I have to make a decision. I just got my SR over 4 for License D oval. All I have to do is 4 D or higher TTs or races to get my C license. If I do that, I can't run rookie SS anymore. I'm thinking of going to the indycar series. That's more my style than nascar. I'll have to buy a bunch of tracks though. I was thinking Motegi and Indy for sure since they have road courses. Any suggestions for series or tracks?

Indy oval is so much fun in my opinion, it's the only oval series that I've stuck with consistently. I only run fixed normally just because I don't have time to run the longer races normally but it's still a ton of fun.

My recommendation would be to take advantage of the current $100 iRacing Credits for $75 deal (can be found on the main member site page) and then buy 9 tracks and the Indy car. This means you will effectively pay about $8 for each track because of the $25 free credits and the 20% discount for buying 6 or more items at a time. This way you can run a near full season for $75 which is much less than if you bought the stuff one at a time.

But the free credits deal ends on August 31st, so you would have to take advantage now.

Just my recommendation. :)

Also you could start running Indy right away since you are D 4.0+

Well, just yesterday I was saying that the Trucks were fun around Mosport. They changed the setup today and it was awful. Way too much oversteer and it's quite a handful for the 15 laps.

If you get to C why can't you run rookie SS anymore?

Is it because they have a SS C Class series?

I know I see A class people running mx-5 cup.

Yeah you can still run mx5 cup if your out of rookie but you cant run rookie SS if your out of rookie. They made this change a couple of seasons ago because bunch of guys were running rookie SS races to farm irating cause they wanted to run for pro Im assuming. It all started when they went to the new tracks schedule for rookies. Guys would just do a ton of SS races at Charlotte to farm irating. Guys were going from a 2000 irating to nearly 5000 in a season just from doing rookie SS races all day and night. I actually knew few of the guys that were doing it cause they raced in a league I use to race in. Most of them are 15-16 year old kids that were doing it. I kinda agree that they did it cause it was getting out of hand. I joined one just for fun once and it was ridiculous not only was most the driving terrible cause its the same couple guys in the top split, but for example the sof was over 3000. That's just stupid high for a rookie series race.

Thanks, I was going to get the $100 iRacing credit deal anyway. I was going to spend more on the road side but I don't really need more cars and I already have most of the tracks that I need on the road side. Any thoughts on what tracks I should get first? The only oval that I have bought is Daytona, which doesn't look like it is used for Indy.

Does anyone have experience with the Carburetor cup? Is it a crash fest or can you find good racing there?

ovals would be Richmond (since that's coming up very soon for the Nascar series also), Indy, Iowa, Kansas, and Miliwakee. If you wanna go ahead and buy the others on the Indy Schedule, do it. I'm just saying which are popular for other series also. For the Road, Walkens Glen should be one to pick up.

Looks like he wants to be able to race more than four times a week without affecting his championship points. I think it may be against the rules but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Yeah, the Carb Cup sounds like an invitation to a demolition derby. No iR or SR impact? Open to rookies? Does anyone even finish those races intact?

Carby cup is hit and miss. I've had some good clean races , it depends on the entrants. Occasionally you get a smart guy in there that just want to create mayhem but most of the time it's innocent mistakes that cause the wrecks. A good quali time will get you up front and out of the potential war zone down the back

It's a good place to learn how to race oval though. No consequences , races every hour and good participation. 👍

PS, you can still protest in Carb Cup. Done it a few times because people don't understand that you can still be protested. I don't wanna be on track with a guy who goes to the start of the pack rolling to the start and wrecks the field going backwards.

I confess that the idea behind the Carb Cup really appeals to me, especially given the cars and tracks used. But I'm not sure I'm willing to pony up $50 for the content just yet. I'm still learning how to handle a simple street stocker, after all.

I went a little wacko last night. I got the $75 and $20 credit deals then bought Talladega, the Gen6 Fusion car so I could run the Carb cup. I also got the Indy car and 8 other ovals for the indy series. I hope I'm not making a mistake.

As for the street stock, I thought that I found a bunch of time while running a time trial. I was running consistent sub 36.4s with a fast time of 36.311 almost 2/10s faster than my last qualification time but when I tried qualifying last night I couldn't beat a 36.44.

Just my opinion here, but I think the Dallara (Indy) is the best oval car in iRacing. Of course we all have personal preferences, but it's the one I enjoyed the most.

If you aren't a snob who only runs open series and is completely against the fixed series, you can get an official race virtually every day of the week at any time during the day. Richmond this week has been quite challenging but a really fun track where a couple strategies come into play (keep it in 5th the whole time to be a little safer at corner exit or downshift to 4th and have more potential to get sideways on exit).

Anyways, I think the racing is great! You aren't going to be bumping and rubbing like the stock cars, but the racing is still incredibly close. For the most part it's a great group of guys racing, just ignore the forum drama.

I keep it in 5th... I see no reason to downshift to 4th.... saves time and I don't have to worry about shifting and turning. During the race, if I change tires, there will be times where I have to use 6th, that's until the new wears off, but the race is over before then anywho. Fastest is 16.099, but I can do better off turn 2. I just get scared on fast laps. haha.

Good Luck to all of you guys racing the 120 minutes of Thunder. I may spectate one of the top three splits, it depends on when it starts. I hope you guys have a great weekend.

I'm going to try and get home in time for it. I've done a bit of practicing in the McLaren there. And have run thousands of laps in the McLaren so, I know the car like the back of my hand.

The question is, do I take the taxi home at 2AM for the race or not... 60 dollar taxi ride mind you lol

Is it me or seems like setups are less stable this year in the DP? I know I'm no where near as fast as top guy with a 1:44-1:45 but seems like all setups have a weird issue at times.

I'm excited just trying to lay down a game plan of where to start because either DP will be crazy start or moving through the pack will be risk

The DP is a tough car to tame this build. I had to reconfigure my Watkins Glen setup just to get back to the low 1.41s I can run. I've found a little more speed at Mosport. I'm in the mid 1.12s now

When you get one of those deals with a certain amount of credits where you spend a certain amount of content (like I did when I bought Mosport and the Truck), do you still pay for the credits? Just confused on that.

First you pay for the credits so you click on the $100 for $75 and pay for it. Then when you want to purchase something it will automatically deduct it from your credits. They are two (or more) separate transactions. You still get your discount when you buy 3 or more or 6 or more. So I got 30% off or so on the credits and 20% off on the content. I ended up paying $95 for over $150 of content.

Taking advantage of their deals is just one of the ways to make iRacing cheap. The other way is to take advantage just by racing regularly and earning the $40 of credits per year, plus the $5 annual bonus. It's not much money, but over time it adds up.

If I had a year's subscription, sure I'd do that in a heart beat. Unfortunately, the most I could afford was this three month Subscription and I'm not so sure three months even counts as one whole season.

It all depends when you join, a season is 12 weeks (3 months) but if you join halfway into the season you won't get participation credits. The key is to participate (finish 50% or more of an official race) in at least 8 of the 12 weeks. Then you get the participation credits which I believe is $4 for D and C series and $7 for B and A series. Not much, but every little bit helps.

I'm pretty sure that you can use the credits for renewals. If you can get the credits now then wait until November when the black Friday deals come out to renew. You'd end up getting a really nice discount on your subscription.

Maybe they were just doing a little creative marketing (making people think it might not happen) but one of the staff members the other day said "we still haven't decided what we are going to do for Black Friday."

So the $49 annual membership deal might not come up again this year, might be something completely different.
