Well, that race sucked. It was great till the first caution at around lap 105. Started 12th and worked my way up to 3rd. I was last to pit during green when caution came out while I was in the pits. Got caught on tail end of lead lap and got waved around for restart. I'm back in the single file line on inside. The restart was ridiculous. Most had pitted 5 to 10 laps before me and I had brand new tires. Green flag comes out and car in front of me spins his tires and goes straight for the wall. Then guess what? Black flag for passing on inside:banghead: Not a damn thing I could have done to prevent it. If I would've waited going onto the throttle, I would've caused a huge wreck. Trapped me a lap down in 17th. And thats how I finished. Complete BS.

Oh well. I'll take my lumps and move on. As a result of being pissed, I ran a 29.973:tup: And it was 3rd oval race in a row with no incidents. Trying to look on the bright side:lol:

15 cautions. Same damn guy over and over again wrecking but not getting enough damage to take him out. I'll bet you can guess who he is by the incident count.

I got two 1x's avoiding crashes and one 2x avoiding a crash. What's funny is I started at the back, didn't race AT ALL, and still got 13th out of 30. I would even purposely pit under every yellow before we went 1 to green just so I could be at the back of the line. I got a BS black flag for passing under yellow from a car that crashed and a black flag for entering a closed pit. Otherwise I would have finished on the lead lap and probably been top 10. Ruined my incident free streak though for oval, I was at 8 I think, only needed 2 more for the safe driver level 2.

Oh well, I'm just glad it's over, that was freaking torture. Glad I didn't waste any time practicing for that race or really trying to race during it.

Won an SRF race earlier, then I hear over the radio: "You won! That's what happens when you have the best crew chief!"

First win of the season, so it felt good.

Ouch sucks about the black flag. Can't believe 29.9 was run. I barely got a 30.6!

My luck ran out on lap 88, 3 cautions to this point all of which happened in front of me and I had managed to stay clear of wrecking, 16th place, then 2 cars got together ahead, one of them went down to the apron then swerved back on into the wall in front of me. Even though I had backed off there was nothing I could do. Got collected and that was kaput. Disappointed mostly, but also happy that a: I made it that far in the first place being my first non super speedway nascar race and had only driven 3 laps of Vegas ahead o the start. And b: with that in mind actually running a good pace (for my split) racing side by side cleanly and pulling off some good overtakes made me very happy.

Roll on Bristol. Any tips? No idea how to run a short track.

Yup! The bank drops flat really fast and has a tendency to throw cars into the wall and bounce off. Good Luck 👍

Short track racing is all about exit speed (and keeping your car clean :sly: ) if you need to sacrifice entry a little, then do so, just not too much, find a balance.

Thanks for the tips. 👍

What would be considered average lap times? Using the fixed setup last night I was going between 15.8 and 16.34.

Hi guy's, I'm new to iRacing, just signed up and keen to get on track, BUT, My setting will sync up outside of a race/ practice room but when I go in one it won't sync, I sent a message to iRacing support and now I can't access anything, is this some safe issue they put up until the problem is sorted or is it something else?

No clue, I ran only the late model for a few practice sessions. When I don't know a decent lap time, I either check the iRacing forum or go to the world records and add 1-3 tenths and set goals by the tenth and pick the goals off in practice

Edit: slight rewording

Mid to high 15's will pole you pretty good. If you ride the wall (literally) you can do 14.2's. Saw a idiot doing it tonight. Some people will do anything to cheat the leader boards. I hit a 15.6 in practice after the carnage died down.

Nooooooo.

Don't help Dave, he just does things backwards and upside down for fun.

Or, don't help Dave because his problem was solved.

Your choice.

Asides from the maturity of the oval racers, what'd you think Dave? <--- Don't drive backwards. Dave smells the pelicans from miles away.

I had to calerbrate the wheel to the Alienware lap top programming then calerbrate the wheel to iRacing, the other part of my issue was I logged out then logged back in,

I've done atleast 5 oval races, only one I had issues with, the rest were hard but fair, thoroughly enjoyed them,

Also got my fist Pole at Lime Rock Park in the Mazda Cup, led for 15 laps and acquired a large lead, then some bone head exited the pits and drove clean across the white line and took me out, destryed the car, the "Damage over time" engine is very over done for short races, I was wrecked in a Late model race at Charlotte on lap 1 becaquse someone just wanted to run dirty and I spent the rest of the race in the pits,

I think the stewards need to watch the rooms more closely, this points system for incidents doesn't really work unless you win,

@Livemusic Here you go mate :)

Actually, I decided to just put all of my McLaren sets in the .zip. So, anyone is free to use them :) They're set up for my driving style though so, no guarantee that they will make you fast or anything.
Thanks. I forgot to come back here to get it for Motegi but I'll try those at the remaining weeks. 👍

Yah... I do oval racing (just started still rookie) and the hardest thing is racing clean. It was lap 28 of 40 at USA speedway I was in 2nd running a clean race and this guy was a few laps down in 13th and goes high in a turn and eases off the gas to let me buy (welll I thought). Once I pass him he comes and dive bombs me and I brake and he avoids me but then hits the outside wall and comes off and hits me in the side and I flip... So I guess some people get mad when you pass them.

Man, the Star Mazda is awesome at Interlagos, I'm loving it. Too bad I'll be away this weekend, so I won't get to race. :indiff: I didn't like the track at all with the SRF, so I'm suprised I enjoy it so much with the SM. I guess that extra power helps.

Speaking of the SRF, it's at Zolder this week. I SUCK at Zolder. I'm around 2 seconds off the pace, and I'm struggling to string more than a few laps together. Oh well, I'll do a race for the participation credits and move on to the next one.

It's rookie class more than anything. It gets better.

The hardest part I've found is getting in with a full group of clean racers, I've found that qualifying for events makes things better, specially on road courses, otherwise its to hard to get your grade up,

I'll be working to get my Oval license up from a B to an A this week. Motegi in the Indy car. Seem's like setup makes a HUGE, IMMENSE, MASSIVE (Ok, enough with the dramatic words) difference in lap time and race pace.

I think the Motegi oval in the Dallara is gonna be a blast. I'm only running fixed sessions, but I'll try to race a few times this week.

Let us know when you do a fixed race. If I'm at home, I'll definitely join in. I just tested in a fixed session and liked having to brake and be careful where you positioned your car during the corner.

I'll probably do one Friday night, 11pm JST, maybe 9pm JST. Then another couple on Saturday and Sunday, not sure about the time on those though, basically whenever the family gives me a break.

I may only be able to on Sunday and Monday. Maybe Saturday mid day. I just remembered that starting tomorrow night, I will be out of the house until Sunday morning lol.

I'll be racing the Dallara at Motegi this week as well. Also gonna try the Silverado at Iowa, probably tonight.

Heard some good news last night for us oval racers. It been announced that iracing is finally bringing a super late model to the service. There's been numerous polls on the forums to get a super late model having 100's of yes votes and very few no votes, but seems they are finally listening. For those that don't know the difference a super late model is basically the next step up from the current "limited" late model we have now. Compared to the current late model they are a couple hundred pounds lighter, offset chassis like the open wheel mods, wider tires and also around 600 hp instead of 375 in the current late model. It will probably be towards the end of the year before we see it. I'm so excited for it can't wait! :)

Although I don't oval race, that sounds great getting the late model, I purchased all the cars and I love hot lapping the ovals with the gen 6 and other NASCAR racers. One day if I improve enough I'll give ovals a try.

I can't stand short track racing for the most part, but I'll still give the Super Late Model a shot when it comes out. It's probably a long way off though.
