Yeah I feel ya it's going to get ever harder to win if the guys on pole position will never spin out. Guess I will just have to get faster than them :cool:

@Swifty, for the cleanest race experience what I do is make sure I qualify upfront. Also, what I do now is run dual screens (soon will go triple in bout a month). So I try to guide my opponent to my right so I can watch'em close. If I think they gonna try to divebomb I block their attempts straight up. Basically I just drive for myself 100%. I punch it hard as I can to get to T1 and let all the wreckers explode during Lap 1.

If you qualify less than bout 4th place you in a high position to get nailed. If you do not race in your split you can get nailed hard from the rear.

Okay about the 2 feet magic save move! I really could care less that it exists. But what pisses me off MAJOR is no one ever ever ever told me about it. No one here. Never saw a mention at iRacing forums....

Yet- I am pretty sure a huge majority of people are doing it. Thats really unfair to us not-naturally--gifted guys out there working our butts off to compete

I'm spectating this super fast dude driving a Star Mazda right now @ pole and guess what? He's using that 2fms move like no tomorrow....

I've just used it in my last 2 road races to save myself over & over. My SR is climbing nicely and almost won a race. WhY??? Cause now I can run a super loose super fast setup. If I loose it who cares I mash both feet down and save myself 100%

I've known about it since I started sim racing with Grand Prix Legends back in like 1998. I used it then, and I've even used it occasionally in games like rFactor, but iRacing has taken it to another level.

Why did I not share this knowledge with everyone? Because people don't need to know it, iRacing needs to fix it. It's true that even in real race cars it is useful to some extent, but only to save minor slides, it doesn't work anywhere near as well as it does in iRacing. No matter how many people try to argue that it's realistic and belongs in iRacing, it doesn't. You'll notice 90% of the Pro's and DWC field will say they want it left alone, because they can't do nearly as well without it.

I will say this though, you can't save a slide in the correct way in iRacing like you can in real life, using counter-steer, so right now it is the only decent way to save a slide. Countersteering works to some extent in iRacing, just not well enough.

I've known about it and chose not to use it because of how unrealistic it is, I was hoping it would be kept quiet, but Ben Cornett let the cat out of the bag so to speak. He's one of the only DWC guys I know of who actually wants it fixed, but I wish he would have kept it to their private forum. Now every noob and his grandmother knows about it. So if I'm tailing someone closely and they start to lose the rear, instead of watching them slide into the wall, now I have to do an emergency maneuver to not rear-end them.

I chose not to share it for the same reason that 99% of people who knew about it chose not to share it.....FIGHT CLUB. Same thing with certain macros, they just don't need to be widely known to the general sim racing populace.
 
Ben Cornett made a thread about it that got absolutely HUGE a few weeks ago, it even made several sim racing news websites. It's spreading into the other forums and soon everyone will know about it.

I root for Ben in the DWC races, but he screwed up big time with this one. But maybe letting everyone know about it will get iRacing to fix it more quickly, I doubt it though.

It's almost 30 pages though, so you'll have to search through it as I don't remember exactly who posted or when.

I don't think they are going to do anything about it though, because I don't think it's a simple fix, I think it's a side effect of the way the physics engine and tire model are coded.

One thing I do see at least minimizing is to QUICKLY implement REAL TIRE WEAR and FLATSPOTTING. This would at least stop people from abusing it, because the tire would flatspot badly, this would also discourage late braking heroes as well. How long until this is implemented? As the iRacing staff always says "soon." So probably sometime in 2014.

As far as this rear ending business goes I get pissed off as much as the other guy, my incident rate is very high and I would estimate 2/3's is from other drivers. I think I am at fault as much for putting myself in a position to be taken out, a rear-ender though leaves you no escape.

The last race at Slime rock I moved over to let a train of 4 cars go by, I put 2 tires on the grass and I was a goner. So I sat waiting for 4 more cars to go by, 1,2,3 .. 4 lost it into a side way smash into my Caddy. Then the old Meatball flag rolled off my plate and the infamous DQ'ed flag finished my day. Tried to be nice and I screwed myself. No more mr nice guy.

So, I decided to do a little more testing with the mustang, I am starting to like it again, it's still a totally different car but the baseline wasn't cutting it, neither was some guy's Okayama setup (which was mediocre, better than baseline). I pretty much put a similar setup to the recent Caddy setup that I modified from Eric's setup and have made it a baseline, so now the car is a lot stiffer now. the only problem is that there isn't much room to adjust from there. another plus is that the 2 foot trick doesn't work (at least not well, in fact just brake + counter-steer actually is a little easier). I am concerned though, in how realistic it really is, with such drastic changes, I am wondering which tire model was most realistic in drive-ability, not mathematically, since I don't race the FR500S IRL :boggled:

Yes, I believe the 2FSHM is well known by most iRacers. I have been a member for one year and read posts about it last summer.

My word, what a terrible race! 99% of my incidents of them are solo with a few being getting smacked by other pilots (dropping a wheel off the track, hitting a barrier). I am extremely cautious when driving around other pilots. I always keep in my mind that I do not want to ruin another person's race.
 
Well, 2FMSH does come up from time to time, but it's normally a very quick mention, and I don't think most newer people have picked up on it. But now that we have a 30pg thread on it and made the news, I'm sure most people know about it now.
 
Did a mustang race, and I was doing pretty good having very limited experience with the NTM on the mustang and Zandvoort, I was running pretty good until some bonehead hit me on apex of the first left hander of the 2nd half of the track and got put back to 21st and I made it back to 18th, the guys in the back were mainly guys who had been taken out and we were gaining on the mid pack. In general, it was a good race
 
If I did left foot braking I'd use this brake and gas save, but I use the right foot for braking.
 
I had some interesting races over weekend, but there are some very impatient guys.

Street stock its always a waiting game but some guys like forcing the issue. I wish inside guys knew how to learn to hold their line, they never let up and end up sliding up into you while say it's your fault.

One race had a super clean bump and run though, just enough to wiggle the guy out of the groove. We were all pretty amazed!
 
I don't know what your iRating is, but if you can get out of the bottom split, racing gets a little better at least. I was in the second to bottom split in a race last night and we only had one decent crash the whole race and even that crash only took out one guy I think.

The race where I had boneheads was actually 2nd split but there is always that guy in some races. I need to get back to late models but I haven't bought most of tracks so I have to wait.

I had never ran this track in this car before, just decided to jump in a race, so I started from the pits and finished 2nd only down by 0.3secs. Granted, the attrition rate was HUGE, the final 10 laps or so was a battle between the us in the top 3, and one guy 20-something laps down.

I think even if most people hadn't crashed out I still would have finished top 3. I had the fastest lap of the race (my first ever for anything besides rookie races) and was working my way through the field after the first couple cautions once I got used to the line on the track.

I'm happy, just thought I would share. I always like reading the positive stories from other people on here more than the complaints. Share your triumphs! Even if it's starting from 15th and finishing 14th, that's still a win!
 
Is there a way to make the voice in iSpeed louder? I can't hardly understand anything over my CTS-VR. It uses Windows Text-to-Speech for the audio output but that doesn't have any volume settings. It looks like the only solution is to turn down the iRacing volume in the mixer?

Yeah, that will run single screen just fine with good detail levels. But if you are going to go for triple screens later on you will have to replace the video card and might want to switch from the i3 to an i5-2500.

Like basically every PC posted on here, that's a lower end graphics card. And I think only a dual-core CPU? Quad core seems to work a lot better, two cores handle iRacing and the others can take care of any OS needs.
 
It is a lower end graphics card, and iRacing doesn't really take that much advantage of a quad core cpu anyways. Just turn off things like Windows Aero and don't run any background programs and he should do very well. Despite that people love to see 200fps+, you really don't need that much. If you can maintain a steady 45-60fps everywhere you'll be perfectly fine.



This guy is running an older lower spec system with that same graphics card. He's running options like crowds, which you really don't need and he appears to be maintaining between 70-85fps at Lime Rock. With the extra processing power I think you should see 85-100 in the same situation.
 
Quad core

Don't think I really need quad core but anyway heres a more less expensive example.
