Is it worht to change tyres in a DP at datona. Its alot of second you lose.

I had to pit on lap 4 after a collision after 3 cars in front of me spun going into bus stop and I had no where to go. I changed my tyres then, added fuel and after 13 minutes I was back out on track.
With these new tyres and heavy fuel load I was running high 1:41's low 1:42's which I will admit is pretty slow. (I also had engine damage due to the crash so my laps were about 0.700 - 1.000 off my original race pace). Anyhow, by the end of the race I was running mid to high 1:42's so the tyres didn't wear that much. I did however have to make a splash and dash adding 3 galllons of fuel.

I would say change the tyres if you get chance, but otherwise it wasn't much of an issue.

That crash ruined my race though... :grumpy:

ok thanks, i ask this becaus i never had any tyre problems in this game. Its like tyres never wears off.

Anyway, I did some test laps on daytona and its like its the first time i drive whit this car on this track. I remember me last season i did take the bustop chicane like a redbullplane and felt good in the car. Now i feel really not confident in the car at all, If i try to be fast i have massive oversteer...

My problem is the braking zone in the first corner. If I miss my braking mark by a metre I'll be off the track.

On a side note, does anybody race in the Indycars? I'm tempted to get them next but there are a couple of things I would like to know.

1. Are they any good? Handling wise?
2. Does the series have many people racing in it?
3. How popular is the Premier Indycar Series?
4. Isn't the DW12 planned sometime?
5. Is it and the racing in the series worth the $11.95?

At first it was mine worst corner but i seem to have more oversteer problems at the second corner. and the next, specially if i brake a bit to late.
at the first corner when i miss my braking i can use the big run off tarmac. i let my car go straight forward to stop faster whitout spinning.

I ran my 1st 80min Daytona race Saturday night.
Have to say, it was the most fun I've ever had sim racing.
I started with a full fuel load {22 gallons} and never had any
problems with tires going off. Had to do a quick 9 gal stop.
Started 18th {All DP's} finish 10th.:)

Right on, Grand Am is a fun series.

Usually a tire change takes less time than fueling, so there's no reason not to change. Tire wear isn't much of an issue in iRacing yet, but cooler tires make a big difference.

Eric.

Speaking of things, I think they need to work on rubber build up on track and tire wear more than the dumb windshield build up. It just honestly seems a little much at times, but it's kind of neat

Uh, yeah...the physics guys working on the surface model probably had no involvement in the windshield buildup. The surface model is going to be the next big thing to bring the NTM to life.

That would be great, I'm sure it's actually a bare to get the surface build up and tire wear right compared to say windshield, damage build up.

I have noticed something lately that didn't used to be for me. Damage is something I can see now, before I never could see on others or my car. Did this change recently?

You probably changed a shader setting.

Oh, and surface build up is far from all they'll be doing. Dave wants the surface texture to interact with the rubber. That's where tire wear in racing comes from, the track surface tearing off chunks of rubber.

I'm all for upgrades to help racing in general! I need to pick up this week's track Rockingham, it looks tough.

The only thing I've done recently was try to get my FPS better by turning off some stuff that now make no difference like crowd, infield and stuff like that. I'm glad I can see damage now but my FPS seems to during racea around 25-30 which sucks.

Why are we talking about track surface evolution? They need to fix the new tire model first. It's absolutely pathetic. That might be part of the reason why I can't get myself to jump back on to the Sim.

I wish I knew what was wrong with it even though I raced on OTM too but rookie series don't exactly tell you alot.

I'm starting to regret picking the Skip Barber and L79 for this season. They are both very fun to race but so easy to make a mistake. Lots of offtracks and spins. This weekend I got my SR down to 2.5...

Let's see if I can get it back to three this week.

What exactly is wrong with it? I've heard several complaints but nobody says exactly why they think it should be fixed.. I'm just curious.

We had a slight discussion on tires a few days ago but, here's a list of things that I can think of immediately off the top of my head.

- Little to no tire wear
- Fastest when they are cold
- If you overheat them they never cool down
- Little to no feedback from the ground to the wheel
- You can still slide at ridiculous slip angles and get away with it

That's 5 problems that I thought of in a matter of 30 seconds.

I'm focusing on Radical,Grand Am, and Prototype.
For the most part very clean racing.

I'm focusing on the Skippy too. It's hard as hell to drive, but rewarding when you actually hang on for a whole lap and nail a good time. I'm not consistent in it, so I've only raced once, but the race was awesome fun.

I'm sure my iRating and SR will see some damage in a few weeks, but I wanted more of a challenge from the Mustang.

The tire model is only half the picture.

Maybe another noob-question:

I intended to participate in a race. So when the race appeared in the list in red colour, I clicked on it and the countdown began. Before the countdown reached "zero", I clicked on "forfeit".

This happended 2 hours ago and now I notice in my race history, that this race counted for me (I had pole position btw lol) as "disconnected" and it cost me 108 iRating. wtf??? Is that normal?

Yes, I think so.
If you decide not to race and the countdown timer is under 2 minutes it counts as a 'forfeit' not a 'withdraw' and it affects your iRating.

Basically 'forfeit' means you are registered and the event has started (not necessarily the race, but the event) so you lose points. If it just says 'withdraw' there is no penalty.

I had the same thing when i started iracing. It doesn't suck, i love the rule.
Don't worry about the irating! since you are newbie, Irating is easly won back. If take iracing seriously.
