You know, I think iRacing should just ditch the current F1 Fun series and go for a Proto/GT Fun series. It would certainly be more popular than the F1 wich is pretty much dead!
 
Cadillac is free and only running 4 tracks for now. So that's ~$40

You should be able to use the remaining $60 to buy the Skip and most of the remaining tracks.
 
Not sure what the issue is? If you got $100 then you get 20% discount like superbike says. You can easily get both seasons cause the tracks mostly all overlap. If you have to drop a track I'd recommend Brands Hatch maybe? Everything else on Skippy schedule looks 100% solid

I could see that possibly working.

However I think one of the reasons the FW31 fun series is dying is because there aren't enough drivers like me. Not saying I'm special, it's just there are tons and tons of points addicts who are competing for championships so they limit their racing. I don't care about my iRating or my points, I just want to have fun and race, if more people were like that, more people would give the series a shot I think. Most people seem to be in it for the points while the fun is secondary, I'm in it purely for the fun.
 
I completely see your point! I'm on that same boat right now! I guess it's just that when you see you have a real shot you just go for it! For last season I did it just like you, till I found myself leading my division on the Indy Fixed series, I just had to go for it! This season I knew from the start I'd go for the Vette and right now I'm 2nd trailing by 20 points, all my attention has completely gone into that particular car.
For next season I'll just sit back and enjoy all cars!

Wait just wondering, to be in a skippy season, don't you need to purchase all of the tracks?
 
The bad thing about having a low iRating you can probably get dissed hard if you open your mouth to give advice on the official forums. I'd say if you iRating is lower than 1500 you will probably get dissed sooner or later

Hasnt happened too me tho cause I always make sure to humble myself and absorb any knowledge the more experienced drivers care to share. But I do see low iRating folks get dissed a little here and there. I got my Oval iR up to 1500 now so maybe I can start talking more in that area. Need to get my Road iR up to 1500 tho

So yeah for myself I plan to stick to one car for the most part for a single week. Now Ovals on the other hand I dont need to practice much. Just 50 or so laps I think I can hit Top 5 fairly easily

Right now when I try to join skippy season it says purchase required. I only have to purchase Zandvort for me to race in it for now?
 
If you don't own the car or the track it is running this week, you will need to make a purchase.

But don't just purchase one item, purchase as much as you can so you can get the discount. As long as you are planning to run a full (or near full) series next season, you should buy all the tracks together.

People who judge the quality of one's responses based on iRating are idiots.

Now if the discussion is about something like how to win races, ok fine, I'm not going to leave my input. But for most subjects, iRating shouldn't have any effect.
 
Yeah get Zandvoort we're running that right now in Star Mazda series. Great track

Like superbike says you only need like 8 out of the 12 tracks to get 'official' credit for completing the season and get $4 credit. Not a whole lot but it can help a tiny bit haha. I've just burned through all my credits. I'm pretty complete on Road tracks but I await a special or at least Twin Ring Motegi to get released before I buy more content

Man I wouldnt mind trying that new GT series just a tiny bit. I bet it will be fun w/o worrying bout the 20+ HPD cars trying to pass ya every couple secs

I'm going to purchase probably 5 pieces of content today, I already have the car and it is really fun to drive! It is unforgiving though if you start oversteering.
 
As long as I can get the time each week, I'll probably be running the following series:

1) Cadillac Cup
2) GT Series (Ford GT)
3) Trucks
4) Indy Fixed (Oval and Road)
5) Riley DP (Grand Am)

Other than that, if I get some extra time I'll test out a couple different series sporadically.
 
If I were you I'd get Mid ohio, Watkins Glen, Infineon, & Mosport. Right there you're set for both seasons pretty much. Your last wildcard can be Brands Hatch in case you hate the Skippy. It's not very popular I think but it is pretty course. Just not ran very often in the series I participate in (basically never).

* I like Oulton Park much better than Brands Hatch personally!

2) Proto/GT Fixed
3) Radical SR8
4) FW31
5) Grand Touring Cup

For the rest I'll be joining some DP/Caddy leagues!
 
thats a crap load of leagues, jealous that you guys have so much time on your hands. I even struggle with the one series.
 
I don't have that much time on my hands, I just don't take any of them seriously. I download setups from the forums for open series. I run enough practice to know the track well enough to not be a danger, which is normally about 10 laps since I know most of the tracks already. So I hope for Top 5 finishes, I don't even really try for wins.

So with the test sessions, practice, and time trials you run, you probably aren't that far off of the time I spend. I'm jealous of you guys that can have so much fun running 1 or 2 series. I just don't have fun that way, but it kills my iRating, I think if I focused on one series I could get a 2000+ iRating.

My goal will be to run one official race every other weekday and a few on the weekend.

Lol! I don't think anyone can seriously dedicate to more than 1 series, any mortal that is! For the aliens out there sure! They can run 10 laps and beat the snot out of everyone else on race day, for us mortals we need to at least put in 1-2hrs a week in practice alone to be competitive!
I mentioned I look forward to drivind in those series, not race competitively. I'll be picking a different one each week depending on the car/track combination.

Strange. I only have fun if I run one car for a very long time (several months) and one track per week at most. I really enjoy analyzing a track with a given car: learning precise braking points, how much to brake, turn in points, lines, where to get back on the trottle, etc.
Then my heart really gets pumping when I'm locked in battle with someone who knows the track just as well or better than I do. :drool:

The down side is I don't get to try many cars or tracks. I'm thinking of running Jav's Cadi series, but if I do I'll have to drop the skip and only race the Cadi for the entire season. Tough choice. I think I'll do it though.
 
I rarely get into a race in which I'm not in a close race with someone. If I'm battling for 1st or 15th doesn't really matter to me, I just want the battle.

Everyone does things a little different, you enjoy mastering a single series, I enjoy spreading my time and attention over multiple series. Neither way is wrong as long as we are having fun. :)
 
Yeah just for me to be any kind of decent at a road course I have to practice like all week long and I don't have much time to practice due to my demanding job, family, friends, etc.

Now Short Ovals on the other hand I can ramp up quite a bit faster.

I am pretty envious of the aliens though. They just simply show up at a track and master the thing in like 10 laps or so as far as I can tell. Maybe cause they've no doubt done the tracks. They've been with the sim since day 1 so they've seen it all. I must move in slow motion in their eyes. So glad Star mazda has all these splits so I dont have to race against them.

I am slowly seeing everything work wonderfully in this series. In Grand Am series we had no splits. So I just got punked by aliens all season long (I only claimed my Division titles cause all the aliens were in the same Division together making each other's life hell). But in Star Mazda we got splits and the car behaves more predictable over a long race than the Riley (on OTM dunno bout the NTM)
 
Aliens? I've seen that a few times, I'm assuming You're talking about the people who are really good and progress fast?
