Who here has tried the Mustang since the update? It's horrid. And No setup works, everyone is using the baseline except me using Dan Rasch's S2 Road Atlanta setup. I joined a hosted practice and on my first lap I ran a 1:47 (the forum says a 1:40 is average but competitive, aliens are in the 1:38 at laguna seca. That brought me straight up to 5th from last (9th) and a 1:44 (with a bobble and a Lighning McQueen move thru the grass.... Er.... dirt) brought me up to 2nd lol I stopped when I hit a 1:43 but then 4 other guys showed up late with a 1:40. Everyone has to slow to almost a stop to make a decent corner now, I've made a few adjustments but it's still strange to drive. Suddenly the V8 Supercar doesn't look like such a bad idea but those guys are superfast and have to have absurd amounts of throttle control and speed conception.......

I had a quick go trying the FFB updates, simply because it's the car I'm most familiar with. I didn't notice much different, or if I did I probably wrote it off to the FFB feel. I'll have another go later.

Lol you are in for a HUGE surprise if you decide to drive it

I don't know, I used to race the Mustang a lot! in fact my first Mixed Class racing experience was in the Mustang in Grand Am at Limerock! But somehow I just don't feel the urge to drive it anymore...

Racing in legends last night I over heard some Aussie's comparing V8's to legends. They said they drive similar as far as have to be smooth with throttle and steering input. It makes me really want to work on road side to get up to that class even though I really suck at road racing.

It's similar in a way, Nose heavy, live axle, high power to weight ratio, but the V8 is a Pig when you try to coast through the corners, the legend... Kind of. So in a way it's similar but there's just that huge weight difference and something that I can't put my finger on that really makes it strange to compare the two but both are cool, maybe if I tried another track other than Indy with it  I could understand it better, even in 4th and 5th gear in the V8 all I have to do is turn the wheel and it's a massive slide (I am by no means an expert either though  ). They are so similar yet so different it's weird.

Road racing is a matter of time and you'll get it down. I crossed over from oval too. If you are willing to put a week or 2 of practice on 1 track and 1 car you can have the basics and from there you get better and learn as many tracks as possible. I started in S1 and with the GTC bump I was Class C by S2 and running the mustang and I spent the entire week every week practicing (obviously not 24/7) each track because they were new to me and by the weekend I'd be racing. Initially I struggled to maintain above a 2.00 but with the last 3 weeks I've gotten better. It's a matter of time

It's a whole new car, it's not even close, drifting is out of the question now it's slow in fast out, not fast in, throw it sideways to break the speed and fast out anymore. A couple guys who were really fast on the OTM quit supposedly. And with the New suspension adjustment or whatever it's kind of odd. But easy to pick up because you just slow down to speed up . And even weirder the 2 foot mash didn't work last season at all

I guess I need to practice a lot more! I just don't really like how mazda's handle or maybe its how I drive. It has to be similar to the legends as far as be smooth and stay off brakes.

I was 2.94 today, down to 2.81.. Need to get it up!

I went from 2.81 to 3.44 in one race today ! Mazda Cup car at Laguna. I started around 8th , finished 4th. I let a few of the faster guys through in the opening laps , just wanted to have a clean race. Had a few crash or quit out in front of me , then got into the groove for the rest of the race and did consistent , clean and moderate lap times. Not enough for a win but I stayed out of everyone elses dramas and was very surprised to see my rating post race. Stoked !

So...you lose rating even though you get hit?
I had an awesome race at Laguna Seca, avoiding two major collisions, and with 8 laps to go, and 10 seconds down, i caught the leader, and on the 3rd to last lap, he lost the car, and hit my rear, causing me to spin out of control, and lost my chance at first victory. But that's not my concern, my concern was that the safety rating went down.

Yes Pawel. SR is down no matter who's to blame for incident.

Its not fair i know, but it should prevent all racers from agressive driving, and causing collisions.

It was nightmare for me to gain SR in ovals. For me best way is to use Q's first and start at front of the grid. When i start in middle or end of pack i always get into crash by someone.

Sounds like a race I had, except 2nd place caught me at the top of the corkscrew and attempted to pass me by shoving me onto the grass, and I got a black flag for cutting, I caught them back up and gave them a little love tap in the final corner. I wasn't to proud of it, but I wasn't letting a dirty driver beat me.. That wasn't you was it? White car? :p

If i could figure out how to post a clip of days of thunder I would.

" rubbings racing"

Lol

So when is the next time I can move out of rookie? I didn't get my points up in time.

I believe that rookie promotions are every 4 weeks. However you can get promoted anytime by getting your sr above 4 and meeting your mpr. That's how I got my road D license.

I went from 2.81 to 3.44 in one race today !
Once you hit a whole number going up you get a 0.4 bonus (and apparently a 0.4 penalty going the other way). So you probably got 0.23 in race and 0.4 bonus.

Good way to get yourself protested against.

Eric.
Good way to get yourself protested against.

I was shoved right aside.. Like I said I wasn't proud of it, but he drove right into me, almost causing me to spin.. I'll record the replay if you want, I didn't think it was fair that I lost my spot, and got a penalty for a dirty pass by someone else..

Then protest that. Your retaliation was more out of line than his pass by the sound of it. You don't retaliate.

I'm going to call Mac K Pastor Maldonado from now on.. :sly:

This reminds me off the Spa Quali controversy..

And what will that do? I think its been discussed several times already that protesting does next to nothing.. I get hit, penalized for cutting, and no apology or anything, and somehow I'm the bad guy? Tell me how that makes sense. I would never force a pass on someone, thats dirty and not needed whatsoever, I've had a win taken from me on several occasions because of dirty and inconsiderate drivers, and it wasn't happening yet again, especially when an incident could have been avoided completely. Thats my story and I'm sticking with it.

You are still racing rookies, it's not worth it! Worry about all of that once you're at C class, for now just focus on getting yourself out of there and noot on racing for the win or there's a big chance you'll get stuck there longer than you should. An incident like the first one is more than likely gonna be dismissed as a racing incident, but retaliation is a big no no in iRacing and will get you banned for a week in no time!

Speaking of rookie..

I tried to do as many clean wk13 mazda cup races as I could today to bump up my road SR before promotions. Bad idea..

The first race was ruined thanks to the inevitable 1st lap pile up into the Andretti Hairpin and another shortly afterwards. Tried another and managed to destroy all my suspension from running slightly wide out of rainey curve. And about half an hour ago my G27 decided it wanted to re-calibrate just as I was exiting pitlane at the start.

It's not been my day today.

That's harsh, i have been lucky to avoid a lot of collisions today. Every race i was involved in, there was an incident in the first 3 corners, i was thinking that these drivers better get some practice in before jumping straight into a race.
But i've also came 2nd twice today, and 10th. A sure victory, 15 seconds ahead, with 5 laps to go, my internet disconnects. Another, i get taken out, and a third, i lost the race with 2 laps to go, as a much faster driver reeled me in, after i passed him 10 laps ago. Not too mention that same race, i t-boned another driver as he came from the opposite side of the track missing 3 cars, down the straight.

Any time. Just get your SR to 4.0 or above and you'll be auto-promoted.

You can get promoted as soon as you will get above 4.0 SR

edit : thats what above :)

thanks guys.

so above 3 I have to wait like a month, above 4 I automatically move up?

If I start from the pits, run a lap, and then park it back in the pits until the race is over will my safety level increase?

Why would you want to do that? Your SR will probably increase but since you would be last your SR will increase in very small decimals.

Running the rookie races to learn how to avoid loonies and how also not to drive like one is all part of the rookie experience.
