My rig is almost finished! I have all the support arms screwed in and there is absolutely no wobble! I just need to go to the hardware store to buy more 2 1/4 inch screws and more mdf boarding to finish the flooring and table top! :dopey:

We need pictures of that thing ASAP!!

Did you guys see there working on graphics?

I think this looks amazing!

Just a shame we need to wait for a few months for every track to receive this treatment.

Yeah, I'm very happy with this latest graphics update, it gives the track and surrounding areas a much more realistic feel. Especially the grass, it actually looks like grass now.

Especially for some of us that spend more time in the grass then others. :D

anyone know why so many people dc in the SM races @ watkins? some guys dc'ing with only 4 incidents etc

If they have 4 incidents there is a high chance they made car to car contact and the car is finished. 👍

Don't forget the golden rule- Everyone and their Daddy shows up for Watkins Glen. We're getting so much traffic it's going into 3 splits which I've never seen before.

I tell you one thing. This iRating system is working perfectly. This is exactly where I am supposed to be split wise. Sometimes I'll do very good and get congrats from my fellow racers. Sometimes tho I'll make a mistake tho. Since I'm now up towards the front if I make a mistake it can cost others their race too.

My last race I was a Lap 1 hero fighting to hold my 2nd place spot and spun out. I caught the car but my competition followed too close and tapped me. We both had to pit and fight our way back into the top 10. But others were not so fortunate when they tried to dodge us and ended their race!

I'm having a blast tho every race and I am learning a lot. Just need to settle down and pace myself

[EDIT] What a BIZZARE race

I think almost the entire grid got into a major incident. I was doing my thing, dodging wrecks and listening to my spotter. But they finally got me. I felt very frustrated but I calmed myself down. Took the tow. Played with my kids & talked to the wife during the break. I refuse the optional repair and try to pull out and find out my car is not really drivable. I take another 2 min tow then take the optional 3 min repairs. By this time I'm down to 7th and I'm 4 secs off my normal pace. Still managed to finished 5th somehow.

I wished everyone could have just driven clean. I was having such a fun race before all the wrecks. You know it's bad when you see all those DNFs.

I hope to get time to make a wreck video about all the carnage I've witnessed at the Star Mazda championship at the lower splits. But I've had a lot of great finishes as well and the car is pretty tough. I've seen my car take a lot of hits and still roll across that finish line. So I am still very happy this could have gone much, much, worse

I'll be racing in the Continental Endurance Series league race at 2320GMT (7:20pm Eastern), at www.glaciertv.com. Check both channels, its not always on Channel 1. Mustangs and Miata Cups at Road America.

why so much at Watkins, its not a free track.

I think its popular in real life since Grand Am racing series hits it twice in its schedule and I've seen Indy cars compete on it. In iRacing, I believe it's the most popular track due to the Oval-like nature. Many perceive it's a very easy track. Myself? I think it's one of the hardest due to all the wrecks you have to dodge.

**********PLEASE NOTE******
These views are mine alone and I know people will disagree with some.

Also keep in mind, the following WILL NOT apply to 1. casual racers 2. Huttu no.1 wannabies. The following style best applies to people who take racing semi-seriously. If you’re a casual race – just go race and ignore my post, if you strive to be a champion, the following will not help as I am not that good.
****************************
1. Caring about irating does help because it makes you practice more. I find myself practising for X days and racing only once or twice depending on the finish. If my testing goes well, I race quite a bit, if I can’t nail down the track well, I will totally skip a race. iRating stops me from doing stupid things. Not caring I find that I would do stupid things as I didn’t “care” and soon enough you will turn into one of those people that ruin other peoples races. If everyone cared for their SR and iRating, I personally believe races will be better quality.

2. the turning point for me was when i learnt to drive incident free laps and not trying to beat or achieve PB every lap, this worked wonders. I normally say my aim is to be PB +1 second. I did this at suzuka. despite being 5th, i had no incidents and came in first. Trying to achieve or break your PB every lap makes you incident prone.

3. just give way. Rather then seeing a guy in my mirror, i just give way to them. avoids rear ends, and it takes pressure off me. i drive best when no one is near me, i can hit great lap times. i suck when being chased, this should improve over time as I get better.

4. Qualify, qualify, qualify. I find it avoids more rear ends and mid pack crashes. I tend to find people who qualify care more for races and will take care in avoiding a crash with you. Mid pack or people at the back I find are more casual and tend to go all out. Also I find they are more aggressive as they “need to” make up 10 positions before getting first.

5. Always aim for top half finish. Over time your irating will improve. Don’t aim for no.1 – this also helps avoid pressure.

6. Skip races if your not good at the track. It’s not life or death. It’s not end of the world. Go do something else if you don’t want to waste money. Practice sessions with other people are just as good. Use the ghost sessions if you really must race. If you can’t do a track and do a race, I find that not only it kills your ratings, it also kills other peoples races.

7. spend time studying. This involves looking at iRacing forums for replays, setups for the week.

8. Know your timezone, know your lifestyle. I live in Australia and that means I can’t race in ~70% of the series out there. Due to my lifestyle of full time work and family commitments, I can’t race in another ~10% so I am very limited in my choices. For the series and timeframes I can race in, I have created spreadsheets to help me analyse and give me what I call “SOF advantage”. Basically I aim to be the highest ranked irating in my race. Why? 1. It means my qualifying time should give me pole or near pole (see above point 4), it also gives me better chance of winning as I am “the most skilled in that group according to iRating”. I have done this so often that I know the “optimal” times to race to give me the best chance of winning.

9. Keep track of your emotions. I always like to end a week on a high. This means if I win, or get a few races with decent results, I like to stop early and not get greedy with iRating. Gives me a good mood for next week. I am sure you have all experienced the “winning a race” and coming last in the next race and that was end of the week – quite a crap feeling isn’t it?

10. time trails is one of the best ways to know if your ready for a track. Why? It forces you to 1. incur no incidents 2. get a good race time. You can then compare your time with other racers to get a good idea of how you will run in an actual race. Time trail results can also be compared to series results to see how you will “theoretically” place in the race. I like to use time trails average lap +1/2seconds = theoretical race result. Don’t use your actual time trail as your race average because with traffic, pressure etc you won’t always hit those times.

Good luck, hope you had a good season.

I think this was a good post btw. Point #3 is something I don't do and I have been getting rear ended. I thrive on close races. But it is highly risky. There's been times tho I clearly 'indicated' to the other driver I was giving them the line. But perhaps that was just in my own mind. Seems like my best defense is to stay ahead of the bad element lol.

Good post I will think on #3 some more.

Just to give you guys a heads up. You can now upload your Cadillac paint schemes to trading paints. I just uploaded mine a little bit ago. Just me and one other guys' up there right now :).

This^. I am so sick of running the Legends races clean, only to end up in the pits due to some numb nut taking me out. Fighting for 4th place and someone pulling an idiotic move just kills my SR. It is such a shame to be taking out like that.
Damn near done with them legends at this point. Especially if all they do is harm my IR and SR.

My advice with the Legends? Start from the pits! Top 5 finish every time guaranteed! 0 incidents and +iRating every time!
The first lap is always a massive pile up going into T1, so by the time you are there the idiots are arrested on the pits or have quit already, then comes the idiotic moves and pretty soon you'll find yourself on the top 5 with no SR hits and big iR gains because you've made so many spots!

Woot got to C class in ovals today! man the 2009 impala is very difficult to drive. to bad it is getting the ntm and i doubt i will drive it again. OFF TO IRL!

Point 3 will depend on different people. I think if you just want to have a good race and not care about irating don't worry about it. :)

For me it depends on how they caught me. If I made a mistake and thats how they caught me Im going to race for the spot. If they caught me because there faster than me Ill move over in the straight.

yeap, pretty much spot on there. 👍

On a side note, I really think in the long run I want to do 0 mistakes. Most races are only 30 mins that I join and to be honest, I shouldn't be making a mistake in 30 mins, top drivers like F1 don't do this and neither should I. I think if I can cut down any sort of mistake to 0 and keep ok lap times = win. This is what I have found so far. Looking at my history and all 0 incident races = a win. :)
