Yeah i guess i get carried away with trying to be the fastest at all times. Mostly im messing up on braking, its so different than GT you cant just slam on the pedal. Plus you cant turn in while braking, not much anyway, just bad habits from playing GT i guess. Anyway i did manage to win my first race, i had a good 10 second lead with 5 to go, so i eased up to make sure i didnt make any mistakes. That one guy was coming though!

And Eric, you ordered the BT211 right? Do you mind posting whether or not the PS3 headset works or not when it arrives?

Sure. I think it'll be here tomorrow actually. And I don't have the official PS3 headset, just a Jabra and some Altec-Lansing stereo earbuds w/mic.

No prob, I'm probably going to order a T500, Th8rs, and the BT211 on friday, if you like it. (No rush, you aren't the reason why I'm not ordering til friday). I plugged my BT in via USB and my computer didn't even know it was there. I might get another headset too maybe, I'm not sure at this point.

I know the game says to only bring the Brake force curve factor down to 0 if you use a loadcell pedal, but even with DFGT pedals I like it around .15 to 1.25 depending on the car so I get more pedal travel before lockup. That has to help a little, but still don't slam it, GT5 was like lighting firecrackers, whereas iRacing is like calculating something for a NASA rocket...... Maybe not so drastic but you get the point

Decided I'm going to actually start practicing for series and limit myself to a few each week.

Going to do the Radical, Lotus 79, and Indy Fixed Oval/Road. Might mix in some GT Challenge here and there too.

Also, am I the only person in the world who thinks the V8 Supercar is absolutely terrible? I understand that they are saying it handles very realistically, but it doesn't feel like a racing car at all. It feels like the drift cars that I've ridden along in for track days. They just understeer forever unless you break the back end loose. I can see how it would be fun, but I don't enjoy drifting, not even a little bit. Backing into a corner is one thing, but it seems to me I have to steer this car more with the gas pedal than the steering wheel.

Granted, I've only been messing with the fixed setups, but I've tried it five or six times at different tracks and I can't even force myself to like it.

Seems strange because I hear so much positive stuff about it on the iRacing forums and here. Guess it's just not my style.

HELP having took the plunge and downloaded IRACING.
have done all the calibration .
i thought i would do a little testing so got a car and track downloaded ready to test ,hit the test car button and it just gave me a blank screen .

what am i doing wrong

HELP PLEASE!!! :banghead:

How do you feel about the Mustang? People have said the Mustang and Supercar are similar. I've never used the V8.

I've found the mustang is easier to drive with the new tire model and the v8 supercar far far more difficult than it ever was. Although I am sure I'd get used to it over time. Right now I'm thinking of racing the mustang this week as it's an easy track to drive it on.

Have you tried again? I don't know what would cause that other than wrong display settings in the Control Panel

I think the mustang is harder to drive but It took some getting used to and a decent setup. The baseline has waaaaayyy too much rear grip, so I made my setup really stiff and I like it better now.
On the OTM anybody could hold a slide around any corner, and that's how you got it to turn, Now you actually have to slow down and turn the thing

Today has been rough for me, either i over cook the first turn on lap 1 (because i forget cold tires), or someone hits me when im leading. Im getting real close to breaking in to the 59's at limerock with the mazda cup car though.

So how does it all work anyway, how do i move up to a different license and all that? My safety rating nose dived to 2.1 yesterday but ive got it back up to 2.6 now. Is there any special event i need to be doing to get "promoted" so to speak? For now ive just been doing those hourly races that are 20 laps.

If your race is clean (no incidents, no matter where you finish) then SR goes up, there is a limit to how many incidents you can have before it goes down and it gets harder the higher class you are. Once your SR goes above 3.0 you can wait for Rookie promotion day (end of each month) or get it above 4.0 to get to class D. You can fast-track from Class D to Class C by completing the Class D MPR by the end of the season (by doing the Gran Touring Cup), but don't expect to do very well in Class C at first, It's a lot tougher on SR. SR is measured by CPI (Corners Per Incident)

You definitely don't wanna miss this one:

All you're gonna need is the track since you already have the Cadillac. Participation is gonna be huge and they got some pretty cool prices! I'm going with the DP, but a lot of the guys here are going with the Caddy. I got a pretty good setup for Watkins if you need it!

I have to disagree, I find the V8 a challenge however with practice it is fairly controllable. It's like any car in the sim though, they all need getting use to. The sliding actually helps to get use to throttle control.

They're both garbage. Easily the worst tin tops in the sim.

Agreed.

Neither of them feel like race cars to me, they feel like muscle cars fitted with economy tires.

MX-5 feels more like a race car than either of those two.

Funny that a lot of people think the Mustang feels the most like a car compared to anything else now.

I raced the Mustang twice today, brilliant fun. It's actually a challenge compared to the Mazda which seems to be fitted to the track with train tracks or something. But in saying its a challenge, its not all that difficult and is quite pleasant to drive. I likey, especially with these weeks track selection for it.

I've also been trying to get out of rookie oval racing for the past few days, it's fairly so so as to whether or not you get a clean race. I am at 2.90 now and might just wait it out for the rookie promotions once I hit 3.0.

The V8 is so setup dependent it's not even funny. It used to be good in that Madison Down had multiple setup packs out, so you had several seasons of proven setups from a series winner.

Now there's nothing. Everyone's taking it so seriously that us scrubs down the bottom have to develop our own sets from scratch. And it takes serious amounts of time and experience. It's sort of disappointing in a way, it's a great car but it's not drivable without a good set.

In a way it's a shame the community aspect has left with the NTM. It's everyone's right to keep their tech for themselves, but it does mean that people like me who need to spend all week practising just to stay safe in the race choose not to instead. I'm not going to be the one to end someone's race with a stupid move because I spent all week tuning instead of learning how to be safe like I should.

Yeah, I would still share my setups if I still made them from scratch by myself but a lot of the setups I use now are worked on by about 5-6 people so I don't want to share their work without their permission.

If you want a setup each week I can give you what i'm running in private as long as it doesn't get around to other top teams.

But I do get what you mean by the community feel it has been lost for a long time now though, even my setups in the past I shared at the end of each season when they were practically useless....

Also, the setups i've been running this season mostly people think they're too hard/knife edge to drive with the low caster we've been running but happy to give you one to use. However, haven't started driving at Suzuka this week so don't have one there yet.

Seems strange. Normally it goes blank for a second or two and then a splash screen of the track appears and it shows 'Loading'.

I suggest you contact iRacing support - although I haven't used them myself I hear they are usually very helpful.

Just hit the 3.0 mark for oval rookie racing, after over a year of iRacing :p.

I was so close to winning, lost it on the last corner:

EDIT: Damnit, why did imageshack ever have to become incompatible. Here's the link to the photo instead.

If any of you guys haven't tried Motion Cockpit View yet, check out the big thread in the iRacing Forums. It's a free plugin that offers TrackIR-like head movement reacting to g-forces, bumps, look to apex, etc.

I only have the motion stuff on very low intensity, so it's not really noticeable, but the best reason I can think of to use is for the built in seat adjustments. You can maintain your FOV but move your seat slightly forward, back, up, down, left, and right. This combined with the normal iRacing adjustments (FOV and view angle) lets you see mirrors and gauges while still being able to see out of the front perfectly. Even on widescreen monitors where you lose some of the screen height.

Highly recommended, been using it for a while, but don't think I've ever seen it mentioned here.

Who all is running the Race this Saturday? Sounds of Thunder 120 or whatever the name is.

I'm currently planning on running the DP. Have layed down a 1:37.305 lap time. Hopefully that puts me in the second split. Don't know yet if I want to wake up at 7Am to run this race though :D

Im in running the caddy. So far I cant get below mid 1:47s. Its like I hit a wall and just cant get past it. Even tried some different setups, but makes no diffrence just cant get around there any faster.

I've been wondering about something the past couple weeks so I figured here would be a good place to ask this.

On average how many official or even league races do you guys get to race in a week?

Depending on the week I can usually get in maybe 3 or 4 official races. The most I think I've done is about 4 in a day on a couple of occasions. I have more time to race during the winter months than in the summer so I haven't been able to race as much lately. Last night was my first official race in about 3 weeks, but I've done a couple hosted races with friends in the last week or so. The reason I ask this is because I'm coming across more and more people these last few weeks that do a whole lot of official races in a single day. I'm talking 6+ races a day, everyday for some people. It might be just me, but that is just insane I think lol.

I saw a guy's name come across the ticker the other day for most oval drivers points scored in 24HR. It's a guy that raced in the oval league I'm starting back racing in so I know him. I believe he has set a record for official races in one day . He did 25 official races in 1 day/24hr period! I'm not sure how you can even do that I guess no sleep. A lot of them were rookie street stock races which it seems he does a lot of now to gain irating since he is about 5000 irating now. It just kinda blew me away especially when you look at his past 7 days and he was doing 6+ races day leading up to that. I came across a random oval pro and he had done 8 races that day and the day before with the rest of the week averaging 5 races a day.

I just don't see how these guys can do so many races. I'm just wondering if this is normal for most or not. I wouldn't think so. Just makes it hard for "regular" people to be able to compete. It seems I'm starting to find myself up against guys like this more regularly now. I'm making more upper and top splits now since my irating has increased some and the top guys most of the time just race that car, which is fine, but they are doing 3-4 races day in that car where is I'm doing a race or two a week. This is what I love/hate about sim racing is that you can just turn on your pc or console and race all the time. I like it because I've raced a lot of different things in real life and usually you can only get to the track once a week and that's if you can afford to race every week, but you can sim race whenever you want as much as you want if you just have the time which is great. Don't have to pay to get to the track or fuel and tires. I say I hate it as well because people that have the most time will usually be the most competitive for wins. Like I said with some guys in iracing doing so many races in a week it's hard for a regular guy to have a chance of winning some races. What do you guys think?

^ that would make an interesting poll, maybe you should create a thread with a poll, I typically do 3-5 races a week depending on the tracks if I like them, but I spend most of my time testing.

Also, regarding the Mustang/V8, some of us should bump the iRacing car reviews thread we have with your reviews of them

I usually do two or three races per week. One private league, one Dallara open and one Dallara fixed. I can race a lot more during the summer because my work shift changes.
