ok that video is great.
Love the ending

ya the crash modeling could be better.

But I don't think that is where money should be spent on a game like this.

Personally I'd like a few more car choices. Comparable cars in same classes.

maybe s2000, miata, boxter, z4 racing against solstice. just an example.

anyway I just joined waiting for my g27 to arrive. I got sick of waiting for GT5

Been racing for a week or two, am absolutely hooked!

Best result is a 2nd at lime rock, the races are so intense, have never felt so pumped on the first lap of any game ever as I do in this.

Bit pricey however, but the fun I've been having is making me thinkbit is worth some purchases!

Same here. About 3 weeks now. Although ive had the worst luck last week on Lime Rock. Couple it with a speeding ticket i got wednesday ($382) :(

Laguna Seca is my best track so far with 8 wins 👍

I have a week left till my trial runs out. I might consider getting the 2 year subscription, although i have yet to purchase any additional tracks and cars. Im just waiting for a promotion :)

I loved the solstice on Laguna seca, hated it on lime rock, that track breeds bad driving :).

I would recommend only getting a 3 month/ year subscription as there will likely be some offers around june time which may lower the price, and you would be stuck with the price you paid for the whole 2 years.
If you can justify a bit of content, the skip barbers have the best racing on the sim with the most populated races.
I can't wait till the V8 supercar comes out next week, it will be amazing.

Good luck racing :)

@leewigeebo
I know what you mean at feeling pumped, I always have a surge of adrenaline on the grid, couple that with trying to think of a strategy for the first corner/race makes it a really awesome experience.

I suggest you to consider max 1-year sub... like Scoobasteve said, there might be coming some lower subs in future again, if memberbase keeps growing.

When you really start to think about Season 2, and which series you will focus... I must also recommend Spec Racer. There is some great racing too, and you dont need so many tracks to buy than with Skippy.

Skippy-series is blast... that's true. It is also very competitive cause there is so many great/fast racers every season. You need to buy quite many tracks if you want to race whole season, but those same tracks are widely used in all higher series too.

Remember to think few times what you will buy, and buy minimun 6 tracks/cars if you do... that way you get that max -25% discount volume what iRacing offers. In forums, there is next seasons series and track-schedules published in 'Announcements'-section. (I think) ...so check that out and plan what you will race. I recommend to focus to one or two specific series if you want to build your SR and iR seriously. Jumping from car to another can be easy to Aliens, but if youre just normal human, it may cost some SR in future. :dopey:

Spec Racer and Skippy are quite same when it comes ask about their handling, so you should think about buying tracks what they both use in their series. 💡

Alright, thanks for the recommendations. I guess im just a little trigger happy. I haven't really been to the forums as much. I guess i need to pay a visit :)

Heck, im not saying you shouldn't stay around for 2 years :), Just you may get better offers if you go shorter term (as strange as that sounds). Plus with alll that cash left over from a shorter subscription get yourself some tracks/content.

five tracks i would recommend along with the skippy (6 pieces = big discount)
1)watkins glen (popular)
2)zandvort (new, should be popular, STUNNING)
3)Virginia (very strange, if you have not done a lap before it will take about 7 laps till you have discovered its crazy invisible corners)
4)Road America (I enjoy this track, long and relatively simple, a little too long for the skip but I have had good racing there)
5) Sebring ( really well modeled bumps/ close racing)

Those coupled with the basic subscription will allow you to race 8 out of the 12 weeks. Just my opinion though, Personally I would also replace sebring with Brands but going on enjoyment not how popular the races seem. Oh and maybe Road America with Road Atlanta, But when you start trying to choose its very hard, I wouldn't not recommend a single track on the game :), Hell get a bank loan and enjoy :D Just trying help out really as the amount of stuff on offer is really too hard to choose from, hope it helps a little.

Mmm definatley take your time selecting tracks, unless your loaded!

I hastily bought the skippy (thankfully) and silverstone, only to find when i started figuring out what its all about, that hardly any races are run at silverstone and that i wouldnt be driving thw skippy till my SR grew!

Gonna do a 3 month sub, get watkins n run the spec ford i think, still up in the air about ovals, too much wrecking!!

What week is it right now? I get my replacement wheel tomorrow and my sub ran out two days after the wheel broke so I let it run its course.
If it's Week 13 I plan to re sub and get my C road license otherwise I'm just going to wait two weeks until I can really afford to do it.

Ovals get much better in even the D class car (forgot what it is) Wait til you get your C class though, trucks are awesome.

It's week 13 currently :D

Since im a Rookie, i haven't dared touch any of the advance cars. Just competing with the Spec Fords right now.

dang man, I need to get into IR. Need my wheel back first though. All this talk about how fun the online races are has me wanting to try it. My fear is how populated or unpopulated the servers will be when I wanna race during late night hours like at say 2AM. Are there still races going on during that time? I'm in California.

iRacing and iOpener could be a great combination. Not only you can compete online against others and real race car drivers but you could also participate in real races in real time.

iRacing developers should have to look into this.

You should get it in right now!

There's a current promotion for $10 dollars that includes the 3 standard cars and 7 tracks, PLUS it includes the Star Mazda Open Wheel car and another road track, Mosport. It's week 13, like an All-Star week: iRacing is running a competition right now with various prizes. Top winner gets a chance to compete with a real Formula 1 driver.

I signed up last month for $5 promotion. Thinking of renewing for a 3 month sub.

👍

Anyone up for some racing in the following days??? I just purchased Iracing over the weekend and was looking for some GTP mates to race with

I'll be retuning next Friday, do you race oval or road? I assume your still in the rookie cars?

I only do road course racing. And yea, I'm still a rookie :dopey:

Im down :) Did you get the Indy Promo?

Nope...I didn't see that promo at the time unfortunately :ouch: However I have purchased Phillip Island and Sebring, as well as the Riley Prototype, Ford Falcon, and Corvette C6R 👍 Suprisingly I found Sebring to be quite awesome when I was testing out the Riley Proto around there :sly:

When would be best for us to meet up for a race/practice? And what combo of car and track do you suggest?

I think once I get a job I'll get a subscription. This just looks like too much fun.

Hey guys. Lame question upcoming: It says I need 128 MB video card. I only barely know what this means. My machine meets all the other requirements but video card is "mobile intel 4 series express chipset" which has only 64 MB 'dedicated video memory' but 1695 MB 'total available graphics memory' (according to my system settings). So, yeah, what should I do? I am going to upgrade to a nice desktop PC this summer (probably in two months or so) but it would be nice to get some experience with the physics and to get in on the Indy deal that is currently running. I don't care about graphic settings, but if it's going to be a choppy mess no matter what I'm not terribly interested in that either.

Thanks for any help.

You can try the 5-dollar promo (1 month) which is what i did (not sure if its still up though. The Indy 500 promo just came out). I just renewed my subscription 3 months. The 5 dollar promo comes with the basic package of 3 cars and 7 tracks. Number seems small but trust me, its tons of fun. The modest speeds of the Rookie cars make for great and close racing :D bumper to bumper 👍

You should sell your PC :)

Im not that too computer savy but i recently been learning and built my first gaming PC. Anyway, you have an integrated graphics card which means it is built-in on your mother board. 128 MB is the minimum requirement, which is pre-historic these days imo. 64mb is dinosaur era. You need atleast 500MB of dedicated memory to be able to run anything close to smooth. You can build a modest gaming PC for less than $600 bucks, which is what i did. I have an nvidia 8800GTS video card, a lower class card compared to the new ones, bought it for $40, but still does the job good. No lag even with 20 cars on the grid (but that also depends on what other components are working around your GPU). I recommend you to build your own PC. Buying a pre-built desktop is a a rip-off. But hey, to each to its own. Building a PC to me is much like working on my car :) it feels good to use what your own hands have created.

p.s. to the nerds, please correct me if i had any info wrong. peace.

Wow... that's great to hear!

Youre going to be noticed there Pal... that's for sure. Keep your head cool, and be patient about finding good touch for iRacing before going to races. Every race counts, and you cant never get rid off your personal statistics... so if you care about stats, it's good to keep that in mind.

Check Greger Huttu from 'Drivers' if you want to set up good point to beat! :dopey:

Haha, thanks for the reply. I won't be selling this computer as it is a laptop which was never really designed for gaming. I am using it for university stuff, but it does run GTR2 and also rFactor pretty smoothly with decent settings so I thought maybe I'd have a shot!

It is encouraging to hear that the computer you have built runs iRacing so smoothly. It is my plan to basically build a computer that from the sounds of it will be quite similar to your machine. It's basically going to be my racing computer, hah :dopey:. Anyway, it looks like it'll be another couple months before I'm in on the iRacing fun.

BUT... does anybody know if it's possible for me to buy a membership under the Indy deal currently running and just not activate / use that membership until I have my new computer? Or will the 3 months begin running down from the moment I buy my membership? That's pretty much my last kick at the can for getting in on this deal!

And my proverbial "last kick at the can" is that I can't become a member, although I'd like to.

I don't have the means to pay online and I'm not going to bother a friend. :guilty:

Ahh i didnt quite notice the "Mobile" part...also 1695MB of shared memory is actually more than enough :sly: see, im still learning! Buy yah, i dont think you can do that. Once you pay for it, its activate then and there. If you can play rFactor smoothly with the laptop, im sure you'll be able to play iRacing smoothly, too 👍 i say go for it :)

What's your name? ill put you on my friends list.

I have the Indy Car and Indianapolis. Also have the V8 and Phillips island, and sebring 👍

Im still a rookie though so i dont have the proper license to participate on any of the upper level series. You can host a race if you want though, which cost money too. I just renewed my sub and im still working with the Rookie Soltstice and Spec Ford. I frequently race between 2:00pm-10:00pm PST (Solctice).

Right now the solctice is at Lime Rock. Good small track for close racing :sly:

I couldn't take it anymore, I re-upped tonight. Shoot me a PM if you want to race. 👍

Just raced on Lime Rock. Started on Pole and led without incident until the last lap where my tire caught the
grass on turn 1... had about a 20+ second lead from that point. Why does that always happen? I think i was
just too laid back at that point... i hate grass. Except the one kind where it gives you wings... btw, i finished 2nd.

This is my second account so im starting from scratch with a 2.50 Safety Rating. I can't help but notice that i
was paired with guys with mostly 2.50-2.60 range, so there was a lot of blocking from guys i was about to lap.
Do you get paired with peeps with the same SR?

Man, I want to try this SO BAD! Too bad I only have measly dual-boot MacBook that just barely runs Race 07. Well, I'm waiting to hear back on a second job, and when that happens I'm going to buy a refurbished Quad-Core tower from Best Buy. Then... Well, you could probably guess what I'll be doing first (ha ha).

One of these days Im going to have to get on a private session with you guys. I'm having so much trouble ( Well was, now it's Laguna this week ) on Lime Rock. The best I can turn in is a low 1:06. :yuck:  :banghead:

I watch guys in races and practice fly by me. I try and follow them through their line and end up with 30 incidents for that session. Should have been a 3+ Rookie by now. :sly:

If any on is on EST time and wants to play a little follow the leader, please, let me know.
