The combination of the Lotus 49 in iRacing and the other vintage F1 cars in rFactor2 *might* just be enough to finally sway me away from GPL.

Bah, who am I kidding? As long as their are still leagues around for GPL I'll still be playing it.

hmm...i am 90% sold, might go out tomorrow morning to pick up the PC. I think I will pay that bit extra for i5...will the performance be that much diff? the AMD is well above the min requirements...

As someone who is still fairly new to GPL and has been playing it for a few days now, I honestly don't know if ANY other sim will pull me away from it. It's that good. The F2 mod + 60fps + Dundrod = ORGASM.

well those cars sound great, really interested in the lotus and McLaren but without purchasing these cars, how do you know if you like the feel of them? i.e. for me, I won't be going anywhere near the skip barber or VW, just won't do it for me.

I think I will stick with the Mx5 as its my favourite car.

The Mclaren deal seems pretty big so i'd have to imagine that that car will be spot on hopefully. Also other people will post reviews about it before you decide to buy.

There's no way to tell if you will like it or not.

If you can adapt your driving style to each car, there is no reason than you should completely dislike any of them, unless we are talking about the races they participate in (I hate oval, so I dislike the oval cars)

Depends on what you want, if you're a hardcore simracer it's definitely woth it! For me it's a no-brainer. Just think of it this way, is GT5 worth the 400 bucks for the PS3? GT5 is the only reason I bought the PS3, sure there's some other games I play like MW3, but my main reason for buying the console was GT5, same for the PS2 and PS1. If you ask me right now is GT5 worth the $400 I'll tell you HELL NO!! But that's a completely different subjest, as for iRacing? I'd definitely do it again!

Well said, Jav!

I also love the PC for having a more open format than consoles and much better gaming experience (imho).

I also doubt we will ever see a realistic game such as iRacing, NKPro, GTR3 on a console. These are the kind of racing games I want to play (imho, ymmv).

I say get a PC!
👍

Hmm.. Do you get auto promoted after a certain point?

I was a rookie, now it says Class D.

Summit point with the legends is a blast!

yeah, I believe if you get your SR up to or past 4.0 and have completed the 4 races or TTs for the MPR of current license you get immediately promoted to the next license level.

WTG!

This is how I feel iRacing has separated itself quite well from other sims. They have a diverse lineup of cars that feel distinctly different. The McLaren is going to add another level with it being a MR race car.

At first I hated the Jetta. I just didn't understand how to get it around the track. Got some pointers from a few members here, ran in the GTP Jetta league, and actually like the Jetta now while also being pretty quick in it. That car has some nasty of throttle oversteer and on throttle understeer, but when you adapt to it and find out what the car needs, its a lot of fun.

Also, I didn't care for oval racing till the NTM. On the OTM I felt like I was steering to the right more than the left just to go quickly. All that has changed now on the NTM. You actually turn left to go left. Over driving into corners will overheat the right front causing any previous understeer condition to magnify. Abusing the right rear off corners will do the same with oversteer. Setups on the oval side are very important. Not so much out right speed, but in controlling the fall off of the tires. I now find oval racing quite enjoyable, especially the Silverado.

I haven't found a car I don't really like yet. A few of them I'm not very fast in like the HPD and Star Mazda. But I'm pretty quick in the Jetta, Mustang, C6.R, and Silverado. They just fit my style better than others, but I'm working on the the ones I'm struggling in to be a well rounded sim racer. Finding what each car wants in iRacing is all part of the fun iRacing provides.

The i5 (2500k i'm assuming) will definitely be worth the extra. Spend $40 on a good fan (CoolerMaster Hyper212+ or something of similar performance) for overclocking and it'll be great.

Ok, here's the extra 10% you need. rFactor 2, with the possibility of unlimited ammounts of mods and a very promising platforme in the Beta stages you will get every car and series you'd ever want. P-C.A.R.S, incredible graphics, ever evolving phisycs and content promises to make up for a mindblowing simracing experience! GT-R3 is being developed at the moment and already the sounds are amazing. Asseto Corza, although there's not much out yet the expectations are very high.

So yeah, a simracing PC is definitely worth it!

Yes, that's what you call fast tracking it trough the license. I did it this way all the way to B license and am looking to finally get promoted to A license this Monday.

Awesome.. I'll need to get through D by Monday.

All you'll need is to meet the MRP races on a class D car and get up to D 3.00, I'm not sure if you'll be able to do that the only D license car runing at the moment is the Star Mazda on the World Cup events wich ends tonight at 6:00 PM EST.

I looked at the MPR and it said i was eligible for a promotion.

Edit, just checked it again.. Guess it didn't update when I first received the D, I do need the 4 races.

When will the track change on the W13 Legends series?. Right now it is at Summit Point short course. It will be a crashfest if I try to race here. practice sessions were crashfest.

ok so far. got owned by Laguna Seca - did so many laps in GT5 on this track and i fail so hard in iracing - this is good, I am going to get me monies worth. Lime Rock is easy but its fun, want to get my lap under 1.xx.xxx in the mazda and i think that should be pretty good and i can challenge in a race. Seca is probably not at my skill level right now. A few questions

1. where are some nice places to get setups for cars and how do you install them?
2. Not that I want to turn them on during races, but I would iike more aids when I am testing a new track and slowing turn one by one off...checking the configurations, there seems to be only option to turn one of them on and not all on/off...
3. where to see a record of your lap times during test? I dont want to keep a excel file, be easier if it was in game.

Thanks

1. Tradingsetups.com - I think it's this, a sister site of tradingpaints. Either that or the official sub-forums for what ever series you're running.

2. Not too sure over this one.

3. I think the default button is Tab, push this during your session and a little timing box should appear on the bottom left of your screen, pressing Tab multiple times cycles through different time options.

Hope these help.

1. The forums are an awesome place to get sets. And you don't have to install anything. Just download them, then put them in the mydocuments/iracing/setups/(corresponding car). Then you just copy the .sto file to that folder.

2. It has different settings to turn on and off things.

3. Do you mean while you in the test session? Or are you talking a few days afterwards. If it is during test you just click the "laps" button. Otherwise you could go to the iRacing members home page; events/results/corresponding event.

Hope that helps.

Nice! welcome to iRacing.

hmmm...After you enter an event click on the "options" button (near top right) and IIBC the 4 aids are AUTOBLIP, DRIVING LINE, BRAKING ASSIST, and ACCELERATION ASSIST. I am at my work computer so I cannot confirm but I believe these options have a checkbox for ON/OFF.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

1.But during testing, it seems I can only use one of the driving aids. Its a bit odd. Its a drop down menu and you click on which one you want. Totally different to the screen shots I have seen.

2. Yea, I was hoping I could see my test lap times a few days after. is there a way?

3. I also have mirrors off, but should this be on to give myself better spacial awareness?

1) No idea on the driving aids.

2) Use the delta splits, there you'll see your personal best, your session's best, you'r optimum and your last lap time plus you'll get a HUD bar at the top of the screen letting you know how far are you from your optimum lap time. Great tool to have in any session!

3) Use your virtual mirror and most important use your spotter and F3 box.

Cheers, for people who don't know, you hit tab in testing to bring up the delta splits.

And I assume when you click on a series and on the top right hand corner if it says MPR, it means it'll count SR, iratings etc and if theres nothing there, it means it won't count anything

The only series that don't count towards SR are the "fun" series like Formula Fun and whatever the oval one is. Occasionally there are others, but the two I mentioned are almost always there.

Oh cheers, so anything with fun in it...hmm I only have the enduro at spa. Don't have spa so I think I will sit this one out.
