JAV: Any updates on how testing is going with the weight ballast experiments? If you need a session hosted let me know, I'd be happy to contribute, even though I might not be able to actually race (depends on what time you need it up).

Well I managed to get the Ford and Caddy pretty balanced at Spa, Watkinsglenn and Mosport, I need to try again at Suzuka with full ballast. The limited adjustability and the tire degradation on the Caddy might put it on a disadvantage on the long run, because the Ford is just a more composed and consistent car. We will probably use full ballast on the Ford but keep it on separate classes, we will be able to race each other but with separate championships for all 3 cars. When we finally get the McLaren it'll be a better match for the Ford GT!

Had some fantastic racing so far today, started 13th in the Caddy at Mosport (I didn't qualify) and ended up working my way up to 2nd with 3 laps to go and held off 3rd place to take 2nd overall, tough but fun race. Then a change of pace, The Inracing News Challenge in the Pontiac Solstice, started 13th overall, and worked my way up 2nd overall and in class, with first place overall and in class just in front of me. 👍

The Cadillac may be restricted to 75% fuel as it has better fuel consumption.

The Ford will run Max ballast for all of the races it will be at a slight dissadvantage at Mosport but I expect it to be very strong on the rest of the tracks.

Anyone try racing the spec racer ford? I just cant get a good feel for it, my times at watkins are 2 seconds behind the fast guys. I suppose if i knew how to tune it would help, but the car is so sensitive to everything and locks the brakes too easily.

Can someone send me a link to where you pick your series for the season? Or do you just join whatever you want whenever you want?

Also, what cars/tracks come with the rookie package? I haven't a clue and can't find anything other then '7 tracks with 15 layouts' and I think 5 cars.

^ You didn't research any of that before you purchased it? :dopey: Made it to D Class today, been having some great races. I'm doing Miata and Cadillac Cup, as well as the Inracing News Challenge.

Well, I knew I'd get what I need for rookie. But that is all I knew. Also, was half price :D Even though I could have got it free for 6 months..

Anyway, in 2-3 weeks time I'll eventually be racing :D

I mean introduction threads as in the 'Introduce Yourself!" thread on here..

Watched a lot of that series already, but it's not very off topic.

Thing is I don't know what to do first. Haven't a clue where I'm trying to go.

Also, bought the basic package. But haven't a clue what cars or tracks I have. How do you check that?

Just go to the menu cars and tracks and it will tell you.

As for introduction threads. I am pretty sure there is. Iracing has simply broken down the forums more than gtplanet. There is a thread for every car, there's even a thread based on my country. Theres also plenty of off topic forums there.

Community over there is very helpful.

I would suggest finishing watching the video series as its quite crucial and not just 'a lot of it'

Good luck.

60% brake bias. It'll lock the fronts first, but any more rearward and it starts to be a little too much oversteer for me. You want to brake a little early and be off the brakes earlier than you'd expect to carry more momentum through the turns. I think I'm using a soft or medium FARB, soft rear. Anywhere from +0/32 to 3/32 rear toe. 0 gets you a little more speed, higher gets you more stability. 0 front toe also, again for speed. I think about -2.5 front camber and -1.5 in the rear...3" front ride height, 3.5" rear ride height.

Go from there and see what you think. I think that's all the more important settings. Start with the baseline and change that stuff. I was running mid 2'15s at my best. If you can keep up and draft it should be easy to stay with the faster guys at Watkins Glen at least.

Tried doing that already but it crashed my browser. Will have a new computer in a few weeks anyway, also been taken off emergency tax and given more hours so I'll be able to get it as soon as I have the money 👍

Also, messed up a sentence in that last post: 'Watched a lot of it already, it's not very off topic'. I meant that I have watched a lot of the episodes and that the general discussion threads aren't very off topic (From my hour or so of actually browsing them.)

Suppose I just have a lot to learn.

Thanks a lot.

Cool, ill give it a try today. I was tinkering with it yesterday and got a little faster but im still not up to pace yet. Some of it may be due to my lack of experience on the track, i dont feel like i attack corners as well as i could be.

Alternatively you could try searching the web and downloading a setup. Which is where I got mine for the 120 of thunder, and doing minute changes to suit your driving style.

Ive had it...

Time to throw my laptop out the window. I started 14th and worked my way up to 5th with a chance at 4th. 1 lap to go and my screen freezes on me in mid corner! Around i go, heavy front end damage, i slip to 11th. I dont know why i even bother anymore, this happens too much.

On the bright side i did manage to run a 2:16.00 using a different setup on the SFR, although im still a second behind but its an improvement.

If you are running the SRF, check out the new iRacing forum section for that series. John B posts some very informative info and there is a link to tuning the car based on real world tuning.

The key to watkins glenn is T1. If you don't hit it right that can be up to a second lost, and if there is someone behind you, you will get passed on the long straight. I don't usually throttle brake, but it helps a lot on this turn. Slow down enough to where you can be back on the gas at or just before the apex and not go to far over the rumble strip on the exit.

If you make it through that section it will be very difficult for anyone to pass you on the rest of the track without a big mistake.

Other than that, the hardest place for newer drivers to get up to speed is the chicane. You really have to attack it and hit the line perfectly so that you don't lose control or time. This is where I have to be the most careful in practice because the slower guys go way too slow here.

I can take T1 at about 70-74mph usually, going through the S at 102mph reaching 113mph on the straight, then i take the chicane at around 86-89mph. Im not always consistent with it and still searching for the proper lines.

No clue! FCP used where?

In smuffy's name.

I always seem to think of it as Football Club Porto but I could be wrong.

Oh! Lol!!

Haha yeah

Anyway, quick question do I have too sign up for a series, if not can I sign up for one?

And if neither is possible do you just join races of your category?
