Ok guys! I'll be hosting an ALMS race tonight! All welcome!

LimerockBanner_B.jpg

I'd love to join, I barely make the minimum requirements... Class C 2.16 lol, but that's right around dinner time here so I most likely won't make it. I caught a couple laps of the real race on TV a few mins ago and I got to see a few laps of the CTSVR on a different channel as it took the lead from a porsche.

P.S. I don't know about the Ruf but I doubt it'll be this year probably 2013 S1 or S2 would be my guess

Yup, make the regulations so I can't race. :grumpy: *Middlefinger*
Sure hope this isn't hosted by you, Jav.

;)

What race were you watching? There's no CTS-VRs in ALMS.

Jav
What about the Ruf? I thought it was coming out for S3, haven't seen anything about it so I'm assuming it won't be ready...

That's the unit I am most looking to, the McLaren as well.

there were 2 races on 2 different channels, one was ALMS at LRP and the other I had no idea what track because I watched for about a minute all I saw was a Porsche get loose and a CTS-VR take the lead (sorry I wasn't clear on that, I see how you got that from my sentence )

Jav
We could it again next week

Edit: Changed the requirements to D 3.0 and up!
oh I was thinking there was a different track next week

If it was actually a CTS-VR, I think it would have to be Pirelli World Challenge. There's also just a CTS-V racecar, which is different.

it was the CTS-VR, same Team Cadillac paint scheme and they even did a mini story of Team Cadillac

no idea, it could have been a rerun for all I know

edit: just ran my first mustang race of the week (Oulton) and once again for the past 4 or 5 weeks I've been put in an SOF considerably higher than me. out of 19 people 3 had a lower iRating than me and 2 of those 3 disconnected, I finished as the last car to even finish because I was the 2nd to slowest car to qualify which put me dead center of the field!! so I got put in the grass trying to keep it clean under passing twice and I pitted twice so I was 2 laps down. with 2 laps to go I touched the grass on the 4th gear corner before the hairpin and I had nowhere to go but the tires at 80 MPH so from 4th gear I popped it in reverse to spin and I hit the rear instead of the front and drove the last 2 laps with the wheel centered at about 80 degrees to the left. on the plus side I only lost .07 SR. after hitting 2 walls, 2 spins 2 cars and about 8 off tracks:guilty::yuck:

Edit 2: my second race went better for me and not so much for the majority of the others, the 1st place guy had to slow down to stay behind the pace car which caused a chain reaction and the 5th place guy was in 4th gear and caused a massive accidental chain reaction brake check because the guy behind him was too close. it took out about 7-9 people. and since nobody qualified I started 4th out of 5 qualifiers with my 1:43.5xx and again I got put in the grass twice by a car passing me the first time and a guy that was slow but trying to race me in that same corner (turn 3). the second one made me lose 10 seconds and I made it up at the end from 11th to 15th back to 10th and 3 seconds behind and gaining fast on 9th and gained .09 SR

TURN 3 IS THE WORST PLACE TO PASS! for you and the other person too

Just graduated to class D, woohoo. Had a string of good races, two of which i lead all 25 laps and almost no incident points. I gained .54 SR points my last race, i guess you get that with close racing the whole way? I had a guy on my ass the whole race but he never could pass me.

I think that I may skip this weeks Proto & GT challenge. No matter how much I drive this weeks track, (forgot the name) I just never feel comfortable enough to run consistent laps. I may jump in one of ***** and giggles. But, other than that, probably not.

Nice:tup: what are you going to run for Class D?

Probably the multi class race with the pontiac, mazda and vw. Mostly because i dont have the mustang or the skip barber car. I have to read up on the irating and ttrating because i have no clue how they're calculated.

I don't know how they are exactly calculated either, basically the higher the SOF the more points you get if you place well, and the lower the SOF the more points you lose if you do bad. I just race one Race at a time and worry more about my SR since that decides whether or not I get to race the GT next season that I paid for

Sweet! That's probably the best route if you're not interested on the Mustang.

iRating is SOF dependant, while Safety Rating is a calculation of how many corners you go trough with no incident and completely independent of performance.

TTRating is calculated by witchcraft, magic, and pixie faries.

One of the many reasons that TT's are completely stupid and just need to be dropped completely.

Yeah i was just reading about them, time trials? Who cares about time trials? I wanna race people, lol.

I use them from time to time to see if I'm ready to race. My focus is different for whatever reason in practice vs race. And If you're really tight on the border and you want to gain about .04 SR without risking it against others or defend your license then it isn't bad.

I've used TTs to repair the SR damage done by the HPD loonies! That's pretty much the main use for the TTs.

Time trials are a perfect step in your week of practise. Day 1, open practise: learn the car and course. Day 2, time trial: learn to be consistent and get a feel for driving with SR penalties hanging over your head. Day 3, qualify. Day 4-7, race, win. :)

For some people, time trial may feel just like practise. For me, I always know in the back of my mind that it doesn't really matter in practise. I always push a little bit harder than I should, and never settle into a consistent rhythm. In practise it feels more like a race without other cars, so it's great for finding the rhythm that you need to be consistent and error free for 15+ laps.

I still think iRacing isn't about being fast. 90% of the time, finishing a race without incidents puts you in the top 5.

I only do time trials if I'm trying to bump up my SR a little, like Jav said.

If I am going to be serious about a race, like I was with the Lotus 79 this week, I run test sessions for the first day, just long enough to get comfortable with the track layout. Then the rest of the week is open practice, and then I wait until the SOF race comes up, and then I crash. :( LOL, well the crashing part doesn't always happen, but it did this week.

Open practice is key for me, because in TT's you are still by yourself. I run side by side with people running a similar pace in open practice, this allows me to prepare myself for how side by side racing is conducted through each corner, proper passing zones, and where to get a run on people.

It's true that you don't have to be fast to finish well, just because of attrition, even in the upper series. I was running a good 2.5 seconds slower than the leaders but I was maintaining 5th place just by being moderately quick and consistent. The Lotus with the OTM and it's downforce dependent twitchy nature shot me off the track in one corner and finished my race, but had I not made that mistake, I likely would have had a top 5 just by being consistent and safe.

I think I've only tried TT once.

But I guess TT with the Street Stock at Charlotte should be a good way of getting your SR up.

Yeah speaking of SR, its near impossible to raise it on the oval side when you're running laps around USA international. Every race is like a demolition derby, people are spinning around everywhere and its so hard to avoid them especially when they turn into you.

Yah I had a crash today, had to retire :D

Start from the pits on the oval rookie classes! Podium every single time guaranteed! I got out of rookie with a decent iR using this tactic in about 8-9 races!
