Well, depending on if you are an oval guy or a road course guy... The Legend would be for Ovals and the Miata will be for Road Course. Practice Practice Practice until you can run consistent laps without driving off the course. The amount of times that you crash or drive off the track can and will hurt you so, keep it to a minimum. And most importantly, have fun.

Thanks. I love both oval and road course racing. My first races didnt go so well, I was taken out twice and it dropped me from a base 2.50 to 2.38. Did some oval street stock practice and i went back up to a 2.50.

Safety rating(SR) doesn't apply in practice sessions but in TT's, qualifying and races. SR is separate for road and oval. You have a different SR for road and oval so Im assuming your first races were road races then once you did some oval laps you saw your oval ratings at the top on the screen.

I guess I was, but I thought I could trust you not to post false information..

But you would never let me down.. would you?

Why so much hostility? I think this is why I was never so fond of your posts. Never really seem to have nice things to say. Which isn't a problem as I often do a lot of complaining in this thread but, I guess it's probably annoying for others.

The only false information that I posted was something that had changed since my time in the Oval Rookie series. So I was completely unaware that the change had been made.

It's a bit of a strange change if you ask me. I know the legend seems to be harder to drive than the Street Stock but, Legends in real life are often seen as the first step up from karts.

I found this out also about Erik, thought he was a good friend I had made at iRacing/GTPlanet but within 2 posts that he made, it had all changed. Not sure why but Erik has not been kind to some of his friends.

I'm really sorry for offending you, it was not intentionally. But if you post false information and I correct you.. and the only thing you can say is..

"I thought you were done posting a few months ago?"

Seriously.. I'm hostile?

Yes, it is but at the time it was very difficult for a rookie to have any real control of such a lightweight short wheelbase car (before the recent updates), but either way I'm glad they threw LRP in week 8 every season since :)

Not too bad for a new V8 driver. I'm at a best of 1.08.8xx right now. Thats with a fair bit of tweaking on the baseline and low fuel. I have an optimal of 1.08.3xx, but I have trouble getting to my optimal in the V8. Top time I saw yesterday was a 1.07.9xx, but many of the top drivers still have yet to post times. Where you at Mad? I predict mid 1.07's will be the fastest. Maybe a bit lower with the draft.

The V8 really is a great car. Many don't give it the time it needs to properly learn how to drive it. It's the only car so far where it doesn't matter where I'm at on the grid, I have lots of fun with it.

You know me... Don't practice until the end of the week usually! Nah i've been super busy this week with end of semester Uni Exams and got the next few days filled. So first laps you'll see from me will be on the weekend. By the sounds of it, my teammate Josh Muggleton is in the 7's with no draft (1:07.9) so should be about a mid 7 at least for pole as you said. Depends on the draft though, worth a lot in a qualifying session here. I know my team is trying to setup drafting trains with each other already.

The V8 is not necessarily the most realistic car on the service, but in my opinion it's the most challenging to race competitively. Such a strong field of competition (especially in AUS/NZ) and you can race so closely with a bit of nose to tail contact. Not to mention the patience required to keep the tyres on the thing and not just burn them up in 2 laps. Very very tough car for a newcomer to learn.

I barely even practice anymore lol. I usually end up getting crashed by some knuckle head so, I don't even bother with it anymore.

That's not the only thing that I said... And I was observing that you were posting again, despite saying that you were done.

I came third in my first "real" oval race when i didnt get taken out on the first lap. It was so much fun. I battled for second for the whole race. Also, on a side note, a great workout for your arms and shoulder muscles.

Well I agree with you, I find the V8 incredibly difficult to drive. It seems anytime I give it to much throttle to soon the rear end slides out, Although I have only driven about 4 hours in the V8. I plan on hot lapping the V8 for the next year just to see if I can get faster with it.

I can do 20 laps in the V8 without incident. I still could not compete at your level or the level of the people you race with. I looked at your stats Madison and you have an amazing record. I will never be at that level, even in my dreams (lol)

I won my first race in iRacing today in the oval series. Started on pole avoided an accident at the start and slowy walked away from second place.

Yeah, the tyres aren't overly wide (285 wide on the old V8SC) and with 650hp it's a handful. Also weighs a lot, weighs approximately 1350kg (again, old V8SC specs). So you just have to be so careful with it, don't throw the weight around. You need to think smooth with every single input you make!

Thanks mate, the V8 Supercar has been pretty good to me over the past 3 years! Managed to grab a lot of pole positions, a lot of wins and 6 championships so I really couldn't be any happier!

I am so mad right now. Racing Late Models at Dover, and about half way through some guy comes on the track after a wreck, completely smoking his engine, and pulls out right infront of me. I can't see a thing, brush the wall several times, and when I ask him to move over, he starts harassing me. Eventually I get run over by a third car with fresh tires as he couldn't see where he was going either. Surely this is protestable, right?

I have been racing in the Grand AM series for the past 18 months, (DP) I am a right arm amputee (below elbow) and I don't use any aids at all. In fact I use the clutch for down shifting, same with the V8. I get along fairly good, although I have only won 1 race driving the DP. :)

It's not so much my arm that makes it hard for me, it's 36 years of excessive use of my remaining left hand/arm. It's in rough shape :D, couple that with being 53 years old and my eye sight is going as well. The thing is though I love racing.

When I was 25 years old there was no such thing as computers (for the masses) If only we had iRacing back then. :) Enough of the good ole" days :D I am interested in racing the V8, as you said, smooth and steady. I'll practice for at least 1 year and see if I can race. :)

I finally got both my SR's over 3.XX. I had my oval over the other day but, road racing was more difficult. Mostly due to my bad luck of getting stuck behind people who have no clue how to race. Or, getting caught up in accident caused by others.

congrats! the first win is special! 👍

SR is not effected by what position you finish in a race. Don't race people or crash and you will gain massive SR.

Thank you! Yes I learned that lesson after the first day. I've learned to put myself in less dangerous situations but, a lot of times I get caught in a situation where I cannot escape from a crash. Now don't get me wrong, I made my share of mistakes on the first day and hell made a few on the second but, I learned my lesson. I learned that, while I had decent racecraft, my lack of knowledge of the car(tracks are no problem)had caused me to make mistakes. After I spent a great deal of practice learning the Eunos Roadster. Every race after that on the road since then minus my last race at okayama in a Solstice(3rd place), I manage to get ran into or while trying to avoid people flipping and spinning in front of me that are usually a lap down, get ran into from the back. Other than getting ran into a lot, I'm having a blast. Lol

Guess I'll try some oval races this afternoon with the Silverado at Indianapolis and the IndyCar at Iowa.

Guess what week it is! Week 8, Legends at LRP ;)

Anyway we just did a NW league session last night, Legends and MX5 at summit point and it was a blast!

Oh awesome! Thanks for telling us that, I love the Legend on road courses. So much fun and provides close racing! We have a motorsport category in Australia called "Aussie Racing Cars", it's basically legends designed for road courses so good!

The ones that remind me of clown cars? Yeah, good, clean racing... But, I refuse to watch it, for fear I'll start laughing uncontrollably.

I got my oval D class license this morning I've had a lot of good races lately with nobody doing anything crazy for 40 laps.
*Edit* I got my road racing D license last night. It was way harder than my oval one. Every since the start of my career I always seemed to get placed in the races full of people not taking it seriously. I tried everything to avoid crashes. Start in the back , from pitlane, let everybody go at the start. Nothing worked. I had people tring to out brake me, directly behind my car, ramming me off the road. People slamming on the brakes on the straights in front of me. That's just a sample of some of the crap that happend to me. But i made it to D.
