What headsets do you guys recommend for iRacing? I'm trying to find something that isn't designed for blocking out all outside noise...apparently that's not a huge goal for most people.

Yeah, it will. I think I'm gonna go that route and find a good bluetooth dongle. I have onboard bluetooth but its awful, only has a range of maybe 3ft from the motherboard.

Just bought a $12 Asus BT dongle from Amazon with free 2-day shipping. Says it has a range of 100 meters and some reviewers at Newegg said it worked through multiple walls.

I'm probably going to order myself a T500 and TH8 from amazon, I might as well get a cheap headset while I'm at it, preferably something that's purely for chat and I can still hear audio from my tv instead of the headset

Edit: Eric that actually looks pretty good, and that works with the original PS3 bluetooth earpiece?

Eric.

I've had a few people scare the crap out of me while I was racing because I didn't hear them til they were in my line of site.

Not sure what you mean. Is it the official PS3 BT headset? If so, I am not sure if its made to only pair with a PS3. I've got at least two BT headsets around here. One I had paired with the onboard bluetooth and ready to work, but it had a lot of static and disconnected seconds later while in my chair.

Kinds cheap, but does a PS3 bluetooth headset work? I haven't tried mine with iRacing yet

It kinda works. I have the sony bluetooth ps3 headset, but I couldn't get it to work right on iracing. I got a usb bluetooth adapter from best buy and installed the software and drivers. I got on iracing and got it changed to the bluetooth in the settings, but it never worked right. I could hear people talking, but when people won't talking it made a static like noise constant. Not only that, but no one could hear me either. Got into a room with some friends and I could hear them outside the static, but they couldn't ever hear me at all. I uninstalled and reinstalled everything several times and it said it was working when I was in in the driver settings, but a no go on iracing.I even went back and tried it on the ps3 and it worked fine on it.

I ended up taking the bluetooth adapter back and getting a $20 wired ps3 headset. One of the half style ones with just 1 ear piece and a mic. It works great only downside would be the usb cord, but it's really long so it doesn't bother me.

You probably didn't configure it correctly within Windows as a microphone and as a playback device.

Pretty sure I did, but I don't know. When I talked into it the bars on the screen moved up and when I played something with sound it came through the bluetooth ear piece. It made the static noise the whole time anyway and I don't know what would cause that. It could be because it's the sony ps3 one like you said could be something you can only pair with the ps3. Maybe a different kind of bluetooth would work.

Mine made static and then disconnected seconds later, so maybe poor signal quality. I will find out in two days, and if it doesn't work I'll go pick up the wired PS3 one. I think a mic will be useful for the 120 Minutes of Thunder.

Hmmm, I've had trouble with mine in the past when I had trouble hearing people in BC2 (PS3) I'll take another look at my computer specs and see if I can pair it another day, I'm not sure if I can deal with another wire  My laptop sits on the same cheap computer desk that my wheel sits on and there are wires everywhere, and we'll see if it'll fit on there anymore when I get a T500

Yeah I was right by my computer just a couple feet away so who knows what was going on with mine. It don't matter much to me the wired one is fine. I got it just a month or so after getting into iracing. I always used a mic on ps3 so had to have it on iracing. I do right much oval racing and also league stuff with teammates so it's very important to have one and also teamspeak.

I'm curious if I'm one of few who drive barefoot most races? I see guys wearing shoes but I don't feel the connection when I wear them.

What series do you suggest for D-Licence road and oval?

For road I would say the skip barber since it has the most participation usually. A lot of the guys here race the skip often, but me personally I didn't really care for it too much or the Mustang for that matter so I just did my 4 skip races and moved onto the star mazda.

For oval I would say the late model if you like racing on short tracks and the national car if you want to race on both short and a bit bigger 1 and 1.5 mile tracks. When you get the national car you also get the class b cot car as well so 2 cars for the price of one. On the late model it's open setups, but they are not hard to setup. The national car has fixed setups, but the car is harder to drive than the late model. The late model probably has a bit more participation. The late model is one of my favorite cars in the whole service so that's what I would suggest.

I also drive barefoot. I see a lot of people talking about driving with shoes and all these different sim shoe companies, but I've never felt right driving with shoes on either. I guess we are of the few that do drive barefoot .

I always just use my socks. Tried my real life racing shoes and it felt really weird to me.

Depends on what pedals you have. With my old G25 I went barefoot. With my CSR-Elites I wear socks. But with my CST F1's I couldn't last more than a few laps without my feet hurting, so I always wore thin soled Puma driving shoes.

I have the cheap DFGT pedals, and granted the angle they are at for me sometimes causes issues.

quick question on multiclass racing (mc)...

I was able to grab a win in my MX5 class for the iRNC at Charlotte. However, I see that the win is not recorded in my overall stats. I assume you have to win the overall mc race in order to have a win recorded? that is cool, but then, for example, IIUC a FGT could never record a win, baring a mostly unlikely and extreme race, in in PGC racing?

thanks...and I will RTFM tonight! :dunce:

As far as I know the win should be recorded per class. However, the win may not have been recorded if you didn't have enough MX-5's (I think minimum is 5 or 6 in multiclass but I might be mistaken).

I still get all of my wins recorded when there is only 2 or 3 Ford GT's in my class. So, I don't think that theory is correct.

I think it should correct. How long ago was the win? Occasionally it takes the iRacing site an hour or so to update.

D'oh! Yes, I just checked my stats and the service eventually did record the win. :dunce:

I ran the 8:30pm local race and I checked my stats at ~11:30pm local and the win was not recorded. For some reason it took 3+ hours to update my records? I rarely win a race and I assumed a win would be promptly recorded like my iRating or SR.
Thanks for the help.

No problem.

Not to brag but, I have something like a 80% or higher win rate this year :o

So i downloaded iracing last night and played it a lot today. Its so hard for me to be consistent, ive been doing the mazda race at limerock and i can qualify top 3 usually but come race time i always go off and spend too much time in the pits lol. I havent completed a race yet on the lead lap :(

Slow down and stop trying to win and instead finish on the lead lap. If there's a good gap behind you, don't drive at 100% until you can drive at 100% for 20 laps.

My advice period is just don't worry about winning or being the fastest. I know it's hard to not worry about that thought because I still have issues. The rookie cars actually seem harder to drive to me for some reason

I know it's boring but test mode and Practice are your best friends in your first month, but I'm not saying don't race though, just race when you feel comfortable with the track/ car combo, and time trial is an excellent tool when you become a little more consistent

And Eric, you ordered the BT211 right? Do you mind posting whether or not the PS3 headset works or not when it arrives?
