. I could rollback to the 266 or 270 drivers which are perfectly fine for iRacing with no stutters or black outs but I really need the latest drivers installed for other games and apps.

Has anyone here tried the Radeon 7xxx range of cards yet?

I have the 7970 now and I really like it, running 3 screens (about to be 5 screens) it's an improvement over my SLI 560Ti's.

I never had any problems with my 560Ti's on the newest driver (I just pulled them out two weeks ago), so are you sure it is the drivers causing those problems?

I think it must be either the drivers or something to do with the iRacing software as it doesn't happen on any other game and when I check the temps, they are around 58 - 64 degrees under load so it can't be overheating. I can't really think of anything else that it could be.

You're not kidding Josh. I just looked at your results. That field was loaded! Most of the field ran '57s at LRP. Impressive stuff. The worst fastest lap was a '58.2.

It was actually a very boring race though. :indiff:
It was so difficult to pass. Me and threee guys ahead of me were somehow being held up for nearly half the race, letting the pack drift away. The guy holding us up must have been driving very conservatively. It wasn't until lap 8 that I finally made a move on the inside on No Name Straight approach T5. The guy I was trying to pass ran wide because of it so I felt like crappy for the rest of the race, which was uneventful because everyone else had drifted away and I couldn't catch them.

Long story short, LRP is a pretty boring track for me. Next week is Mosport. Hold crap it looks difficult! I hope you decide to race the skippy next season, Rees. I think I'll stick with it for at least another season. It's taken so long to get up to a decent speed and I don't want to start all over.

I installed the latest drivers about a month on my gtx 260m and they were garbage with iRacing also. Everything else ran brilliantly with them. Would get large stutters of 1 to 2 seconds and fps was all over the place in iRacing. Think I'm running the 266 drivers now and all is well.

One thing iRacing could do to combat this would be to have more than 1 car per class. Make it like some of the real race series where there are 2, 3, or more manufacturers competing in a class. IRacing would only have to make sure they run comparable lap times through ballast, etc

Huge licensing issues with that, and then you've got manufacturers getting mad that their car isn't as good as x car.

I think the CTS might get placed into a Grand Am series with the DP, as that would make more sense than the Mustang that isn't up to GT speed. Mustang participation in Grand Am is low because of the DP drivers being assholes, more or less. The Cadillac might be too fast to be realistic for it though, I don't know its specs or anything.

What I would do is break away from the 12 week schedule with some of these cars and mix it up. Perhaps one 12 week championship that uses results of two six-week subseasons. The first six weeks using car A and car B, and the second using car C and car D. Maybe use the DP and CTS-V in the first half and the Mustang and MX5 in the second. It gets around the problem of having too few of each car in a multiclass series. For example the GT Cup and iRacingNews Challenge have the MX5 Cup, Solstice and Jetta (GTC) and the MX5 Roadster, Solstice, and Spec Racer Ford (iRNC). Sometimes you won't have but one of the less popular car in your split.

I had a go, isn't harder than Mid Ohio or Brands Hatch. Just has one difficult corner in my opinion, another just at the start which is a blind turn but it isn't difficult. With your skill level I am not sure why it would be.

What if people wanted to race car A and not B, or vice versa. Also, 6 is way too short, how would drop races be calculated? Counted as best of 4 races? 4 races isn't long enough.

seems to be no easy answer!

Just got my best finish in Legends Oval, 4th woo hoo! A big +14 points. Felt great and I can't wait for more!

Just got back into IRacing over the weekend, hadn't run a race in almost 4-5 months. I dont really have the time to put into this to really be great at it. But this weekend has been fun, was able to finish all but one race. Even pulled in a top 5 in a wreckfest at Phoenix. Hopefully with me having all my weekends off again I can get into this a little more.

Well A or B is your choice for the first half and car C or D is your choice for the second half. So you're not stuck to one car all season and it adds some variety. There could be an ALMS series using the HPD, Corvette, Ford GT, and McLaren/CTSV (if either of those are the right spec for ALMS or close enough).

Better chance of having many of each car in your race, and all the cars are getting used instead of there being one favorite car that leaves almost nobody driving something else.

Total championship points would still be a total of the 12 weeks, drop weeks could either be worked out to 2 per subseason or 4 altogether.

Also a 3 month championship series seems like a long time to me. :)

Just started with the Street Stock at Charlotte on the "Legends Oval" layout and that is a crazy little track. I've ran Charlotte road several times and never even imagined there would be a track there. LOL.

WR time is like 16.2 seconds, I'm at 17.7, got a long way to go, but only done 15 laps or so.

I think eventually iRacing is going to have to start dropping cars with low participation in order to keep races well populated.

Perhaps each time they add a new car they could remove the car with the lowest partcipation? Just give refunds in iRacing credits or offer the new car for free to anyone who owns the outgoing car. But then if iRacing has a deal with the manufacturers, they might not be able to do that anyways.

I do see it as being a problem, unless they can get their advertising more mainstream and double the membership numbers.

Pretty stoked, after 10 laps I got my Mosport time down to 1.34.xxx with the Skip.

This comes under the "good" label per iracing forums. Given that my LRP time of 59.6 didnt even make the "good" times (it was 59.5, I am pretty happy for day 1 practise.

I have pretty much got my weekly game plan now.
-1 day - get to know the track
day 1 - trying to find the best lines, gears, and going nuts to get a great PB/Optimal
day 2 - same thing as day 1
day 3 - review other peoples times, determine whether I will race. Try to maintain lap times without incidents
day 4 - race without driving line. try to get within 1 second of PB/Opt
day 5 - I would qualify before on this day but from the advise of GTP racers, not going to qualify anymore!!
day 6 - race day!
day 7 - race day again if i crashed, if not, time trails

3rd in my time trail season! I am one week behind the top 2 people and they are only within 20 points so I can get 1 for sure. However looking at the ladder, theres a few quick drivers that could easily push for it. I just hope they aren't as active as me.

I just got home from holidays yesterday and was finally able to do some driving on iRacing. I spent about 1.5 hours lapping LRP in the Mazda Cup Car. I was able to slowly work my times down to 1:02.xxx. I'm still quite inconsistent. Go off track about every 3 or 4 laps and have near misses more often then that. That uphill can be very treacherous. I watched a tutorial which really helped. I read somewhere that I should have exact spots for braking, turn in, and apex, but I'm still working on these. Any help in that regard would be awesome.

I have a couple stupid questions. Where is reverse? I'm using autoclutch and paddleshifting for now. After about 1/2 a lap I ran into a wall head first and couldn't figure out how to back up. I held Esc and restarted. How do I reset? A couple of times the game prompted me to push reset, but my laptop doesn't have a reset button that I know of and I couldn't see one on screen.

I'm finding it difficult getting use to doing things on the computer between driving as opposed to on the DS controller or wheel. I keep looking for buttons to push then realize I need to use my mouse.

LOL! I had the same problem and now I find myself reaching for my mouse when I'm on the PS3.

On my wheel (T500) I use my PS button to reset and go back to the pits. It also puts you in the car when you are in the main sim menu.

For reverse keep hitting your downshift gear and hit the gas, that should get you into reverse.

Good luck!

I thought I tried the downshift and couldn't get below 1st. Should I get reverse right after 1st or do I need to hold the downshift and gas together? Is there a way to set what the reset button is? I don't remember seeing that in the quick start guide. Where can I find how to set the reset button?

The driving is definitely more involving then GT5. It is less forgiving for sure, but I'm not sure I'd call it harder like I've heard from others. You get more feedback from the car as well which compensates for it being less forgiving.

One issue I can see with iRacing is the need to do lots of hot lapping. I can see spending hours just testing/practising to get better. I hope I don't get tired of that. I like having some other cars on track. The other thing that bugs me is how easily an "off track" is triggered.

Just as a suggestion, you can always join an online 'open practice' session. They don't affect your iRating or Safety Rating. And it gives you a good chance to practice with other (live) cars on the track. 👍 And unlike lonely hot-lapping, it also gives you the benefit of learning where the good passing spots are. Or as may be the case, the good spots to BE overtaken. :scared:

I do plan to do this too. I thought I should make sure I can do a few decent laps on my own first so I'm not disrupting everybody else.

As already pointed out, it's a great way to learn 👍
Don't worry about disrupting anybody; that's what practice is for! :) You'll be on the track with like-minded people. I've never had any grief from these sessions.

Go practice online, it's a mess and you'll love it. I only do offline tests when the track and car combo isn't being used in that week.

^ This! I can't wait for tonight when official practice opens at VIR with the Stang. Good times!

Really? Is practice the best way to get good track times prior to a race?

I have been doing tests so far, never any practices.

Official practice sessions have the advantage of giving you track experience with other cars. You can see common spinout areas, try different lines, and learn potential passing zones.

Absolutely, you can also practice your race craft too since there are other cars on the track. I just did over an hour at VIR and it was a blast, you can see how your car feels in a draft, compare notes with other drivers, and compare times. Plus, your iRating and SR aren't affected. It was one of the best and most fun discoveries I had in iRacing.

Some times you can find some very good practices with top notch drivers that explain good technique. There is one guy who I forget his name ATM that holds Lotus 79 practices and if you are not their early you can't get in.

How in the hell do I continue to justify blowing money on this?

My initial 3 month subscription is up in about a week, so $99 for another year. Just saw I don't have Road Atlanta to run in the GTC this week (and I looooove Road Atlanta) so I need that. And I feel like its a missed opportunity to only buy one item and not get at least three for a discount. So added the Late Model and Skip Barber for almost $40 on that order.

I initially signed up for three months as well (for $12 I think). After about a week I realized I want to stick with iRacing so I created a new account using a 12 months for $50 code. If you've already bought content then I guess this option isn't ideal for you anymore.
